Ramsey v. Brunell...SORRY!!!!

Post by dallasisdead2004 »

Sorry to bring up this overhyped story one more time but I have a question about this situation. (apoligies if I missed it in an earlier thread)

Let's just say that the Skins do take Brunell, and P-Ram and him duke it out for the starting position. If Ramsey shows Joe that he should start, and Brunell is so concerned with being a starter, what will Brunell do when Ramsey starts?

With a sour-ass look on his face I am sure! Sorry, purely conjecture. #-o

I hate the fact that I'm still discussing this topic.

I don't know...I'm somewhat uneducated about these contracts. Do you think Brunell would try to secure a starting job in his contract? If so, this whole thing should be put to rest because it ain't gonna happen. I guess I just don't understand why we (or maybe just me) are so concerned about this topic...If Brunell wants some kind of guarantee to start, there should be no chance of him coming here.

I shouldn't have even brought this up...sorry

DID2004 No need for apologies...One of the things I love best about coming here is speculating and hearing other speculate...now back to the topic

Here’s my take. I view this kind of like a title fight; you know how the challenger has to come in a really beat up the champion to win. Now here the kicker, if Brunell gets 20 mil over three years?? Guess who's going into camp as the champion?? So Ramsey will have to REALLY outperform Brunell in camp. If he does what will Brunell do...two word...GET PAID

Shhh! Don't tell anyone...but DallasisDead2004 said:

Exactly. If Brunell insists on having that provision in his contract, he's gonna "insist himself" right to another team.

One thing I love about Gibbs, he's gonna bring players in to challenge others already on this team to play at their best (to keep their job). This includes Ramsey. Whomever Gibbs is able to bring in, I hope he can be the starter right away...because if Ramsey feels the pressure, he's gonna improve a ton....just to keep his job!

"Do you think Brunell would try to secure a starting job in his contract?"

Is that even possible? Any team who writes a starting job into a contract should be contracted...

If Brunell does happen to lose the starting spot to Ramsey, and Marky Mark wants the starting job, do you think he'll request a trade. Maybe at the end of training camp or the preseason? Who could we get for him during the preseason?

If he gets that sweet signing bonus, I seriously doubt it...

That kind of thing just doesn't happen. You can put it in a contract all you want, no team would ever sign it.

... because then every player would want it.

I am 99.9999% sure that it has NEVER been a provision in an NFL contract.

You're talking about contracts that offer very little protection to the players and whose only guaranteed money is the signing bonus. These are not contracts that are typically 'player heavy' in demands... it's the other way around.
Sean Taylor was one of a kind, may he rest in peace.

I'm with Boss here... There would be no way for a player to be promised a starting job. Beyond the point, a team would be that much more stupid to guarantee a spot to a 33-year-old, with two bum knees, and a bad elbow.

I think no matter what's in his contract, Brunell would come in as the favorite. Joe Gibbs favors a veteran QB. However, I also think that Joe Gibbs is going to go with the better overall QB so if Ramsey outplays Brunell in camp, the job is his. Ramsey would definitely be at a disadvantage and I think would have to make a convincing statement in camp but I definitely think Gibbs would go with him if he did... and I would definitely love to see Ramsey come into camp, blow Brunell away and lead us to the promised land.
