Please keep your fingers crossed!
Jackson has been sick since about Monday. Scott and I were taking turns taking off and rearranging things at work to be here with him. We thought it was a virus after speaking with his dr but when it was still not gone yesterday we took him in to see the dr. They noticed he was wheezing, which we hadn't. (Insert horrible parents accusation here) So they started monitoring his oxygen levels. The dr was a little freaked out as they were extremely low. We did 3 breathing treatments total at which time his oxygen level was better but still not good. So we were in between going to the hospital and renting a nebulizer to do the treatments at home. The dr sent us to get the medicine for the nebulizer and told us to come back so they could check him again, hoping that his levels would be a little better. When we got back they were at the lower end of average. So they sent us home. We've done breathing treatments every four hours since we got home but he's still hacking and having trouble. The plan today is a chest xray this morning and then another trip to the dr with the xrays. Our odds today are not very good. If it's pneomonia (sp?) they may hospitalize him. And if his oxygen levels are back down they also will hospitalize him. I just thought if you guys could all keep him in your thoughts today it might help. It was funny because everytime a number of a Redskin popped up on his little monitor yesterday he'd say look mommy, look daddy it's Cornelius Griffin (or whoever's number it was). Oh and did I mention that his tonsils are also enlarged. I'm feeling major guilt for the decision to return to work. Poor little guy.
I'll post an update as soon as we know one.

Guilt? Come on Niki... that isn't going to help you, and what could be further from the truth? Don't punish yourself over this. 'Stuff' happens... whether you're working or not and it's doubtful that your being at work had a single thing to do with Jackson getting sick.
You'll have my thoughts all day for sure, and you know I love the little guy so I pray that everything is okay.
And it will be.
Stop beating yourself up over something that doesn't have anything to do with 'bad parenting' or anything like that. People get sick... fortunately, they get better too.

Niki - don't feel guilty. I know it's easier to say than to do....cause I've been there...but like the Boss says... "Stuff" happens and it's gonna happen whethere you're at work or not.
Please keep us posted and tell Jackson we are thinking positive thoughts and praying for his speedy recovery !!

Ditto what BH and Terri said! There is nothing, NOTHING, to be guilty about. I hope Jackson's feeling much better soon.

My younger brother (he's
has been using a nebulizer for many years, and he has also been rushed to the hospital for wheezing, among some other things. He had bad asthma, which seems to have gotten a little better recently, and his allergies are insane too. I will hold your little guy in my prayers - I'm sure a young Redskins fan can get through anything!

Thanks guys. His dr is really good so I have faith in whatever she tells us. Scott has taken him for his chest xray. He convinced me to stay at work, like I'm going to get anything at all done. But at least the state knows I'm here. His appt to see the dr is at 10:15.

Bad Parents???? A bad parent wouldn't even know the kid was sick in the first place! You're not a doctor, it's normal for us "average people" to miss something a doctor could notice! What causes your oxygen to go low??? or is that a common thing that happens?

Look, there is a BAD flu and cold going around that knocks people off their feet. I got it in NY in April, was sick for a week and then REALLY got sick for the week after. I had to get clearance from the medical unit to be able to fly back to Canada.
Eveybody was convinced that I had pneumonia. It was not but I had x-rays done in NY anyway. It was not pneumonia but it took several weeks before I was mostly healthy.
Bad news were that I brought the virus back home to Canada. My 12 year old son was first with it. My daughter (15) was second. It took them about a week and a half to go back to school. Apparently the bug came from South East Asia and it did spread all over the world. But it was an evil one.
Yes, I felt miserable seeing my family sick. It was -MY- fault alone. Did that help? Not at all. All we can do is try our best and take them to the Dr and hospital if necessary.
My thoughts are with the three of you.
Daniel Snyder has defined incompetence, failure and greed to true Washington Redskins fans for over a decade and a half. Stay away from football operations !!!

What good would staying home have done? kids just get sick and it's not like you could prevent that or even notice it any faster than you did if you had been a stay at home mom.
If you had stayed home then maybe you would feel guilty a few years down the line when you couldn't send him to the college you want... guilt isn't rational and you can always blame yourself for something even when it doesn't make sense.
Heck I had my fair share of trips to the hospital when I was a young, young kid and I'd like to think it helped me avoid the fear of doctors that many people seem to develop.
Maybe Jackson'll see how the doctors made [i]him[\i] better and he'll want to be a doctor!

Ok they are admitting him to the hospital now. I am stuck here without a car until my co-workers get back from court. Scott went to go get him checked in.

Please keep us posted when you can about his progress. I am really thinking about you folks. I know we have not met but you are like family now.

Barely glanced at the board this morning...missed all this. Wow.
Delete "bad parents" thoughts. Insert "fine parents" thoughts, please.
And please let us know how he's doing.
(By the time you see this, it will have been a very long day and night, I'm sure. Take care.)
John
just wanted to bring you all the little news that I know to keep you as up to date as i can.
Scott and Niki spent all of yesterday and last night in the hospital with Jackson as they still don't know what's wrong with my little buddy. Niki sounded in decent spirits last night when i talked to her, but obviously being the great parents that they are, they're worried and want to know what's causing Jackson's breathing issues. They were told by the doctors that they hoped to know more after being able to observe him for 24 hours.
Keep sending your thoughts and prayers their way to help them get through this quickly and as painlessly as possible.
I want to add two cents here though... over the course of the last year I have become very close to the whole family... Scott and I talk so much that the long distance phone companies are thinking of having us do a commercial.
Well not really, but you get the picture. Were it not for geography, we'd spend an awful lot of time together because they're just my kind of peeps. Niki is one of the most loving mothers you will ever meet as evidenced by the absolutely wonderful boy that jackson is. I love kids but i don't know if i have ever been so enamored with one as i am with jackson. He is a phenomenal young man. I could go on for hours about how at 3 years old, his knowledge of the Redskins isn't just unbelievable... it's off the charts. Show jackson a Redskin head shot and he'll tel you who it is (last year he pulled Bill Ferrario out of his hat and we were all like huh?)... show him a number, he'll tell you who's it is... show him an NFL logo... he'll tell you whose it is and likely who the QB of that team is.
He's 3 years old.
But all Redskins phenomena aside... he is likely the most polite young man I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. Last year at camp he took to calling me BossHog like a kid to candy. Then he started calling taz Miss Hog.
.
But from there it went to Mr. mark and Miss taz. This kind of politeness only comes from wonderful parenting and from a loving home. They are 3 of my favorite people on the planet and as such, it hurts me to see them have to go through any turmoil. But i know that everything will be fine and that my little buddy will bounce up ad be running around again very, very soon. Until then, they have all of my thoughts and all of my best wishes and I hope that you will all do the same.
If they made every parent like Scott and Niki, there'd be a lot less problems in the world. Keep your sticks on the ice Scott and Niki, you'll get through this fine... I'll be waiting with virtual open arms for when this little ordeal is over. I know that jackson will be 'ssssafe'.

I only have a second but we have little to no answers. Jackson is home for right now but has just started wheezing again and he cannot do his breathing treatment for another hour and half. We are trying to take it slow and not rush right back (at least Scott is).
I was almost positive the dr gave us a diagnosis of asthma last night but Scott seems to think he was still sort of skating the issue.
All of your well wishes mean alot to us and we are hopefully on the upswing thanks to all of them. Thanks Boss so much for the kind words and for updating everyone, I was a bit scatterbrained last night when I came home to retrieves something or I would have asked you to post an update!
We will be MIA for a while likely but hopefully will return with some kind of idea what is going on.

I completely missed this thread earlier.
Niki, please don't beat yourself up for not hearing a wheeze. It's not like you ever heard one before. Doctors can miss subtle wheezes. ANd if it is asthma, he's following the pattern. A first attack around or before three, usually triggered by a viral infection. Very common to be admitted to the hosp just as you described, with low o2 saturation and usually neg xrays.
I'm sure everything will be alright. You'll be in my prayers.
