There is no real downside to this pickup. I do think a young guy with a lot of upside can be at or better competition than a guy who is probably past his prime.

Thrash and Patten have a combined 17 years in the league. I think we have enough mentors in our WR Corps, I'd rather see us develop some playmakers with future longevity.

I think this is great... Boss explains really well why this is good for the skins. As for Dyson, this is good whether he makes the team or not. If he does, he has a job. If not, he will have shown what he can do to other teams and hopefuly (for him) continue his career.

i really want to see jacobs and mccants get a lot more time and opportunity this year, to see what they can become... hopefully gibbs hasn't seen anything already in OTAs that makes him think "these guys aren't quite going to cut it".

but i guess the best thing is just to have the best WRs start, whoever they may be. curiosity or hopefulness about youngsters isn't as important as winning. hopefuly though the young guys can help us win.

I like this signing. Very interesting considering we brought him in once or twice before and didn't sign him.

Yeah. We brought him or once or twice under Gibbs, too. I think we tried him out earlier this year.

Why are we looking at AFreeman too? We're going to have to cycle all these WRs out every game! Freeman should be a good pick up though.

I like the signing of Dyson, he has good size and he's not that old. Since no team usually goes injury free it can't hurt to have him learning the system in camp.

Greetings from NYC: I would rather have Jacob's and McCants on the roster than Dyson. Could it be that Joe is trying to light a fire under McCants butt? Are we going to use Thrash as the 2nd H back, Dyson in the slot and go empty backfield in short passing situations?

McCants is the man...whether you like it or not. He's going to have a great year...he's going to prove that not playing him more last year was detrimental to the Redskins.

we need some height

Post by gibbs#1 »

kevin dyson is a better version of mccants same height build + our starting receivers don't have much size what if they start getting bumped dyson is big enough and experienced enough to play a big part

[-X Umm...I don't know if i'm a psycho but I do think I remember hearing JGibbs talk about how McCants is going to be having a key role in the Redskins' offense next year.

I don't think Dyson will make the roster come September.

I honestly think he was brought in for one reason....so Joe Gibbs can see how well Jason Campbell and Brunell throw to "decent" WR's.

It's hard to gauge your QB when Ramsey gets to throw to the starters 75% of practice.

Too bad Ramsey was not given that luxury last September/October.

If Dyson shows something that he hasn't the last 2 years then sure, keep him. Good depth.

Isn't Ike Hilliard still available?

Ah, well Koren Robinson is available.

Maybe he and Sean Taylor can car pool to practice after Happy Hour?

Redskins: Dyson signed, Freeman rejected

THE NEWS

The Redskins signed free agent wide receiver Kevin Dyson on Monday. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. The Washington Post reports that Dyson and former Packers' and Eagles' wide receiver Antonio Freeman worked out for the team on Monday. Dyson was signed to what is believed to be a one-year deal, while Freeman left town without a contract. Dyson has only appeared in one game over the last two years due to knee injuries.

OUR VIEW

You know a team is desperate for wideout help when they bring in aging stiffs like Dyson and Freeman for workouts, let alone sign one of them. Dyson was actually the first receiver selected in the 1998 draft. The 30 year-old veteran was selected ahead of some guy named Randy Moss that year.

I thought we were interested in getting Dyson and Freeman....I guess not.

I seriously doubt that we brought him in to see how Brunell would react to him. I mean, I'm sure Campbell and Ramsey and Brunell all get their fair share of looks at each WR. I mean, it's not like only Ramsey gets to throw to Moss and Patten.

While I agree that Dyson may not still be here by September, I can't think that the only reason we brought Dyson in was to see how our QB's could throw to WR in practice. But maybe he'll earn a spot and will be a great #3 WR for our team.

And I also disagree about our 04 WR's, because I actually thought our WR last year were at least decent if not better. Sure, Coles had that toe problem but he was tough and would go over the middle. Gardner was streaky, but still a fair number 2. McCants, Thrash, and Jacobs all were solid in their little amounts of playing time, and Cooley and Royal were surprisingly dominant.

While this years crop may be more reliable, I think we will still take one step back because if Dyson stays, our # 1, 2, and 3 WR's will all be learning a new system.

What are you guys smoking. Dyson can't play. He's not even as good as Gardner; not even close, actually. If we have a real need for him, we're really in trouble. We're looking at 4 and 12.

You're yanking my chain, G.F. At least, I hope so. The prospect of losing Taylor and picking up a journeyman like Dysan as a starter--all in one week-- is too much of a strain on my heart. I'm coming, Elizabeth.
