just heard on espn
just heard on espn that he was being looked at as a "person of interest" for the stealing of a car and shooting, but his arrest warrant was for assault and that he is definitely being charged with assault...not sure what the law is in FL, could someone fill me in as to a possible sentence if he's found guilty?

Safety charged with assault, batteryESPN.com news services
MIAMI -- Washington Redskins safety Sean Taylor, described as a "person of interest" in an assault case, turned himself in to Miami-Dade County police on Saturday, ESPN.com's Len Pasquarelli reported. Taylor has been charged with aggravated assault with a firearm, a felony, and simple battery.
Taylor
The assault happened Wednesday night and shots were fired, police spokesman Mary Walters said. No one was injured.
Questioned about a broadcast report that Taylor, when found, would be charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, one South Florida law enforcement source with knowledge of the investigation said: "All I can tell you is that the investigation has moved forward in some areas but that, at this point, officially, nothing has changed in terms of [Taylor's] status. He remains a person of interest to us. If or when something changes, people will know it."
Police have not issued an arrest warrant against Taylor.
"We need to speak to him, we don't know if he's a victim, witness or suspect," Walters said on Friday.
Walters said she didn't have further details and police were still investigating.
The Washington Post reported on its Web site the assault case involved a stolen car. Taylor and a friend were reportedly at the scene of a crime, but it was unclear who the stolen car belonged to and why Taylor was there. A public information officer for the Miami-Dade County Police Department told The Post that shots were fired into the vehicle.
Earlier Friday, Detective Robert Williams said "a person of interest" means Taylor could be a subject, victim or witness of an alleged crime and that the police department was looking for him.
Taylor's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, declined comment Friday. Taylor and the Redskins didn't immediately return phone messages seeking comment.
Taylor, who wants a new contract, has been working out in Miami despite pleas from coach Joe Gibbs to join the team in voluntary workouts at their home base in suburban Washington. He signed a seven-year, $18 million deal as the No. 5 overall draft pick in the 2004 draft.
The former Miami Hurricanes standout has had a tempestuous start to his NFL career.
He has fired two agents, was fined for skipping one day of the NFL's mandatory rookie symposium and was accused of spitting on a player during a game at Cincinnati, although he was not punished because the league said there was no video evidence.
He was also charged with drunken driving in October, when he was pulled over at 2:45 a.m. after attending a birthday party for receiver Rod Gardner. Those charges were dismissed in January.
Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.

having said all that, we should remember that he's 22, a 2nd year player, and possibly a perfect combination of ed reed and roy williams. we should remember that gregg williams loves him, and was a big reason why we picked him. and, for all those people who constantly say how much we should trust coach gibbs, we should remember that gibbs called that draft pick "one of the most researched things in sports." if you want to trust in gibbs, than trust in him fully when he picked sean.
There is no doubt that he is a hell of a talent. None of that makes him bigger than the team. And, not one of your points provides a single excuse for his behavior. There are a few hundred 22 year olds in the NFL who have not once seen the inside of a booking area. There are a few hundred 2nd year players who have not once missed a workout or OTA. And Ed Reed and Roy Williams have not once found themselves charged with aggravated assault with a firearm.
You may think he's bigger than the team... (he clearly does) You are both wrong.
Anyone who thinks that Gibbs will let this slide simply does not know Gibbs. This punk has thoroughly screwed himself. Perhaps, in a few years, he will be able to play for Al Davis. Can't play for the Cowboys... they have retired all their felons.

This breaks my heart.
I consider Sean Taylor to be the best football player on the Redskins, and someone with as much potential as any player in the entire NFL. I really, really hope this somehow blows over. I don't know what else to say.

I met Sean last year at training camp. I thought he seemed like a good guy. He was my favorite player over Portis for a little while, until his DUI. He'll be okay if someone can get through to him in order to get his butt in gear. He needs to GROW UP and become a man and he needs to do it fast.
I want people to stop talking about trading Taylor.
He is 22 years old and already one of the best players in the league at his position.
Besides, given his current legal troubles there is no way the Redskins could get even CLOSE to equal trade value for him.
Let's find out more about this situation before we ship him off somewhere for a future draft pick. I have a feeling that if we do, we'll be watching him go into Canton in 20 years representing another team.

I hope he's on the field knocking Cowboys out on MNF. He should have his case continued until the season is over, then if found guilty, serve time in the offseason like Jamal. Screw trading him. He's too mean and intimidating not to have as our safety. WRs will really be scared to cross his path now.
Let us all gather around and drink the
ey-Aid of the Redskins.

I guess Gibbs shouldn't feel bad. According to this article, Taylor hasn't spoken to his own mother either. Even she said she didn't know where he was.

I hope this shines some light on Rosenhaus' 'holdout' tactic. If Sean had only been in Virginia, this would have never happened.

Hey watch those comments pal. Not every where in Virginia is full of rednecks! (Ok so where I live is but go 20 miles East and it's not!)
As far as Sean Taylor I believe it was a bad decision but is there any one here who didn't do something they regret at age 20 something??

WTF??? not witty...not witty at all.
I was going to crass, not witty.
I got your number. I steal your thunder. I got your mother's maiden name tattooed on my arm.
Why don't they make them like Pat Fischer [and Mike Bass] anymore?
Because they make too many like Sean Taylor.
If he likes shooting guns, I suggest he go to this website:
http://www.goarmy.com/flindex.jsp
and join up. As Wesley Clark said, they have a lot of weapons he can fire...if he can make it through training camp. Unfortunately, there are no OTA's. No hiding in Miami training "on his own".
