Daddy Winslow sticks up for K2

Talk about the AFC, NFC, the NFL Draft, College Football... anything football that has no Washington Football Team relevance.

Daddy Winslow sticks up for K2

Post by oafusp »

I saw the thing on TV, it was hilarious.
I see where K2 gets his arrogance.

Winslow Sr.: 'I'm Winslow Sr.: 'I'm disappointed' in media

INDEPENDENCE, Ohio (AP) - Injured Cleveland Browns tight end Kellen Winslow Jr. made his first public appearance since his motorcycle crash, and his father used the occasion Friday night to lambaste the media for its coverage of the accident.

The 21-year-old Winslow tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee when he wrecked his high-powered motorcycle May 1 while doing tricks in a secluded parking lot near his home. He will miss all of next season.
Winslow Jr., who missed 14 games as a rookie with a broken right leg, will undergo surgery in the next few weeks.

Shortly after arriving at an auction and roast celebrating the Browns' 1964 NFL championship team, the former first-round pick, who didn't limp, said he didn't want to talk to waiting reporters.

"No," he said politely. "I'm good."

Kellen Winslow Sr., who drove his son to the event and escorted him into the hotel, initially said he would not comment, either. However, a few hours later, the Hall of Famer changed his mind.

The former San Diego Chargers star angrily accused the media of turning the younger Winslow's accident and recovery into a spectacle.

"I'm disappointed in the way you guys have handled it. Twenty-one-year-old people make mistakes," he said. "He made a mistake. You made it a circus. Remember when you were 21? A human being at 21 makes mistakes. He's not a piece of property."

Winslow Sr. was asked if he expected his son to make a full recovery.

"It's a long career," he said. "I played nine years in the National Football League. Technically, I played six years - two strikes, two major injuries and I came out OK. We look at it as a long-term career.

"You guys look at it as a moment in time and you blow it out of proportion. This Jerry Springer mentality of journalism, you guys are better than that. You should be ashamed of yourselves. Presidents make mistakes. Senators make mistakes. Journalists, if you still call yourselves that, make mistakes."

As his father was speaking in the hallway, Kellen Winslow Jr. was inside the ballroom listening to a speech by Hall of Fame Browns running back Jim Brown.

Because Winslow Jr. breached a "dangerous activities" clause in his contract by getting hurt while riding a motorcycle, the Browns may try to recoup some of the bonus money they have paid him.

I bet all Univeristy of Miami fathers are disappointed in THE MEDIA when their sons do something stupid. Great way to help your kid grow up and learn from their mistakes....BLAME THE MEDIA, and tell the kid to BLAME THE MEDIA....instead of telling the kid the media would not be talking about anything if they didn't screw up over and over and over again.

There are a lot of young rising stars in the league that do not need to blame the media because they don't even get themselves into bad situations.

K2 made a mistke, not the first one either, he (K2) needs to learn how to deal with it, he can't get his dad involved and blame everyone else every time he screws up!

It is called LACK OF ACCOUNTABILITY by both Winslows.

Welcome to the board teenage dirtbag!
Daniel Snyder has defined incompetence, failure and greed to true Washington Redskins fans for over a decade and a half. Stay away from football operations !!!

Kellen SR. admitted that his son made a mistake. That was the point of his rant. He was just disappointed that the media made a mockery about a serious accident.

The kid had serious injuries, and all that the media focused on was returning the signing bonus and basically making a joke out of the whole thing, When Jay Williams did the same thing, the media coverage was much different. I think Kellen Sr. was just sticking up for his son, and not blaming the media for the accident, but instead for the way they covered it.
SPIT HAPPENS!!

No sympathy for him here. Making millions of dollars and putting your investment (his body) in jeopardy. The more I think about it the more of a idiot I think he is.

If K-1 is truly understanding of people's mistakes (especially including the President's and senators), then he would have labeled the media's attention as a mistake - and let it go.

Truly dumb, IMO.

K-1 cries about the media's over-exposure with regards to his son's accident, but he can't refrain from retaliation? A simple "no comment" from K-1 would have been more appropriate, I think. My 2 cents

In K1's defense, the media coverage of K2's motorcycle accident was indeed excessive, IMO. Hopefully, the kid recuperates in time to fulffill his potential.

THEN we will see if the MEDIA will provide the same coverage. I mean, give the kid a break!!

...it's not like he "Pulled a Sean".

People recover from injuries all the time. They don't always create those injuries in such spectacular fashion.

So true.

If K2 had not sat out most of his rookie year, I doubt the media would have attacked this story as much. The mere fact that a potential football star loses his rookie year to an injury, and then loses what should be his comeback year due to an idiotic mistake, creates the hype here.

Next year, we should look for K2 to try out for the "Super Ultimate Extreme Skydiving Championship." That should get him nice and hurt for his third season.
