Mark Brunell isn't the only veteran quarterback being eyed by Washington Redskins coach Joe Gibbs.
Gibbs also is considering several other veteran passers who might be obtained via trade, a Redskins source said late yesterday. In addition to the Jacksonville Jaguars' Brunell, with whom Gibbs met Monday in the St. Augustine, Fla., area, Gibbs appears to be eyeing the San Francisco 49ers' Jeff Garcia and Seattle Seahawks' Trent Dilfer.
Trent Dilfer would be the perfect backup... There would be no controversy, he is extremely smart, and he has a ring. I think Ramsey would respect a fellow good-guy like Dilfer...
Brunell, and Garcia will both crave for plapying time, and they are both coming off of seasons where they battled injuries, and lost their jobs to younger, more able starters...

yes they did pass on dilfer and went with shuler, boy another great draft we had(yeah right!)dilfer would be a solid pickup with experience.garcia is injury prone with his back and all let alone what has happened to him this offseason already.
That was a rough year for quarterbacks. The cream of the crop would be Trent Dilfer, Jim Miller and Glenn Foley. The best player taken in the draft (other than Marshall Faulk who went #2) would probably be Bryant Young or Isaac Bruce. Not that this is relevant to anything...

Hey, my boy Tydus Winans was drafted by us that year!
Hey wasn't given a fair chance by us. I would compare him to Darnerien except Tydus got some PT during his rookie year unlike McCants.
Oh yeah, my mom also e-mailed the Spurrier show and got him some playing time. She never did that with Tydus!
I still like Darnerien, though.
Ok, back to the topic, I think Dilfer would be great here. He is a class act and I would love seeing him in burgundy and gold.

i like darnerien too-i think he will be alot better than desmond howard-correction he is better than desmond.i liked tydus too.dilfer rather than brunell.mho
Not Griese, he has no drive. Not Fiedler, he has no arm. Dilfer or Blake look like they are the best fits, both as players and as salary cap numbers...

thats the thing, got to have the proper fit with the cap along with the ability in the right situation or better like you put a better fit. it,s all about those cap numbers as well.
no I would rather have hassleback over Griese, Blake or Dilfer would be fine backups, god the ravens were so Dumb in getting rid of Dilfer for Elvis Gerbac and since then the Ravens have not been able to find a consistent QB, worse move ever

so true. they can only hope boller pans out. how do you dump your SB MVP anyways????
THN's resident jerk.
Glock .40 Model 22 - First* line of home defense.... 'ADT' is for liberals.
In all fairness to the Ravens, it's not like Trent Dilfer has gone on to great things since he left the Ravens. Dumping him was a bad move, but it isn't the worst move ever. I think of many moves the Redskins have made at the quarterback position that are much more questionable...
Letting Dilfer go wasn't that terrible of a move by the Ravens. And I agree that he would be a great backup for the Skins. I wouldn't mind Griese or Blake either. I just saw Gus Frerotte on SportsCenter, how about him. j/k. I would want those guys because they would likely be backups to Ramsey, and good ones at that. I don't want a QB to start over Ramsey.

That's easy, T-6. You dump your SB MVP when your actual SB MVP is a murdering bastard, and couldn't be selected due to public opinion. Dilfer wasn't in there to win the game: he was in there to not lose it.
Look, I feel for the man they call Dilfer. I'm just not convinced that he's a better clip-board holder than Wuerfful. I like Jason Garrett, myself, for that job.
How about him ? He's already a career backup.

JPFair- A fan's fan. RIP, brother
Jason Garrett? He hasn't thrown a pass since 1999! I don't think that qualifies as the type of backup Gibbs, or anyone in their right mind, is looking for. In terms of money and ability, I think the best fit would be Blake, but Dilfer would be just fine...

I don't know about that. When hasselbeck came into the dolphin's game, he had a good game. But after he put up a goose egg 0 QB rating during the Dallas game, I realized we needed more depth on the QB roster. Don't forget everybody, all three super bowls that the skins won were done with veteran and experienced QBs (Theissmann 32, Williams was in his 30's, and Rypien was 29.)
Let us all gather around and drink the ey-Aid of the Redskins.
