Glamour Picks
Where have glamour picks gotten the Redskins?
I'm not sure about every single one, but it seems that as fans we haven't gotten too much for Daniel Snyder's money. Talented, characterless players see the Redskins as a golden cash cow. For heaven sake, we even hired Stever Spurrier (who I absolutely couldn't stand when he was at Florida).
Fact is, glamour picks, draft-free agent-coach, whatever, don't win football games. Teams do. Gibbs understands this and that is why we as fans should yield to his judgement. Look at the Patriots, they are a terrific example. I sit here and read how so many uninformed fans berate players because they don't have a University of Miami pedigree, they don't have they hype surrounding them.
Terry Bowden tried to bring that crap to Auburn and thank God we got rid of him! There's no questioning Sean Taylor's talent, but man I question his character. I'm not sure if he'll ever be a quality Redskin. It takes some time and some searching to find players like Darryl Green and Art Monk.
Thank God we have have our coach back again. Have some faith and some patience and jump off the Daniel Snyder glamour bandwagon.

I've been knocking "the Danny" for years but the fact of the matter is, when he was signing all those glamore picks/players nobody was complaining. We were happy
We didn't get upset until that big name flopped:shock: but thats how fans are. With our luck we got a fan for a owner and he did what any fan would do, but he did it for years and it took him some time to figure out he didn't know what he was doing in some aspect of running the team.
But you really can't knock him for doing what he does......
Just like any other TRUE REDSKIN FAN(owner or not) I looked to Gibbs to restore the glory.

Even though last year wasn't as good as most skins fans hoped we have to have faith in Gibbs, Except for the signing of Moss, none of the picke we made were glamour picks. Our front office has done a good job of getting guy who hopefully fit our system instead of high-profile guys. I believe we have many great things to come with this Gibbs era. All it takes is time, let Gibbs get his "feel" for the game back, and it's all downhill from there.

And Dexter Manley and George Starke right?
I think some people are confusing "quality Redskin" with "perfect human being". John Riggins also held out and drank alcohol. I don't see anyone here questioning his character.
I'm bored, I'm broke, and I'm back.

Any pick in the top five is a glamour pick. These are the guys that you are supposed to build a team around.
In memorium Sean Taylor 1983-2007 R.I.P.

Mike Williams, Moss? Not my idea of glamor picks. Both are young, viable ballplayers, not really overhyped in a league with, say Deon, TO, Randy Moss, etc. I don't think there was a genuine glamor pick in this year's draft. The term implies that the player's name is bigger than his talent, I think. Jerry Rice? Yes. Only glamor now. Brady? No. Solid player.
A good, character-based team is an environment where a Dexter Manley and George Stark thrive; e.g., the 80% reign in the 20%. Washington hasn't had that type of situation since Gibbs left.
The ultimate "glamour" pick had to have been Deion Sanders, what a waste! Mike Williams is a risky pick to me, someone who left his team as a sophomore to go a league and challenge the NFL rule of no sophomores. And USC didn't do too bad without him.

G'day Coachkyle and welcome to the best site for Redskins fans.
At some time you can have some fun and research the posts on this topic (using the "Search" feature at the top of the page!) but it appropo right now with the 6/1 cuts.
A number of us are very happy to have Joe back and even more pleased to see/know that he has "full" control of our team. Dan is still very present but there has been no doubt in anyone's minds (yes, we have some doubters but they'll come around) that Joe is running things his way and he is getting the team/players that he thinks fit his team ideals and concepts. Joe is about one thing and that is being successful and he will surround himself with the coaches and players to ensure that.
I also would suggest you check out an earlier thread on our owner who is still very involved but IMO has let Joe do his thing and supports him as well as he can.
We are very lucky to have this guy as our owner and even luckier that he got Joe to come back as our coach.

Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

Greetings from NYC: I for one am glad that we seem to have stoped signing every high priced over the hill free agent vet that becomes available. Joe has been wise to use our 1st round picks to upgrade the defense. I believe that Defense wins championship's

I disagree I think that you can have a high pick and not have it be a glamour pick. Winslow last year and M. Williams this year would have been a glamour pick for the Skins, because they were the big named guys that many of the fans wanted. I don't think that Taylor was as much of a flashy pick as Winslow would have been considering the hype surronding Winslow...
