Brunell Trade a Ploy?

Post by BringBackGibbs »

Do you think that this whole Brunell deal is a way to up his value for the other teams that Gibbs is simply trying to eliminate any chance of Dallas getting this guy? Just think about it. If Dallas is a suitor for him and they can offer some cheap trade, then they improve themselves.

If we up his value, then only serious bidders like Miami and San Diego would be the ones going for him. This means Brunell stays in the AFC and not in the NFC.

However, if this were to be sincere, then I think we have a problem on our hand. Ramsey is a quality starter. The only knock on him is that he is not very mobile and he holds on to the ball too long.

Some members have suggested that idea in earlier threads...

I personally would love for Dallas to break the bank for this guy...and his knees go out in the second game :D

But I've read a few articles about the other teams in the running, and it looks like they are all kind of holding out on making quick moves...it would be great if his price tag went from a 2nd rounder to a first, and the Skins don't trade for Brunell and he ends up in the same position he would have been in: trying to find a job!
Dallas is Dead. And so is anyone else that disrespects the Man!

I don't think Gibbs would have went as far as to meet with Brunell personally if this were just a ploy to keep him out of Dallas.

It has been reported that we are only interested in him if he is released. Look for Dallas to go after someone like Volek

Yeah, having dinner with Brunell in Jacksonville just to stop Dallas from getting him? Sounds a little far-fetched to me.

Greetings all. This is my first post.

Coach Gibbs is a great strategist, but I'm sure he's not trying to outsmart Dallas in this way. As others have pointed out though, he beat everyone to the punch by contacting Brunnell before Jacksonville releases him. Shrewd!

So if the word today is that he's also got Dilfer and Garcia on his shopping list, can you imagine who else (QBs or otherwise) is next?

According to Smith, Jacksonville wants teams to submit trade proposals simply for an opportunity to talk to Brunell, who will be traded or released this offseason. If Jacksonville approves of the offer, only then would it grant permission to meet with Brunell.

The Washington Redskins apparently complied with the stipulation, because their coach, Joe Gibbs, has visited with Brunell. Smith said he's unwilling to make a trade proposal at this time because he first wants to meet face-to-face with Brunell to determine whether the sides are a good fit.

there's the rest of the article about the Charger's and Brunell.

Why is everyone bouncing off the walls for Volek??? He's not that good of a player. I mean that in the sense that he shouldn't be heavily pursued by teams because most of the available QB's are better.

As far as Dallas is concerned, I don't think Volek is the solution at quarterback. Now I think he's a good quarterback, and teams looking for someone to play #2 or potentially push an incumbent for the starters spot (can't think of any teams like that off the top of my head) Volek would be a very good fit...

Well, I don't NOT like Volek, but I think he is a little overrated. Given, he filled in great for McNair in 2003, but it was only for a couple games. He shouldn't be mentioned when it comes to QB options in the offseason. I like him but IMO, he's not as good as other QB's available. Just my My 2 cents

Volek might be the second coming of Jake Delomme guys!

But seriously, if the Cowboys want him I'm not gonna argue, he's not much better if any than Quincy Carter

I personally see Trent Dilfer fitting the "veteran back-up" role better than Brunell, where Ramsey won't be challenged with his starting spot. However, if he goes down again, we will have an able backup who could fill in nicely until Patrick gets back.

I for one would take Brunell any day over Dilfer. Dilfer is a great human being but an average QB at best.

But guys let's not sweat the Brunell "thing". We as fans deserve the best the Skins can put forward. If it's Ramsey then great - if it's Brunell that works also. As long as we are winning games, playing like a team and following the Gibbs way of ball we should be very happy.

The only downside I see on aquiring Brunell is what it will cost us in draft picks / trades and if he isn't the starter will he stir up the club house.

Two good QB's on the staff with Hasselbeck as the 3rd string QB sounds just about right to me.

Is it September yet????
