Hall In, Taylor Out??

Post by Tahoe Skin »

Does anyone get the impression that we signed Cory Hall because either (1) the Skins know Sean Taylor may not be showing up for mandatory camp, and/or (2) the Skins are taking their first step to eventually unloading Sean Taylor? After all, Taylor's been downright rude to Gibbs, is obviously not the Redskin "character-type" that Gibbs likes, and is seemingly the Coles-type distraction that Gibbs is wont to unload: selfish, disgruntled and contractually unatainable. I mean if he wouldn't return my calls, and winds up holding out - I'd negotiate with teams and try to unload him for multiple high picks. Maybe not just yet, but maybe in June when he decides to hold out!

I know, I know - you would think Taylor knows he runs the risk of losing $$$ if he doesn't show up for mandatory camp. But maybe he's smoking that same Florida ganja that Ricky was smoking. Or, maybe, just maybe Rosenhaus is thinking that if Sean Taylor pisses the Skins off the way Coles did, the Skins will pull another bonehead move and trade Taylor just the way they gave in to Coles. So . . . Taylor gets traded, Taylor gets the sweet deal that he'd like, and the Skins get slammed like they did in the Coles/Jets deal. Do I hear Champ Bailey and the Denver Broncos giggling, and is that Antonio Pierce and Fred Smoot smirking in the background??

Or maybe we learned our lesson in the Coles/Jets deal and will let Taylor sit for a year, call it a breach of contract, and then smartly spread his money around to upgrade our DE/DT/LG spots for the coming year? And then, we do what the Dolphins did!!! Go after all that bonus money the player got! Hey, how bout that: The Skins finally get smart in their negotiations. Or, perhaps it's just the contract lawyer in me that's tired of seeing teams stupidly tear up bilaterally negotiated contracts by caving in to the ridiculous demands of today's prima donnas. Or, maybe it's just late and there's doesn't seem to be any interesting news to purview.

But, if we are going to trade him, can we please get someone who knows how to negotiate with other teams? I'm tired of having Broncos and Jets laughing at us.

No...I think they're just trying to add depth to a defense that relies heavily on solid secondary play.

No because their problems weren't with rookies, they didnt like when we signed "superstars" from other teams and penciled them in as starters from the start. The guys in the bowels of the depth chart never got a chance, and weren't treated as well.

You are kidding right? This camp fodder vs. an almost rookie of the year? Seriously, you are kidding right?

If this thread was started the beginning week of mandatory training camp, it would make sense. I think it is too early to even think about replacing STaylor.
Everything will be fine. Don't sweat it. Think about it from his perspective! He worked hard and he just wants a break! He knows the media is hungry for ANYTHING and probably figured he'd run in to trouble by them asking him about his arrest and other things. The kid is just exhausted. Don't you want vacations sometimes??
I'm confident he'll come back when the time is right and just pick up what the coaches put down (cliche). STaylor is a beast and he'll be the beast of the Skins for '05.

First, welcome to the board Tahoe Skin.

Second, you seem to be interested in negotiation strategies and tactics. Look, I am no expert NFL negotiator but bare with me for a second. Let us work out the following hypothetical scenarios.

1. Strategy.

As a matter of general principles, what is the vision that a head coach has for the players in his team:

a) They should consider themselves privileged to work -under- the leadership of their coaching staff and side-by-side as equals -with- their other teamates as brothers.

b) They need to have character and integrity. They need to understand that the team is first and foremost, and the achievement of their personal interests is a function of the success of the overall team.

c) They must have an unbreakable work ethic and motivation. While they may not be the most physically gifted athletes, they must be willing to prepare to win far more than other more gifted athletes may just want to win.

So, under the above three hypotheses, let us work the specifics of the tactics surrounding some of the cases that you mention in your post:

2. Tactics.

a) If L. Coles does not consider a privilege to work under Joe Gibbs and other coaches; and if he is not willing to see his teamates as equal brothers and the team ahead of himself and his personal statistics; and if he does not have the character to provide the locker room leadership that is expected, then

What do you do? You dump him! You dump him quick! You set an example about what will happen with prima donnas for all to see.

Would you like to play -along- with a teamate that does not want to be with you or cover your back? I did not think so.

b) Sean Taylor is a good player and a great athlete. Please note that there is a difference between the above attributes and a great player and a good athlete.

The difference between a good and a great player is ultimately proven on and off the field. On the field, it is measured by the overall success of the team and his contributions to win (not only tackles but others as well). Off the field, we know that a succesful athlete must have his head well placed on his shoulders. He has not proven that to everybody yet. A final judgment is still pending on his maturity and ability to manage his economic success and popularity.

What do you do? You do not make any -assumptions- about the guy. You prepare for all eventualities. Ah! and here is where the true beauty of a great negotiaton tactic lies:

You also send a subtle but clear message to the player to hear and understand without any misunderstanding (or embarrassment to him) whatsoever in case he is too busy to respond the phone calls from his head coach:

We are ready to move on with our life as a team with those who are prepared to contribute. Are you ready to be one of us? Ball is on your court. See you (or not) in training camp. Bye for now Sean.

Got it Tahoe Skin?

There are multiple threads started on this topic, but okay...whatever...

Where did you see this news about ST?

why would you start a new thread on something being discussed already less than 10 posts below it?

All you're doing is creating work for the moderators, because we're going to merge the topics anyway.

Have a look around before you start a new thread please.
Sean Taylor was one of a kind, may he rest in peace.

What? I thought JGibbs said he's holding out for other reasons than his contract? I don't know if we should believe 980.

You can't bring Pierce and Smooty into the argument. They were asking to be paid more than other players at the same position that outperformed them. Taylor signed what he thinks is a bad deal and is trying to force the Skins hand.

I have a feeling that the guys on 980 might have said that they thought this was the case. Every post by this batman cat is leading me to believe he is really gambit, just trying to play the other side, but with posts that exhibit no cohesive thoughts...
