Jeff Fraza defeated Brent Cooper in the first match.

Ishe Smith schooled Anthony Bonsante in the second match.

It's too bad this won't be coming back for another season.

BTW - Local boy (Great Falls, VA) Jimmy Lange will be fighting at 3 PM. He was eliminated from the show a few weeks back, but his fight today seems like it should be a cakewalk.

That whole 40s days of rain was pretty mean, too.

UPDATE: Jimmy Lange of Great Falls, VA is $200K richer after "defeating" Tarik (forgot his last name). The fight took place at Ceasar's Palace in Las Vegas. From the looks of it...the outcome must have been fixed. It looked like a draw, but only one of the judges scored iut that way; the other two recorded a blowout.

What's even harder to believe is that this final match was the one "EVRYONE" wanted to see. Apparently, only Jimmy Lange's family got to vote.

True, it is done in his name...but not via his orders. And Redeemed - how does boxing relate to the freeing of the Jews :hmm:

Thou shalt forgive thy neighbor; unlesseth their nameth happens to be loy.

Anyway, I don't watch that show because I saw it once, thought I would see training, fighting, etc. - instead, I saw the same 'reality' BS that's on every other channel. Drama, arguments, crybabies...not for me. I'll take the good ol' 24 - or any D.C. area sports broadcast!

I can answer that one. Every pair of golden gloves that's given out in boxing helps get a Jewish jeweler out of debt.

"The Latin Snake" Sergio Mora took home the $1,000,000 prize. It was a great fight!! It's too bad that NBC won't bring it back for another season.

On a serious note: Why aren't they bringing it back? Is it because of the suicide?

Probably has more to do with the lack of ratings.

Yes, ratings were bad. At one point it was on Tuesday nights, against "Idol", and, then it was relegated to Sunday nights. As a matter of fact, I'd totally forget about the show on Sundays and catch the recaps (and video) online. Toward the end, the show got better, and the fights as well.

Here's a funny recap of last night's finale by Bill Simmons:

Bill Simmons wrote:Knocking out 'The Contender'

Whenever fans of about-to-be-canceled shows deluge networks with protest letters, I always think to myself, "Those people need to get a life." If there aren't enough people watching, wasn't that the show's fault? Why keep airing something that can't build an audience? Would you protest a restaurant for dumping buffalo wings from the menu because nobody ordered them?

On the line some cash, a truck and a belt coming soon to an eBay site near you.
Well, I'm not sure how this happened ... but I could end up being one of those protestors. For the past few months, my favorite show has been "The Contender," which has been on the ropes (I know, bad boxing pun) with NBC for weeks. In fact, the show could disappear for good unless another network saves the day. Which raises a simple question: How could an entertaining TV show possibly fail? Was it the time slot? Do not enough people like boxing? Are people turned off by reality TV? Usually, I have a pretty good feel for stuff, but this one has me dumbfounded. I know 15 or 20 people who love this show, and they're telling me nobody watches it?

Anyway, there's a good chance that Tuesday night's live finale at Caesar's Palace could be the last "Contender" ever. Which left me no choice – for posterity's sake, I had to keep a running diary. Here's what transpired:

Read the rest of this hilarious take here.

Letter writing is a bad idea. Everyone knows that if you want to get a show back on the air you call the Make A Wish Foundation and tell them your son is going to die and he'd like that show put back on the air.

Please make this happen for my cat. It would mean the world to him.

It's all that favoritism, surely you understand.
