Post by air_hog »

I know its gameday and all, but i just saw the new movie Friday Night Lights and unless you are watching the Skins game, get your but up and go see this movie. It is BY FAR the best football movie ever made. Heck, it could be the best sports movie ever made. sorry its off topic, but i am not lying, it is the greatest movie within the past year or two. GO BOOBEY MILES!!!!!!!!!!!! AND GO SKINS!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry I have to disagree, I lived in San Antonio from 1986-90 and yes high school football is everything down there. I got to see players like the Detmer brothers, the Cash brothers. I just thought is was very sensationalized. I thought Remember the Titans, Brian Song and Rudy were much better.

I haven't seen it yet (plan to soon), but it's going to have to be pretty sweet if it wants to replace Rudy as my #1 sports movie. . .

DEHog said "Brian's Song". A tear came to my eye. That movie still chokes me up.

I liked Remember the Titans a lot as well, but as I understand it, it was also very sensationalized. Also, I understand that the real-life Rudy was not a very nice guy, though you wouldn't get that from the movie.

I hope to be able to see Friday Night Lights. I'm not expecting it to be better than the aforementioned classic football movies, I just need it to be batter than The Replacements in order to enjoy it.

From the advertising, I assumed that "Friday Night" was like "Hoosiers Play Football". Is it better than that?

In my own favorite sports movies, the lovable underdogs do not necessarily win the big championship: "Bull Durham", for instance, which teaches that to go to the Show, you have to learn your cliches..."baseball is a simple game etc"

I just saw "Friday Night Lights" over the weekend for the first time, and I really enjoyed it. I think the beginning of the movie was sensationalized; I thought it was "Any Given Sunday: High School Edition," with the drunken parties, sex, etc. (I found it unnecessary, but, of course, they needed to sell the movie).

It was great to see the team pull together, even after losing their best player. Having been raised on feel-good sports movies, the end was totally unexpected. It reminded me of the Rams-Titans SB.

It dealt with some real issues (family illness, alcoholism, etc.) that "plague" today's young players (mini-). After watching it, I immediately proclaimed "I must haves it," like Smigol did the "one ring".

I also "must own" "The Replacements", so that should tell you how much weight my opinion on FNL counts.

I don't know about the best sports movie ever made. "Bull Durham" and "Major League" are the tops on my list. Heck even the hockey movie "Slapshot" is pretty good and I hate hockey. As far as football movies though... it's definitely up there. Right now "The Program" is still tops on that list. For me at least. I still haven't seen the laying down in the middle of the road scene though. Did anyone catch that before they cut it out?

Better yet, anyone know if there is an "uncut" version of the movie?

Redeemed, I just asked a friend of mine who owns the dvd and he said it wasn't uncut. That scene is missing and because it wasn't a huge blockbuster they'll probably never release another version of it. He bought it at Target for $6.

Friday Night Lights is the most god awful movie I've ever seen. IT HAS NO PLOT AT ALL. I HEARD IT WAS THE BEST MOVIE AND WAS SO DISAPPOINTED THAT I TURNED OFF THE DVD 3/4 OF THE WAY THROUGH IT. THIS IS AN AWFUL FILM!

I thought it kind of sucked, too.

I saw it a few months ago. It was on one of my nights off and I fell asleep through parts of it. But what I did see was pretty lame.

Like R4L said, there really was no plot and no scenes. Just video of teennagers being teenagers and some video of football games. It wasn't what I had hoped for.

By the way, the quarterback had no personality or flare and made the movie that much more boring, except when he was getting his ass beat by the 300 pound linemen from Carter.

I gotta say that I really enjoyed Remember the Titans or Rudy. Those are two of my favorite football films. Brians Song is right behind them. This movie doesn't come close.

I don't know why, but I loved this movie.

Sure, there wasn't really a plot, but I guess it's just because I'm young or something.

But yes, Rudy and Remember the Titans are great as well. And I also really like Radio.
