My Peyton Manning Philosophy

Talk about the AFC, NFC, the NFL Draft, College Football... anything football that has no Washington Football Team relevance.

My Peyton Manning Philosophy

Post by Clinton Portis »

I was just thinking today...

Why whenever the Colts go to Foxboro, they lose?

And I figured out why.

Its not the complicated blitzing schemes of the Patriots.
Thats only somewhat what it is.

Now, I'm one of the believers that this year, the Patriots will maybe make a wild-card, or not make the playoffs.

But this isn't about that, its about why Peyton is 0-7 in Foxboro. And I believe that comes down to him and Brady.

Brady (I believe) has that IT factor. The Joe Montana factor. The ability to just make plays, for no said reason. He just CAN. Tom Brady never plays to win, he plays not to lose. Bend but don't break. And thats how the Pats have come so far, so quickly.

Manning on the other hand, I don't believe is an IT quarterback. He's more of a product of studying film and working hard. Nothing wrong with that. He's a great player, but he MADE himself a great player. He studies (according to family and the news) all the time to get better and know all the plays. The reason he's so good is because he's a workaholic. But maybe it goes to say, great Quarterbacks are born not made.

You probaly don't know that until you step out onto the GridIron and make a pass. You either make miracles when it counts, or you just make great plays. Stuff like this really don't filter out until the collegiate or Pro levels.

Alot of people though Akili Smith was gonna be that guy, who made miracles for the Bengals..and he probaly could have. But he was thrown under the bus too early.

I believe Brady has the right enviroment for a successful QB. Where as Brady is a team mate, Peyton is a team leader. The Colts are known for Peyton Manning. The Patriots are known for Teamwork.

Wait, so you're saying that those 49 td passes came from just studying film? Peyton Manning has more god given talent than about 95% of the league. The reason why he loses in foxboro is because his defense sucks.

Yes they did. He made himself good by practice. I'm not saying he's not gifted.

He has an unbelievable work ethic.

Great thread CP! I agree with you 100%.

I'm not taking sides on this debate because Peyton Manning is a great QB. Having said that, I personally don't think that he will ever win a Super Bowl. I was wondering if I'm the only person thinking this about the Colts:

I am tired of the Indy defense constantly being the scapegoat for Peyton not proceeding in the playoffs. What was the score when they lost to New England in the playoffs this year? 20-3 N.E. Isn't this indicative that Peyton Manning's offense was the problem in this crucial, win or go home game? I will take a 20 point performance by such a poor defensive unit any day of the week. The defense has been a problem for the Colts in the past, but I am just sick of hearing how that is the only problem on the Colts. They have lost games to New England over the past several years due to both pathetic defensive AND offensive performances.

Its really a mental thing. I think it really frusterates the whole team in Foxboro. If you look at Peytons face in NE, he looks frusterated or confused.

The Defense for the Colts is pretty good. Not stellar by any means. But they can hold teams. But with the offense so disfunctional in New England, they have to be PERFECT. And thats something that no defense is, ecspecially theirs.

Peyton may make it to a Superbowl, he's a great guy, great player, great motivator. But Peyton, much like McNabb, has to carry the entire team. Unless the Colts Defense shows up (more than just Freeney,Brock), they might never win a Superbowl. But like I mentioned. Brady is a team mate, Peyton IS the team.

P.S

Us, the Redskins are a different story...last year our offense struggled to find an Indentity...we're we dink and dunk? We didn't even know. Who was the QB? Were the WR's Trying? Last year there was no team (except on D), the Offense was a locker room divided, CP had to carry the entire offense...

But this year I solomly believe that we are capable of being a real team. We've deleted Cancers and added class acts (Moss,Patten,Rabach,Broughton,White etc.). If Our Offense can become a real team (i.e Ramsey: Hey Santana, going fishing this weekend? Moss: Yeah man, meet me at 3:00  ) we have a real shot at this thing. Sorry for rambling.

Manning is just a big-game chokejob. Dating back to college. Maybe even high school.

Remember how he could never win a game in Florida?

There, I just provided a better theory

Patriot offense is disfunctional? What? I hate Tom brady, but their offense was rated higher than thweir defense in the stats.

Manning's problem in the 2003 season with the Pats was in the course of the game, Detron Smith and James Mungro were hurt and they were their goal line. So, they got destroyed. Trust me, with Mungro and Smith 100% in there, they win.

Playoffs 2003 was just a game game by Pats defense.

2005 playoffs was they went into the game and the Colts coaching staff crapped themselves in pre game and didn't even ATTEMPT their reguilar offense. I promise you, they would of won if they tried to run their true offense, they would of ripped the Pats.

Peyton, it's called snow; and the Patriots are sorry you can't play when it's not 70 degrees and on fake turf...

I'm gonna have to say I also think its the defense. Payton puts up the numbers, not only that, edge does a great job in getting a first down in crunch time... I cant say enough about harrison, stokley and wayne... so I cant base their entire rivalry on that last playoff game they had... just a bad game, remember the opening game last year? Had edge not of fumbled on the freak'n goal line the colts would have won.... The Pats are a strong all around team... well at they WERE a strong team... but if the Colts manage to assemble a bad ass secondary and start stopping the run a little better, their chances of going to the SB double.
