Chevon Troutman a former Pitt power forward is going to try out for the Redskins soon. He's about 6-6 240 and would probably need to gain a little bit of bulk to be a full time TE...
but lets keep a look out on this guy, he MAY be the next Antonio Gates!

Yes giving someone a "tryout" is always a huge gamble! He might deplete the Gatorade supply for the other players!!
Why would Gibbs make such a high risk move?!?!?!

How would it be a gamble if we saw his skills in camp before we signed him to a league minimum contract?

It cost nothing to take a look. My co-worker went to Pitt and he told me that Troutman was a highly recruited High School football player, he just decided to dedicate his time to basketball. There may be some skills here.

The last thing the Redskins need is a 300 pound manic depressive senior citizen with 2 black belts on the team.

He'd be like the 300 pound Mike Westbrook!!
Look out Portis!

I'm just curiuos with Patrick running some shotgun formations we may switch to the princton offense w/ screens and pick and rolls to the goal line. I like it.
I was just watching Cold Pizza and they were discussing college basketball players who go on to the NFL. They had an old Cowboys GM-type guy who signed one of the first basketball players long ago.
He said that Chevon Troutman was a great prospect and particularly well-suited because he had "very soft hands." He also said that he expected Troutman to be in the NFL next year and thought that the Redskins, or whoever signs him, will be picking up a future star. He complemented the 'Skins a lot on finding Troutman and bringing him into camp.
Troutman is obviously a very intriguing prospect. I wonder if he really could make the team? Before I didn't think so but now I don't know. I'd be interested to see him play. At 6'7" and 240 he seems almost like a Matt Jones type prospect (don't know how fast Troutman is though).
I didn't have much hope that Troutman would make the team. In fact, I thought the idea ridiculous. But what I find even more ridiculous is the fact that they bring him in for one day to catch a few passes and then cut him on that basis. Please don't suggest to me that anybody can make a judgement on a guy that quickly, not considering the circumstances-- no football since HS, no coaching, etc... Are the coaches so keen eyed and expert they can tell how good a player can be by watching him scratch his nuts, no matter his natural ability, size, etc. Did they expect him to show polish in a day. What the devil are the Skins doing? Gibbs even had trouble recalling who he was? Why did they invite him to camp if they weren't going to give him a real shot? The incident does not encourage me.
