I hope you are kidding. Irrefutable?

Statistics? There is no science to the draft. It is common sense that if you have a first round draft pick, you will have a greater liklihood of selecting the player that you have rated as one of the top 32 players. That is obvious. The problem is that the ratings of the players are often innaccurate.

It is ridiculous to think that that team with the most 1st rounders will be the best teams to a mathematic certainty.

I guess Rod Gardner, David Terrell and Charles Rogers, Desmond Howard, Micheal Westbrook etc are better than Terrell Owens, Hines Ward, Mushin Muhammad, Joe Horn, who were drafted in the 4th, 6th, 2nd, and 5th rounds respectively.

This is exactly my point, it's easy to find the exception to the norm But in the end statistics win. Look at the best at each position:

QB: Manning, McNabb, Farve, Brady, Vick. The overwhelming percentage is from the first round.
RB: James, Alexander, Priest, Dillon, Jamal Lewis. Same thing.

This goes on for EVERY position. Of course you can find the exceptions like Brady, and Owens. But for the overwhelmng part the best players are drafted higher.

Hmm Wonker...not to let you down, but you just made a complete fool out of yourself.

Neither Brett Favre or Corey Dillon were drafted in the First round, they were both 2nd rounders. And Priest Holmes was an Undrafted Free Agent. You proved my point...nice debating with you.

Actually Hogster if you look again he didn't say they all were drafted in the first round. He said the overwhelming percentage was drafted in the 1rst round.

He then said

Of course you can find the exceptions like Brady, and Owens. But for the overwhelmng part the best players are drafted higher.

Not defending him, just stating that he didn't say what you said he said.

Even if you interpreted that way...if 2 of the top five backs were not 1st rounders, and one not even drafted, then his logic still fails. 3 of 5 is not an overwhelming percentage...if you include guys like Brian Westbrook, Rudi Johnson, Stephen Davis, then there is not an 'overwheling' percentage of 1st rounders among the league leaders...at every single position...and even still...in today's NFL it is impossible to have the best player at each position...its hard to have the best player at even one position.

You don't need the best player at each position...that would be a Prow Bowl Team..what you need are good players who play well together, and that has less correlation with what round they were all drafted in.

There is one interesting statistic about the hated patriots...they have the highest percentage of players who graudated from college on their roster. Not saying you take brains over braun all the time, but it proves that you need dedicated, smart guys of good character who are also exceptional athletes, there are plenty of those guys who are not 1st rounders, and together they can make an excellent team.
