Unruly 5 year old handcuffed...
On the news I saw a 5 year old lose her mind at school in St. Petersburg Florida, she was pulling paperwork off the bulletin board, jumping up on the table, slapping the Assistant Principle, even doubled up her fist. The child was
screaming and pushing, would not listen to reason. The school called the local police, the child was handcuffed and
leg cuffed because she was kicking also. Now the mother has hired an attorney in order to sue the school.
Your Thoughts?

Heard about this on talk radio. Cracks me up to think a group of school 'professionals' couldn't control a 5-year old (girl-no less) and had to call the law to control her. I guess this is a product of our schools becoming so hamstrung by political correctness and legal constraints. That kid needs a good spankin!
God bless our troops and Joe Gibbs.
We'll miss you, Joe.

Someone call "SuperNanny" or "Nanny 911". Obviously, something is wrong at home, if this five year old is acting up at school. IMO, it is outrageous that the child was shackled like a convicted criminal, but, at the same time, the child should know better. That type of teaching begins in the home. Shame on the parents.
Back and better than ever!

In place of the severe beatings I richly deserved, my parents had a few traumatizing phrases they used.
"I wish your real parents would come back."
"Knock it off of we'll send you to live with the gypsies."
"Your brother Timmy did did that once. Oh that's right, you don't remember Timmy."
"I can make another one that looks just like you."
"Go and call them. They'll take you away and I'll still be here."

I got your number. I steal your thunder. I got your mother's maiden name tattooed on my arm.

wow some of you guys just really know how to get away for the issue
a 5 year old child was put in handcuffs, and some of you act like just because she was unruly she deserved it. knowing that if that happened to your child you would be just as outraged as this mother is.
these are professional people and no one could handle her, these are teachers that deserved to be paid much much more for the great power they posses.
a wise man once said "with great power comes great responsibility"
a responsible teacher and nuturer of children would never have done that to a five year old child

I wouldn't have put my hands on that little girl. If you so much as sneeze on her most parents would be trying to sue you for abuse. I dont blame them for calling the authorities. I probally would have called her parents and had them get her before calling the cops.
Teachers deal with enough regular BS and dont need stupid crap like this happening. This isnt a one time deal she's pulling that crap at home too.
She's one of those children you see in the store and it makes you think "my mother would have layed me out if I even thought about acting up like that!". All my mother had to say was "Dont make me tell your father...". LOL.

you dont know what the situation was that set that little girl off, none of us do. shoot for all you know she could be one of those kids that get picked on by others all her life and try to tell adults and they never listen to her. then in high school she comes in and starts blasting away

Or she could just be spoiled. You dont know anything more than any of us. To go around slapping people is unacceptable in my house hold. I've been pissed off in school. I was teased sometimes. I was seriously embarassed at school. I wasn't popular until highschool! Did I slap people? No. My parents actually raised me and thats not being done in todays society. Im not reffering to this situation specifically but it does apply.
At 5 years old I knew that I wasn't supposed to slap people, she's not retarded.

DO YOU HAVE ANY KIDS CHRIS?

No, but Im not too far removed from being one. I do have a Godson that I look after all the time and neither I or his parents would accept such behaviour from him. Things like that imo don't just happen thats a behaviour that has been accepeted by her parents. Thats just my opinion, not fact.

I've got 2 (soon to be 3) boys... and if any of them were hitting an adult, other than to flee from one trying to hurt them... I wouldn't mind them being handcuffed and shown what not being respectful can lead to...

godson hardly qualifies or even puts you close to the situation. having a godson is not like having a child , i dont care what anyone says. it is easy for people to talk about a situation and say what should happen, it all seems so easy until it happens to you.
lets say you godson was 5 and had something he was trying to get out or a thought they were trying to convey and could not do so properly and began to get frustrated because some adult that had been dealing with 30 or more 5 year olds all day and did not have the patience to properly listen. boom they call the cops because your 5 year old was throwing a tatrum. bro i bet you would be having a fit

I agree 100% My father would try to reason with me, and when they didn't work...there were consequences. He taught me right and wrong, and that doing the wrong thing involved serious consequences.
I should have played highschool football longer than I did but my grades weren't right so he told me know. A lot of children aren't given rules and boundaries.
Im sorry sometimes talking to a child isn't enough, you gotta give some hard love. You didn't see all this weird and crazy stuff when our parents were growing up. They didn't have all this don't spank craziness. I understand that some peolpe take it too far and that it can lead to abuse and Im sorry about that, my heart goes out to those children. I know that if my kid ever needs a spanking Ill be there to administer it because I want him/her to make it to adulthood.

1st off all lets, kill this right here before it ends up in the smack forum. You dont know me, or my relationship to my Godson. For all you know I could be caring for him more than his parents. Don't speak about something you know nothing about.
2nd of all frustration doesn't warrant a child to smack anyone else! If you feel that the kid was right to smack those adults then Im glad I dont have any children in school with your kids.
Under no circumstances is it right to lay your hands on anybody else. If that kid was in highschool they'd be expelled and I wouldn't feel sorry for them. Nobody did anything to that child to deserve to be slapped. Now since this kid is 5 I think expulsion is a bit excessive but that child does need counseling if she believes thats the way to deal with her anger.
I was frustrated 90% of the time in the Baltimore City public school system and I never hit anybody.

chris all i am saying is that none of us know how we will react to a situation that we have never been confronted with.
we all speculate about the little girls behavior, but none of us know what really happened and none of us know how we would react if that happend to our 5 year old.

I do know how I'd react. If I got a call from a teacher saying that my child started slapping people because he/she was frustrated, my kid better be praying for the cops to come.

My parents and grandparents used to tell me that back in the day you'd get a whuppin from whoever saw you doing wrong, and that person would call your parents and you'd get a whuppin at home too. I know things are different nowadays though with all the crazy folk running around.
