What are the chances we will sign Hakim since he was just let go from the Lions?

Why would we want him? We have:

Moss, Gardner, Patten, Thrash, Jacobs, McCants...

just tossing it out there to question possibility. he is only 27 years old and was a pretty good #3 with the rams. Maybe the lions were a bad fit. Also maybe could release gardner if we get him for a lower cost and save that 2M of cap space

Hakim did only have 31 receptions but he averaged over 17 ypc and averages over 13 for his career to date. Not too shabby.

I think it would be a greta pick up, we don't know for sure if Gardener is coming back, and Moss is holding out..if we sign Az Hakim..it would light a fire under Moss and may be he'd come to camp....we could also use him as a PR/KR/Special-Teamer...I liked him when he played for the Rams....and in a game against us last year, he had 7 receptions for 120 yards...

Exactly!! Plus, a model character guy and a hard worker. Hell my philosophy right now with our receivers is to toss as much stuff against the wall and see what sticks and what doesnt. Doesnt hurt to tender him an offer as im sure he wont be commanding a huge salary.

Man please...and you all think 50/50 cannot catch! Hakim is worse!!!

Michaelf382 - profanity (even replaced with characters) is not aloud per board rules... your post was edited... thanks for understanding...

and I say no on Hakim... we've got plenty of depth at WR... especially if 50/50 is back next year.. :(

What's the difference in signing Az, rather than drafting a rookie..all of ya'll wanted Braylon Edwards or Mike Williams(who haven't proved themselves yet) and yet you don't want a vet who played a big part in the Rams' Super Bowl Championship...I hope we do sign him and get rid of Rod Gardener..

Bringthepain,

apologies for the profane word. Got caught up in the moment.

All, I still think this pickup would be a sweet deal for us. Add a vet like thrash and both of them can return P/K and do a sweet job as #3 and 4 receivers. We are losing Garner anyway next year so why not try to get someone who will produce as much, if not more, and be a better locker room presense and possibly help get the best out in Jacobs and turn McCants into a McCAN!.

Plus the dude has legit SPEED!! 3 wide receivers fast as lightening. Have them running every which way on the field and defenses got themselves some headaches. U know one of them will break coverage at least.

I don't think we will go after him. I wouldn't be surprised to see him end up back on the Rams, as a friend of my suggested. He left for a big payday, didn't live up to it, and now he'll go somewhere else for less.

Yes but the rams arent the same team they were 3 years ago either. So why go back to place where QB is different and a good portion of the people u played with gone. For dirt cheap, id take him and see what he could do.

Also you say, he went for a big payday and didnt produce. Other than Williams doing decent last year, who has produced in Detroit in the past 4 years? Could be the system not the person ala he shined on the best show on turf and that system.

I think a return to the Rams would be a good situation for Hakim. The slot reciever spot he played has never been the same for them since he left. Its still the same system that he ran when he was there.

Besides, what do we do? Trade Hakim for Gardner? The Lions got rid of Hakim because their receiving corps should be the best in the league. They don't need Gardner, and hopefully, we don't need Hakim.

Well, they apparently already released Hakim, so a trade couldn't happen.

I'd think that Hasim Rahman might make a decent DE, or TE but I'm quite certain that he doesn't have the footspeed to be a WR!

He'd be a good pass blocker....You should see the way that he can sit there and just absorb punishment.

No, please no. No offense to Hakim but we have plenty decent receivers that deserve a legitimate chance: McCants and Jacobs first and foremost.

We don't have a legit #1 receiver. Santansa Moss was going to be the Jets #3, David Patten was a #3 in New England, McCants couldn't get on the field last year, Taylor Jacobs has done nothing, we can't give Gardner away and Thrash is really no better that a #4/specials teams player. We don't have a single guy who can catch balls over the middle or in the end zone. Last thing we need to do is bring in yet another smallish, unproductive #3 who's afraid of the middle as well.

Nasty - Hakim isn't a #1 either. As much as I dislike our WR corps, Hakim really isn't an upgrade IMHO.

The smallish, unproductive #3 who's afraid of the middle being Hakim. [/quote]
