We didnt take Mike Williams Because...

Post by Clinton Portis »

We're stuck with Rod Gardner.

So if you want to blame someone for not getting MW, its Rod.

If we had just traded him, we would have got Mike. But Alas...no one wants 50/50. So we're stuck with him.

Man Rod..WHY!? WHY ROD WHY!???

Dude I can pretty much guarantee you that Rod Gardner had nothing to do with us taking Mike Williams. Gibbs and Co. probably just thought Patten and Moss at reciever was better than having Springs and Harris at corner. Regardless im upset that we couldnt get anything for RG

I wish everyone would relax. Rogers was the way to go. If we hadnt drafted a corner guess what?? Defense would look like the pukes of last year. Williams attack scheme is built around corners who can cover one on one.

Not only that but Carlos Rogers closest NFL comparison is Antoine Winfield...who is Williams favorite CB! Um... uh...after Shawn Springs of course.

The Redskins may not have taken who I wanted, but I'm not going to jump ship. If anyone else does....go right ahead! I have faith that we will find an impact TE or Lineman on the Second day!

What if we got williams at #9 and a corner at #25. There were still good DB's left at that spot.

Imagine the Skins in the red zone w/ M. Williams 6-5 at one side, D-Mac at 6-5 at the other side, Cooley at TE and Clinton in the backfield. Who can you stop?

there weren't very good corners left at 25, and they are gonna have just as much trouble stopping us as is.

Chad this is why I like you. No jumping ship here either. You guys are really making me feel the need to go away for a while. It's the draft. Our entire team does not hinge on our draft picks. Just as an example can anyone tell me who the Patriots drafted last year? CHances are if you aren't Jake you can't!

They drafted Vince Wilfork....He was my favorite player in last years draft....but I wasnt' at all upset that we picked Talyor instead.

Thanks for the compliment...I was breifly ticked that we passed on Mike Williams, Heath Miller and Dan Cody...but then I go over it.

Williams is going to be a very good WR. Rogers is going to be a very good CB. There's no point in sweating the woulda-coulda-shouldas anymore. Rogers is a Skin, and will have the priveledge of learning from the best D-coord. in the league! period.

There are still 4 months of offseason left. There is still a chance we get rid of him for a later pick, another player, or a future pick.

I'm still not sold on Williams fleetus. Merril Hoge says he's gonna be a bust in the NFL because he won't be able to get seperation. The more I learn about Williams, the more he reminds me of Moss. The difference is that Moss has blazing speed and Williams doesn't. If Williams really dedicates himself, and I mean Rice like dedication, then he could be very special, but he seems too lazy, much like Moss, to be a good NFL receiver. That's my view of him anyway. I was pretty happy when we didn't take him.

I woulda been more disappointed if Troy Williamson was there and we didn't take him, but luckily for me, Minny took him lol.

I would have liked to have seen us trade down a few spots, pick up a 2nd or 3rd rounder and still get Rogers, but there didn't seem to be any suitors...

Williams is going to be a beast in the NFL. He was a one man wrecking crew in college. 4.55 is fast enough when you are 6'5" tall and can catch. He is going to be a star.

Ive been thinking about our first round picks all last night and I'm really no longer upset about taking Rogers over Williams. The fact is that all these Auburn kids have proven they know how to win, they put the team before themselves as individuals, and they shutup and play football whereas someone like Mike Williams might have developed into one of those "me-first" type players (but then again the best two NFL wideouts are headcases; TO and Moss). Regardless Im starting to like Rogers as our pick because he has great height and build at CB and we have a knack for drafting good DB's (Darrell Green, Champ Bailey, Fred Smoot, Sean Taylor, etc.)... As for jumping ship, no real Redskins fan could ever even think about doing that. I'm with this team till the end. Go Skins!

NFL DBs are 10 times as good as the guys he faced in college. If he becomes a workout warrior he will be a star. I question whether he has the drive to do that. That's my only concern with him. Guess we'll find out one way or the other in the next few years...

This is the easiest question on this board to answer!
We didnt take Mike Williams Because...
Joe Gibbs thought Carlos Rogers was a better player for the Radskins.

If you don't trust in Joe, you're going to have a very unhappy time as a Skins fan, IMHO. Joe and the scouting dept. have way more evaluation information and insight on Williams and Rogers than any of us do. Time to accept it.
