Wow I cannot handle this crap. You people really think you could do better?? Your picks could be total busts. And how the hell do you know Gibbs isn't waiting until cap casualties start falling after the draft to grab a DE? I am really getting sick of people complaining about every damned pick. Is there one pick that makes everyone here happy yet???

None of the DE's would help pressure the QB. They would just be more depth. The guy we took in the sixth adds depth to a thin position and could help immediately on special teams.

Here is some info on our newest pick, Jared Newberry:

Good call. I'll be at work but I think that's who we will go after if he's available with the 7th.

From nfldraftcountdown.com:

Jared Newberry
College: Stanford
Position: Outside Linebacker
Class: Senior
Height: 6-1 1/8
Weight: 234
40-Yard: 4.75

Strengths: Excellent athletic ability...Has a non-stop motor and is seemingly all over the field...Does a nice job in coverage...A gamer and was very productive...Team leader and captain.
Weaknesses: Undersized for the pro game...Needs to add bulk and get stronger...Struggles when forced to take on blocks...May need to have a couple of big tackles in front to allow him to roam and make plays.
Notes: Doesn't have the physical tools you look for but could succeed in the right scheme...Could project as a nice backup and special teams player at the next level.
5 in a row or we don't go!

Here ya go! [link]http://www.nfl.com/draft/profiles/2005/newberry_jared[/link]

Newberry is a highly intelligent athlete with quick read-and-diagnose skills. He comes from a sports-oriented family: His grandfather Richard and two great uncles (Jimmy Lee and Henry) played professional baseball in the Negro Leagues. He is a two-year starter at the strong-side outside linebacker position, having made the successful switch there after playing fullback as a freshman.

The prep-school choir member used those scholarships to attend Stanford as a walk-on. He redshirted as a freshman, performing on the scout team as an inside linebacker. He appeared in 10 games in 2001, seeing action mostly on special teams while serving as a reserve fullback, totaling a pair of tackles and two carries for 19 yards with a touchdown.

Newberry shifted to outside linebacker in 2002. He started three games and ranked fourth on the team with 45 tackles (29 solos) with three sacks, a fumble recovery, an interception and three pass break-ups. He took over strong-side linebacker duties the following year, ranking second on the squad with 67 tackles (40 solos), including three sacks, 9½ stops for losses, three forced fumbles, an interception and seven pass deflections.

He continued as a starter in 2004, but saw his production drastically decrease, finishing eighth on the squad with 45 tackles (32 solos). He managed only an assisted sack, nine stops for losses, an interception and three pass break-ups. Newberry would finish his career with 159 tackles (103 solos), 6½ sacks for minus-42 yards and 23½ stops for losses of 92 yards. He recovered and caused three fumbles, intercepted three passes for 28 yards in returns and deflected 14 passes. He also gained 17 yards with a touchdown on three carries while playing fullback.

Could Manuel White be moved to TE...why have him backup Cooley when he can start at TE, he does have some blocking ability as a fb, and speed, and if he has hands then why not?

It's silly to get upset when they don't pick who you want. All we do is read reporte on the internet. These reports vary greatly from one site to the next, especially when you're talking about 2nd day picks. Gibss has a full scouting staff at his disposal. He saw these guys on tape, at the combine and in personal interviews and workouts. What does anybody on this site have to compare to that? So you have to trust that the coaches had a good reason for these picks. It isn't fantasy football.

Wow....I can't see that there's any reason for an outburst like that. I certainly don't derive personal "happiness" from anything my favorite football team does or doesn't do. I'm here to participate in discussion regarding the draft and perceived team needs. I certainly didn't come for emotional outbursts and personal attacks.

Sorry absinthe, see the talking smack forum and you'll understand why everyone is a little touchy about things. If it was my post that seemed like a personal attack on you I'm sorry. I just am very frustrated with the comments people are making on this draft.

Strengths: Has an intriguing combination of size, strength and top-end speed. Is a workhorse-type RB. Shows adequate-to-good initial burst to the hole. Has good speed for his size. Is a powerful runner with excellent upper and lower body strength. Runs with good pad level, keeps his legs driving and falls forward. He has the size and strength to develop into a very good blocker in the NFL -- benched 225 pounds for 24 reps. Shows good initial pop at the POA. Has good awareness as a pass blocker and was very efficient in that area at the collegiate level. He shows soft hands and has some decent experience as a receiver out of the backfield. Can be a load to bring down in space after the catch.

Weaknesses: Is a 'tweener RB/FB. Has good speed for his size but below average speed for a fulltime RB. Lacks elusiveness and COD skills as a runner. Won't make many defenders miss in space. Lacks the speed to turn the corner consistently in the NFL and doesn't show breakaway speed in daylight. Has stiff hips and is not very flexible. Lacks experience as a blocker. Needs to improve his leverage as a blocker and also has a lot of work to do in terms of learning angles and hand-placement. Has soft hands but upper body is stiff, so he struggles to adjust to poorly thrown ball. Is not a threat as a route runner and doesn't have great elusiveness or explosiveness after the catch. Will look to run over defenders not around them. Durability was a problem throughout the first three seasons in college.

Overall: Broughton suffered a partial tear in his left ACL in high school and re-injured it at The Citadel in 2001. He played in just eight games that season. In 2002, Broughton started seven of the 12 games he played in. As a junior in 2003, he started all eight games he played in but missed the final two because of injury. As a senior in 2004, he finished with 788 yards and five touchdowns on 179 carries and did not miss any time because of injury. Broughton was a load-carrying running back in college who may need to make the transition to fullback in the NFL. He worked out as a running back at the combine but as a fullback at the Senior Bowl, where he showed good athletic ability for his size and above average power but was understandably unpolished as a blocker. In our opinion, Broughton has a good enough combination of size, strength, speed and athletic ability to take a chance on somewhere in the middle of Day 2. In our opinion, he has the most upside of any prospect in the 2005 fullback class. He is a hard worker with upside on special teams, the size to develop into an adequate lead blocker and the physical tools to contribute as a situational short-yardage runner and receiver.
