Anybody watched an Auburn game last year???

Four Auburn players were selected in the 1st round.
The Redskins selected two of them.

If you have watched one or more Auburn game (either
in person or on TV) in 2004, please offer your opinion
of Campbell, Rogers, Brown, and/or Williams.

I watched several of the Auburn games. I came away very impressed with Cadillac and Ronnie Brown, but honestly didn't even notice Rogers or Campbell on the field that much. From what I remember of Campbell, he looked accurate with decent, but not great arm strenght. Some mobility but he had good pass protection so he didn't have to scramble that much. It was hard to gauge how good he was because teams were always stacking the box to try to stop their running attack. To be honest, I didn't even notice Rogers and therfore cant really offer anything on him.

I go to a school in the SEC, the one with the second reciever overall drafted from it, and I pay attention to all the SEC teams, plus Auburn has always been a favorite of mine. Carlos Rogers will fit perfectly in our defense. He is physical and he shut down the entire side of the field he was on. My only knock on him is not getting many INTs. Jason Campbell is good, and after a year he will be NFL ready. He is mobile, moves well in the pocket and can make all the throws. Ramsey has a cannon, but Campbell will more easily develop into a complete QB. The wonderlic isn't always indicative of a players field smarts and this is the case with Campbell. He would have been one of the great SEC QBs had he had the same cooridinator for four years. He really showed his ability to handle pressure last year as well. Ronnie Brown is going to be good and so is Cadillac. I would have killed to have either of them at South Carolina. Cadillac has the better field vision, but Brown is much more powerful. Cadillac is exceptional at making people miss though. He reminds me of Emmitt Smith in that reguard. If he stays healthy he will be great in the NFL. Thats my opinion on the Auburn guys. It doesn't hurt that they came out of the toughest conference in College football either.

i think the perception of campbell is a little off. not being rude just see it differently. i feel that he has tremendous accuracy and he has a cannon. he can really throw the hell out of it, but he had to throw a lot of touch passes in that offense. i feel the biggest miss conception of him is that he runs well. i think he is fast but he is goofy and if people remember a couple of years ago when he got nervous and ran there was usually a fumble on the way.

It's very difficult for me to judge the quality of our
draft picks since I haven't watched many college games.

I have this nagging feeling that many on this board, like
myself, do not watch many college games but based their
opinion on the so-called gurus ... who themselves don't
watch many games but based their opinion on sources around
the NFL.

Auburn is in the ACC?

I only saw Auburn play in the Sugar Bowl, but here is my opinion:

Rodgers - I was VERY impressed with Rodgers. I saw the other top two corners (Jones, Rolle) play last season and IMHO Rodgers is the best of the three. He was very good in coverage and against the run. Rolle is big, but I think he might be a little slow for corner in the NFL. Pac Man is a great player, but he was in WVU's gimmicky defense, and often times I felyt like he just sat back and played center field.

Campbell - Gigantic QB with a strong arm, but not very mobile and scored really low on the Wonderlic. I think he is a few years away. I wasn't nuts about this pick given our lack of 2nd and 3rd round picks, and a first next year. I think we should've selected a player that could contribute right away.

Auburn is in the SEC. THis year, they massacred Arkansas and my friend and I left the room after about two minutes when Auburn was already up like 21-0 in three minutes, it seemed. He completed 17 of 19 passes for 297 yards and three touchdowns highlighted by a 67-yard score to Devin Aromashodu. He tore up teams if he got on even the slightest groove.

Thank God, now Dave Wommack has been FIRED and went to South Carolina to screw them up. We now have Reggie Herring, who can have the point argued that he is the best DC in the country after last year.

Have fun with Wommack, C'field. Now the Razorbacks have someone else to lead the "Code Red" Defense.

I go to University of Tennessee and we played auburn twice this year, and I got a good look at both players. Rogers is phenomenal. He hits hard and he can run. There defense was awesome and he was the catalyst. Jason Campbell absolutely killed us in both games we played. Teams would key on in brown and williams and it gave Campbell an opportunity to make plays. He makes good decisions, and he has a good arm. Not to mention that he is a pretty big guy. Both guys are winners, and I see these picks, especially the rogers one as very good.

I don;t really know about Cambell, but what really impresses me about Rogers is that teams were scared to throw near him. In the VT game, Randall never really looked to that side of the feild. He seems to (have had in college) a Deon/Green effect... where QBs dont want to throw to that side of the feild.

I graduated from Auburn and I have followed all 4 players players careers. I think that Gibbs made good picks, as he builds his Redskin TEAM. I'm going to focus on the Redskins, but I'll give you my opinion about all of them.

Jason Campbell
Parade All-American coming out of highschool. Auburn had 4 different offensive coordinators at during Jason's career. As a redshirt junior, Campbell suffered under Hugh Nall, an offensive coordinator that was promoted from offensive line coach after Bobby Petrino left (and later demoted back to the line). The last offensive coordinator, Al Borges, put it together and used player talent well. He had a balanced attack, and he gradually added plays as the season went along. Borges' greatest achievement imo was instilling confidence in Campbell and encouraging him to throw downfield. Campbell made key reads and audibles, and then broke the backs of opponents with well executed passing. Cambell's statistics were understated, as Auburn would jump out to big leads fast and then sit on the ball with their running game and run out the clock. Auburn had an awesome group of senior leaders, not just the 4 first rounders, and Campbell was the glue that really held this team together. Campbell was given much of the credit to this team's undefeated season by his coaches and other players, and rightfully so. He took control of this team in the summer, motivating the rest of the team to work hard and they really gelled as a team. Campbell is a team player who showed tremendous heart and ability in the best season Auburn has ever had. He has faced tough teams, tough fans, and adversity and came out a winner.

Carlos Rogers
Rogers developed from a talented player with potential into a Thorpe Award winner his senior year. As a senior he played with tremendous confidence and showed great leadership on a fast, talented defense. Rogers showed the ability to shutdown his side of the field. He has speed, size and makes good reads. Most teams didn't bother to challenge Rogers, and when they did, he made them pay. Rogers had the chance to leave for the NFL last year as a 2nd or 3rd round pick and stayed on to help his team. Rogers anchored a defense that ranked 5th nationally in total defense, 10th in passing defense, and 1st in scoring defense with 11.3 pts per game. Rogers faced talented wide receivers and quarterbacks.

Carnell "Cadillac" Williames
Williams was another heralded prospect coming out of highschool. He is a quick, shifty back that reminds me of Walter Payton. Williams was another key to Auburn's winning season, with his leadership, work-ethic, and charisma. Williams was Carlos Rogers' roommate. He is a fiery competitor that enjoys challenges and seeks to put the game on his shoulders. He is a tremendous team player, extremely unselfish. Williams had the opportunity to leave for the draft as a junior and chose to stay with his team. A legitimate Heisman candidate, Williams unselfishly shared the backfield with Ronnie Brown.

Ronnie Brown
Brown came to Auburn as another highly-touted prospect. He redshirted as a freshman, behind Rudi Johnson (Cinncinati Bengals). Through most of his career, Brown stood in the shadow of Williams. Auburn Offensive Coordinator Al Borges made a concerted effort to get Brown on the field as much as possible last season, lining him up in a fullback, tailback, and often as a wide receiver. Brown is the total package, with size, speed, and soft hands. Jason Campbell was his roommate at Auburn. Brown had the opportunity to leave for the NFL after his junior season and chose to stay and help the team. A legitimate Heisman candidate, Brown unselfishly shared the backfield with Carnell Williams.

As an Auburn fan, 2004 was a blessing. Although AU was screwed by the BCS, it was a season to remember. The 4 seniors who went in the 1st round were a huge part of the team's success. They showed leadership and unselfishness and all of them benefited by coming back for their senior year. As a life-long Redskin fan, I'm very happy we got 2 of them!

I watched almost every Auburn game....us gambling degenerates tend to watch a LOT of football.

I thought Rogers was great, I would call it a tossup between him and Rolle for best secondary player in America last year. He was very physical and teams were afraid to throw his way. He's not as good an athlete as Champ was coming out of college, but his coverage skills are similar. I was a huge fan of Freddie Smoot and I was heartbroken when he left. However, the fact of the matter is that Rogers is a better fit for the defense Gregg Williams plays than Smootie was. I really believe that he is going to be a Pro Bowl corner for us. I also love the fact that he comes to us from the SEC. Don't listen to the media hype about the Big 12, the SEC is the best conference in America, with the Big 10 second.

As for Campbell, he never really stood out in games because the defense was so good and because the running game was so impressive. But whenever Auburn needed a play, he made it. (see: the LSU game) He throws a very accurate ball, he moves better than any QB the Redskins have had in recent memory, and he has the prototypical size teams crave in an NFL QB. He also has the poise you need to succeed in the NFL, something that Patrick Ramsey does not appear to have. I don't see Campbell being a McNabb like player going to Pro Bowls every year, but I do see him being the franchise QB we have been searching for. The guy is smart, he is poised, and he is a winner.

Another interesting note...In 2000 when Jason Campbell came out he was ranked 2nd behind Brock Berlin. When he came out of highschool the expectations were very high, as if he was Auburn's next messiah. He had some difficulty and faced alot of adversity up until the LSU game his senior year when he lead the comeback against the 2004 BCS champions. After that it was as if the weight were lifted off his shoulders and he became a real weapon. I've always liked him, I just wish he'd had coordinators that could take advantage of his gifts. Now he has the best mentor a quarterback can have and he has time to develop into a great player. He has an opportunity to shine, I hope he makes the most of it and wins many games for us.

All I can say about the Auburn Redskins obtained is AUsome.

Jason Campbell is the most intelligent, quick-thinking, and agile quarterback I've ever seen. It doesn't matter how much pressure is in the pocket-he is unphased. You can tell when the play he was planning did not work out, but he ALWAYS finds another play and makes it happen, even if he has to run it in himself, which he does with speed and grace.

Even if this sounds like a Jason Campbell commercial, it is because I have watched countless Auburn games in awe of how he rises above the heat and the pressure, and makes good things happen even when you least expect it. He is dependable, strong, and humble, just like his new coach. I think Skins fans will be completely and pleasantly amazed this season with this draft choice.

For quite awhile we've joked about The NY Jets being our minor league team, and we could just call players up (and in the Coles case, send them down).
Maybe we've found our farm team.... The 2004 AU Tigers could have given the Jets a run :hmm:
