Big News!
The Cards released Jeff Blake! I posted this because if he settles for a backup role in the league, I wouldn't mind taking him. But if we don't, I will still be satisfied if Gibbs will (but probably won't) keep Gibby and Hasselbeck on the roster.
So I guess the Cards will pick Rothlisberger (I don't know how you spell that kind of name). Well, since he was released from the staring qb job with the CARDINALS, he won't be asked to be a starter anywhere else anytime soon.

he's got a great arm, and a bit of a scrambling ability. he's got an arm that joe would like. i'd love to see him a skin. he can throw about 78 yds..... or at least he could at ECU. was one of the strongest arms in school history.

we aren't going to find a "great" back up. if a guy is good enuff too start in this league, thats what he'll want to do. and there are plenty of openings. personally, i'd rather have warner(if the rams dump him) than brunell. but, he too, is good enuff to start, and will find work elsewhere. arz might dump jeff blake, and he has a hell of an arm too. would be cheap as well, and has been in the league for about 10 years.

I hate it fo Blake because he is INMO starter material. He almost took the Ravens to the playoffs year before last and didnt because of the dropped passes againts the Steelers. He also was nice before he broke his leg. The Saints were finally starting to win before the accident. He also made some nice passes to the Rookie of the year this pass season.
Jake when you mention Brunell and Warner you are talking about major money.

Oh my bad Jake.
Yeah....Those two still have to prove themselves as starters though.

no one said he was "great". i said the guy has an arm, which gibbs likes. we could do much worse at backup. i don't mind TH hangin around, but from the press, joe wants an experienced back up. teams can't have top starters and backups with the cap in place, but i suppose you have better suggestions???There's no way I'd feel comfortable with the "great" Jeff Blake as back-up. We can do a heck of a lot better.

I heard Denny Green on ESPN Radio two days ago, and he talked about how much he and his new staff love Scott McCown, or however you spell #10's name...
He said that he is going to be a "PRO BOWL TYPE PLAYER ONE DAY" and that he hopes it is with the Cardinals. He then went on to say that the Bengals weren't wrong by taking Carson Palmer with a formidbale Kitna, cuz early on you take the best propects...
What does that mean... Your guess is as good as mines...

That doesn't mean anything. They will still take Ben from Miami of Ohio (I'm sick of saying his last name, so I'm just calling him Ben.) Josh McCown isn't a starting caliber QB and has had only one standout game. I just don't see how they're gonna make McCown their regular season starter.

wysocki, we are talking about a backup here, right? ramsey is the starter. but, joe said he'd like to have a veteran qb backup. with the cash we have available, we aren't going to get peyton manning as our backupOK 666, bring on Blake...come to think of it I probably questioned Joe when he brought in Doug Williams off the scrap heap in the '80s. A long interception is sometimes just as good as a punt anyway...

Hey 666 - I compared Blake to Doug Williams didn't I? I'm just having some fun - BECAUSE IT IS ABOUT THE BACKUP QB. I haven't followed Blake very much but he IS a journeyman (why?) and when I think of him I picture a hard-throwing passer with no touch who loves to throw the bomb (ala Jeff George). No question that is a good TD/INT ratio that Blake has so bring him on. Maybe he can be a holder for Hall - and every field goal we'll have the threat of a fake!

you answered your own question my man. my only knock is that 56% completion rate he has. the guy makes overall pretty good decisions out there, but those passes thrown at a gazillion miles per hour are kinda hard to hold onto at times. the deep ball is his strength.(now you now why boldin caught so many long balls, and made the pro bowlI haven't followed Blake very much but he IS a journeyman (why?) and when I think of him I picture a hard-throwing passer with no touch who loves to throw the bomb (ala Jeff George).

So Blake made a WR ROY, and a TEAM that is drafting 2nd...look, I don't want him so we disagree. If he makes my team - great - he'll be a Redskin and I'll support him. But I'm not going to celebrate the day he signs. If and when he does you can be sure I'll be trading a few comments with you!
you, you, tarheel...I've got bigger fish to fry - the draft, TEs, RBs, DL, DBs

I think he'd be a good pickup. I don't think we need a great QB. A lot of the QBs we won with weren't that great QB-wise. If you give an average QB a lot of time to throw, he'll usually complete the pass. The defense can only cover for so long (heh, one our problems I think since opposing QBs had all day to throw and b/c of that we made average and struggling QBs look like pro-bowl QBs).
