You signed the contract!!!
ESPN reports...
"Owens, who helped lead the Eagles to the Super Bowl in his first season in Philadelphia, is looking to renegotiate the seven-year deal worth almost $49 million he signed last March.
"This is not about me being greedy or selfish,… Just take a moment and look at my stature in the game."
Owens fired longtime agent David Joseph and hired Drew Rosenhaus, who met with Eagles president Joe Banner last week.
"The NFL got him out of the trade [to Baltimore]," Rosenhaus said. "They brokered a deal to the Eagles, but he had to take a sub-standard deal because he had no leverage."
"Everyone knows my former agent settled for a low-ball number because of my situation last season …"
"They used their leverage to strong-arm us because they knew I wanted to leave Baltimore for Philadelphia, and they capitalized on it. I can't go for that now. It's not in me to do that."
Eagles defensive end Hugh Douglas told ESPN Radio on Thursday night that he disagreed with Owens' desire to have his contact re-negotiated.
"I don't agree with [re-negotiating a contract] because I believe that when you sign a contract your bound by that contract," Douglas said. "He's doing what he feels he needs to do, but I do believe that if you sign a contract you should honor that contract whatever circumstances you signed it under."
"I know I'm a top player in the game, and my current contract doesn't justify that," Owens said. "The fact that I signed this contract, that I'm under contract, doesn't factor into anything when it comes to the National Football League. [The Eagles] can cut me anytime they want to -- even if I'm performing well, I'm healthy and I'm putting up numbers, just because they don't want to pay a player that money.
"If they can do what's best for their financial future, then why can't I?"
Rosenhaus echoed Owens' comments, pointing to teams' ability to part ways with players despite signing them to long-term contracts."He was nothing short of remarkable last year with the Eagles," Rosenhaus told Patrick. "He absolutely outperformed his deal. I've had many players ... [who] have been cut when they underperformed despite having just did a multi-year deal the year before like Hugh Douglas with the Jaguars."
...this brings so many thoughts to mind...
Contracts mean nothing in the NFL anymore... everytime I hear about one of these guys whining about their contract, their complaint is that nothing is guarenteed and they could be cut anytime. Didn't they know that before they signed the contract? Why does it become a revelation only after they sign the contract, and cash in the signing bonus? What's up with Drew Rosenholdout? Are he and Owens really afraid Owens will be cut? And why is he using Hugh Douglas as an example, when Hugh Douglas is saying a player should honor the contract, no matter the circumstances... with this kind of "contracts are made to be broken" mindset, we may never see Sean Taylor in uniform again...

You know as well as everyone else that he deserves a better contract than the one he currently has.
TO is a beast and I much respect after seeing this guy in the Superbowl.
Sean Taylor is a must sign. Phili has shown the same results with or without TO.

He was in a bad situation with his former agent, with missing the Free Agent filing deadline and the whole Baltimore fiasco.
I understand this argument that he signed that deal under duress, and perhaps they should restructure his deal with more incentives.
This just proves that Gibbs is a quality guy. If you think back to how San Fran didn't care where T.O wanted to play, they just shipped him out.
Gibbs actually accomodated Coles, the toe, and sent him to the team he wanted to play for, the jets. That shows a lot of character.

Should this thread be in the "Around the League" forum?
It might just end in Smack though. I for one rejoice in the drama, ridicule, and irony of this situation. Go ahead TO! Show us what you are made of! Not that we did not know...

Daniel Snyder has defined incompetence, failure and greed to true Washington Redskins fans for over a decade and a half. Stay away from football operations !!!

"He's a playmaker, that's his label. They used to have strong safeties, but now they got another position: They're called playmakers." -Terence Newman on Roy Williams
T.O. also said that he's doing this to help out his family, too.
BS!
I've seen his house on Cribs and he doesn't need any more money! He doesn't understand that football is a game and that he gets paid MILLIONS of dollars to do what he does.

Nice! You go Skippy

Jansen on his broken thumbs:
"It’s limited me in some ways but has been beneficial in others. It’s like I have a couple of clubs on my hands. I just have to hit people with them."

Don't forget, his agent is the same one ST has. It's not just a Philly/T.O problem, it's Rosenhaus. If need be, the Eagles can get by (they have before), there are rumors of trading up into the top 5/6 in the draft, so they could get a WR to replace T.O if need be. Rosenhaus is not just luring T.O into this kind of stuff, he is doing it to ALOT of key guys on alot of teams. This ST/T.O situation is potentionally bad for everyone, if they get what they want, what does it say to all of the other big name players?

In all honesty, TO is the least of Philly's problems right now. In no particular order, but all more important right now than TO:
Freddie needs to be traded. I want to get something for nothing here.
Corey Simon is demanding a $15 mil bonus. He could have been traded to Baltimore for $13 mil.
Pinkston is still lacking a spine and that 30 pounds of muscle he so desperately needs.
Westbrook doesn't have a deal done.
Michael Lewis doesn't have long-term deal.
Tra Thomas wants more money. We're pretty much screwed if the guy covering McNabb's blind side decides to get lazy.
Hollis Thomas is planning on holding out for a new deal.
So yeah, anyway, back to this TO thing ...

I got your number. I steal your thunder. I got your mother's maiden name tattooed on my arm.
