Drew Rosenhaus

Here lies most of the problems with Moss and Taylor . I am sure he has told his clients to not go to the workouts until you get a new contract, Taylor is going to miss the 150,000 for not going to the workouts. This guy is behind the Terell Owens new contract assult on Philly, the one that he just signed last year !!!!!!

Mmnnn . but was it not the case that this time last year , people were saying how much they wanted Taylor to have Rosenhaus as his agent because he had such a good working relationship with the Redskins?

I was watching "The Best Damn Sports Show on Television" last night and he was on there. One of the host on the show brought up our situation with S. Talyor and S. Moss. The host asked why both players had not shown up for the voluntary workouts and Rosenhaus smiled devilishly and said "com'on guys it's just voluntary workouts, it's not like its training camp" to which the host responded "but Drew everyone else is there" and Rosenhaus just shrugged it off.

The host then asked "shouldn't Moss be there since he's in the last year of his contract and looking for a long term deal". To which Rosenhaus said that "Moss deserves a better deal then what he has and that he believes that he should get paid as much a Coles or slightly less just because the Redskins traded for him as Coles replacement". The host then asked Rosenhaus to justify Moss recieving such a large contract equal to Coles without having Coles type numbers on the feild and began to read several categories that Coles numbers were double what Moss has produced. Rosenhaus could only come up with one statistcal category "yards per catch" and the fact that Moss is faster and a couple of years younger.

To me this is a problem. I hope Moss has a great year and helps us in the passing game. But giving him close to Coles type money is crazy when he hasn't shown he deserves it. When Coles was healthy or hurt he was one of the toughest recievers in the league, even though he was short of 1,000 yards last year he still had 90 catches last year with a bad toe and finger, and never complained about things during the season. Stuff like that earns you a 13 mil sigining bonus not just the fact that your replacing a guy who made that much.

This Arse is a classless SOB who lives in the reality only lawyers can fathom - a place without morals, human decency, and a true sense of justice.

I don't hate all lawyers, but this guy is one of them who gives the rest of the bunch a bad name. Agents = Lawyer + Salesman... Can you get much worse of a combination?

I hope the redskins don't give in to any demands. We may need their talent, but we don't need their greed.

The business side of football is so ugly. Gibbs may leave after year 3 for that reason alone. It's not the 80's anymore...

 I am pretty confused when it comes to contracts, salary cap etc and some of you guys seem to know your stuff here, so am I dumb as a mule or don't these guys have contracts?? How can they want new ones didn't Moss just join and Taylor well he was a rookie last year! I am so confused and if this surly attitude is because of their agent then I am pretty low on Drew Rosenhaus. At the end of the day as this is voluntary we shouldn't sweat it but surely they can't hold out from regular training camp can they?

I used to like Rosehaus until I read this........That guy is crazy if he thinks he didn't hurt his client Sean Taylor by telling him to hold out. He is even more crazy to think that Moss will get Coles type money. Moss isn't worth it and we're not even 2 million under the cap and we still have a top ten pick to sign.

If Moss chooses to hold out I hope Danny Boy buys him a big screen TV. Then I wanna see Rosenhaus interviewed on that sports show.

If you give in to one guy everyone else will want the same treatment. I can't beleave that this this not discussed before we traded for Moss. As far as I am concerned the Redskins need to stand firm and hold these guys to there contracts. Maybe next time we sign a player we will do our homework and get the right kind of personal in to begin with. Just because you are a good player does not mean you are good for the team. This is becomming a big problem across all sports players dictating when and where they are going to play. I hope we stand our ground.

Yeah, both players have contracts but that is doesn't mean anything when mangement gives in to contract demands for several reasons. For example take Sean Taylor, his agent will say to Gibbs that he is more talented that any other player on the roster and that if they don't re-negotiate then Taylor could become a distraction i.e.(missing voluntary workouts, partial holdouts, making the locker uncomfortable) and it's up to the front office to make a decision on whether to say no this player is under contract and that's final or to bend.

As far as Moss is concerned he is in the last year of his contract and you just traded Coles for him so the Agent already has us by the balls. If we don't extend him he's gone at the end of the year. If we overpay and he doesn't produce than it's the same old song "Redskins always overpay outside free agents and never their own". So it's kind of a situation where your stuck, that's why you have to be carful on who you bring in with a trade contract wise. Everyone knows that the redskins have a history of spending big money on free agents. I think for the most part last year was the only year that we did a good job other than Brunell. But every other year it blows up in our face.

The problem with free agency is that the player loses motivation. I going to be real I would say that I believe that 25-30% of NFL players play the game for the love of the game. The other 70-75% do it for the money and once you give a guy big payday without making him earn it he gets lazy, satisfied, dis-interested, whatever you want to call it. Even T.O. said in a interview that even though he works out really hard and always wants to win, football is not the most important thing in his life. He said to him football is a job that he tries to be the best he can be at but it not his top priorty in life.

So if you keep getting guy who come to washington for a check will never win.

I think Barrow was kind of suspect for his age but not his play all his career be a tackling maching, it's just the redskins luck that he went down last year.

I don't have a BIG problem with the Moss situation. At the time of the trade the 'Skins did say that they were interested in signing him to a long term deal.

However, I think he is only hurting himself by not attending the workouts. If his demands are too high and the 'Skins aren't willing to pay what he wants he's just screwing himself. Surely then he would like to have a big contract year and then he will want as much practice with Ramsey as possible. Additionally, with the huge cap hit the 'Skins took by trading Coles I doubt that they want Moss to just be there for one year and then leave. They have a big incentive to sign him to a better deal.

If he does sign a long term deal it really isn't in his best interest to get on Gibbs' bad side before he even joins the team. IMO, Rosenhaus's tactics are definately backfiring for his client, he can't possibly have Moss's best interests in mind.

As for Taylor, what a mess! I am still behind him and still think he was a great pick but now he has to grow up! Everyone said that last year was a learning experience for him but now that I look at it I don't really see how it could be. Why? Because he has suffered no consequences for his actions. He got off on the DUI and if we give in to his demands now he will not realise the errors HE made last year after being drafted and hiring and firing agents and then hastily signing a contract. He is still getting paid a lot of money, as much as almost any Safety in the game and his contract is inline with what a number five pick is worth.

I think he's most pissed off because Kellen Winslow acted like a complete jackass and held out and got a better deal than he did. I guess Winslow was right about making the 'Skins pay for not drafting him. This guy has to grow up and get to the workouts. Maybe we can renegotiate when he makes the Pro Bowl like Portis did.

However, every team faces problems like this every offseason. Yes, even the Patriots - remember Ty Law last year? The Eagles are having the same problems this year.

Gibbs will sort this out soon enough. I say this because only two out of seventy-odd players are not participating in workouts. He clearly has gotten the message through to 97% of the guys out there!

Moss has a small contract. If he doesn't want to be a part of the team...put him on the bench. The Redskins could put it back on him by saying...

"Come to these workouts, or we draft a receiver who will be with us for years to come, while you sit on the bench this year and halt your already hurting career."

Tayor's contract is a little bigger, but the same could be done. His contract has a lot of incentives...

No workouts=No playing time=No (Less) money.

Once the front office stands up, the others will see. They already saw it with Pierce and Smoot.

Come to play or get out.

The trouble with that scenario is that Moss is a free agent at the end of the year and he would certainly leave then. I would give his agent permission to seek a trade. This would result in one of two possibilities. 1) Moss getting his head right and signing an extension or, 2) Actually getting value for him via trade. It may even have a ripple effect on some of the other problem children on our roster (Taylor/Arrington). If we deal with Moss in a firm way they may get the message. If we got a #2 for Moss and a #4 for Gardner maybe we could draft a couple of guys that want to be Redskins.

It seems highly unlikely that we would trade a guy that we just acquired a few weeks ago.

Additionally, I don't see that scenario as problematic. Who cares if he's a free agent after this year. He would have had an injury plagued year and then sat out another year. That's not gonna get him too much money i nthe open market. If the front office would just stand firm, I'd like to think that these guys would wise up and realize that it's hurting them as much as the team. No more inmates running the asylum.

Correct. I don't see the need to sign him b/c he will be a FA next season. WHO CARES! He is basically wanting a max contract now. Also I don't understand this need to get value out of Moss b/c we gave up so much to get Coles. That is comparable to a gambler wanting to win back the money he lost. There has to be a point when you concede defeat instead of compounding a mistake.

I don't really want Moss at all. I'd say give him a modest pay raise for his one season left on his contract, see how he does and go from there.

So you are saying if we can't sign him to an extension, it is better for us to let him leave next year via free agency and receive nothing. Wrong. Besides, my plan was to drop this on the agent, thus motivating them to reach an agreement, or at least get him to the involuntary workouts. We certainly would not receive maximum value if we traded him now, but the mere suggestion to his agent might result in some movement. It would be very damaging to Moss if he was labeled as a problem in the T.O. mold. Simply a negotiating tactic, I'm tired of being jerked around by these players who are under contract.

Moss doesn't know this yet, but he is only hurting himself.

He is under contract, and must report to camp or else get fined. But that is the least of his worries.

He needs to prove himself as worthy of a contract. COles played hurt and made 90 catches. He was a warrior and worked hard to fulfill his rediculously large contract. The toe, a dislocated finger. He really never said boo about his injuries. As a fan, I appreciated his effort on the field. The coaches wanted him to have surgery. He didn't because it could have ended his carreer. The two could never meet. He didn't have the separation speed, so he had to get crushed making catches over the middle; hard catches. Not what he wanted. I wish he could have stuck around for the success the team will have.

Moss is no Coles. A little healthier now, maybe, and can stretch the field better. But I would not sign him to an extension with a signing bonus worthy of a top 15 receiver.

The team is actually in a good position. He is under contract and will play. The more time he waits, the less rapport he gets with Ramsey. Sitting gains him nothing. So what if he is a free agent next year? Missing camp will reduce his playing time. It reduces his value. He knows this. HE HAS TO PLAY. I really hope the team waits for him to prove himself a little before signing on the dotted line.

It's a shame...to the agent who wants to get paid for being their agent he wants them to renegotiate for more money so he can get paid...so common thought would be "Hey it's only voluntary work outs. But Randy Thomas said it best...."It's like when your girlfriend says you don't have to buy them something for their B-day....but in reality you know you must." Yea it's only voluntary work outs but you know you have an obligation to go work out. I for once would like the NFL to tell the players "NO" if you signed a contract then your obligated to that contract until it ends. I doubt I could go purchase a car and then a year later tell them I feel like I was ripped offed and want to renegotiate the contract for the cost of the car.

I also know that most teams will try to get a new contract signed before it expires. usually a year prior to they start so in Moss's case I can understand but it does not excuse why he's not at training. If he were to show up and ask for millions I would be inclined to say pay him because he has been a team player. but if he keeps this hold out status then I say let him sit. I think Gibbs is taking notice of who shows and who doesn't. However I hope he is also planning on how he will deal with these distractions. Especially Taylor. He has not made it through a year with out causing some sort of incident. ie...Rockie camp, agent changes, DUI, and now new contract. This is not what Gibbs meant by wanting corps Redskins.

On one hand, the factoid from the WP that intimated a guarantee from Rosenhaus to his new clients of a new contract regardless of mitigating circumstances (i.e. a just-signed current contract) makes him out to be another overly confident agent.
On the other hand, he's tight with Snyder, and Gibbs has spoken well of him.
Something tells me that Drew has gotten a little too big for his britches.

I still feel that a player should honor the contract that he signed. If the Redskins feel that they must redo his contract then Load it with incentives, that way if he gets more money he will have to earn it.
