Randy Thomas Defends Santana

Post by The Hogster »

Here is the link to the Washington Post article where the Redskins speak out on the absence of Santana Moss from voluntary offseason workouts. Randy Thomas defends his former teammate...but others imply Santana's off on the wrong foot.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/ar ... 5Apr7.html

I don't think the impact will hurt the development of the offense or defense so much, but I do think it will interfere with team chemistry. Im sure the guys who are out there are going to lose some respect and confidence in those who blow it off. More so for Santana because we are trying to improve the offense, and he is a new player.

I think Taylor will fall back into play easily...in fact the thought of him playing with a 'chip on his shoulder' is downright scary....but he should be there too.

Don''t swallow the kool-aide here. We are only talking about 2 players.

The Miami players workout down at Miami every year, miss these things, and come back huge in the regular season. They also play off each other so as to hone their skills.

2 players do not trump 63. Relax.

I don't think that their absence will have an extreme impact during the season with Mandatory Workouts, Training Camp, and 4 preseason games, but, when a guy like David Patten comes over here and is an active participant...it reflects poorly on Moss whom most people expect to be the leader of the receiving corps...i don't think he should come in demanding an extension, but not lead on the field. He has tough company as far as leading goes with Thrash and Patten, it would seem that for the team's sake you would show up and let your agent handle the other stuff.

Santan is going to be explosive in this offense, but Gibbs will likely increase David Patten's role if his absence is persistent.

I think it will be an afterthought after the draft, but hey, this is the news at the moment.

BigPigs right...
U. of Miami players love training in Florida for some reason, maybe they just miss campus or something. But regardless they usually all come back in top shape and put up great numbers

Who can blame them for wanting to train in Miami  beautiful women, beautiful weather, beautiful beaches. It says a lot about Clinton Portis who has been up here in D.C. working out....btw I saw Rock Cartwright & David Patten last night in a club called Ozio's in D.C. he was drinking Bottled Water...way to go Patten. :D

"I was on the sideline and guys were talking about the score, and then it hit me -- we won by 21. I came in the locker room and I yelled it out, and immediately I just kind of broke down in tears. Because I miss Sean, you know."

I dont mind them working out at all in Miami. AS LONG AS THEYRE WORKING OUT. They want to visit their old school, and thats no problem... Im surprised Portis is not down there either.
But i know theylle come back in top shape, and their minds clear.

yeah, I'd hate to see Moss hold out. If he did, he might just be sitting the whole year knowing Joe. I'd bet that the only way he gets a big contract with us before he plays a down is if it's very incentive based...

Holding out on Joe just isn't a good idea...

I agree Scottskins but I also would say that both sides (of the Moss equation) are very likely to want to have a "deal" in place before the season. Given the way things are now, this will be a contract that is more in keeping with Joe's fairness than perhaps our deals have been in the past.

I would agree though with you on the Gibbs managing skills - these players and agents are starting to see that we have a different system in place.

As I understand it most of the players are in attendance and these are just workouts! It would be worse to see these guys missing out on the mini camps that begin after the draft when they will start to work on playing drills and getting familiar with each other.
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

It seemed like a good idea for Coles; he got what he wanted.

All this stuff about working out in Florida would be fine if the Redskins were working out in Florida. However I don't think Ashburn is in the same zip-code. I'm sure the other members of the Redskins have collegiate backgrounds as well, but they obviously chose to be where their teamates are, and doing what they're doing. I think Gibbs made it very plain in his sumation of the problem yesterday in his press conference. Their participation is not, and cannot be made mandatory, but their absence does not bode well for their carreres.
Good luck in Florida guys, but your team is here in Va.
