Taylor Holds up Redskins and will probably holdout

Sean Taylor signed his contract, took the money and now he wants to rework his contract !!!! Thats robbery !!! He is not going to workouts, he needs to be with his team mates working out. This type of strong arm tactics has got to stop. Snyder should say play or sit and not rework his contract, maybe send him one of those flat screen TV's . I dont care how good he is, he needs to honor his contract that he signed . I am sure he will hold out.

This is terrible. I would HATE to lose this guy. We've got to make this kid happy.....and make sure he stays with us for a long time.

Unfortunately, I don't see him being a Redskin for life because of his sour start with the Skins. I don't think he's patient enough to stay with a team that is getting better every season. He wants to be on a team that is already winning. Hopefully he'll stay with us for at least 2 more seasons and become mature.

I have a bad feeling about this kid.

IF we loose Taylor im going to be pissed...
Personaly i think we should pay him as much as he wants.. BUT THATS WHEN HE SHOWS UP FOR THE WORKOUTS. He is a talented player and we should lock him up for as long as possible. With his mentality i don't he will hold out once he steps on the field.

This thread is piontless! Taylor isnt holding out, ST and S.Moss are working out privatly in Miami but Gibbs doesnt approve because they havnt attended not one VOLUNTARY WORKOUT! ST would love a new contract but its not likely becuase of the cap situation the team is in. Nine times out of ten he will demand a new contract after his probowl season this year! (lol) he will make it!

Somehow I really feel the need to rant just a little on this topic because for some reason it seems to be becoming a trend year after year. Just when we think we're making positive strides in attempting to secure the type players who want to be here and make an impact for a while nuances seem to somehow continue to raise their ugly heads. Last year it was Bailey and Taylor, this year Taylor, Coles , Moss. When will it ever end? We know Taylor has been unhappy with the contract he signed form day one, but it is my contention that if he was not satisafied with the contract then he should not have signed it. To continue being a constant disruption and displaying an attitude that's not condusive to the winning ideal is uncalled for.
I really do not expect this guy to be around very long so maybe we should not get too high on him despite his abilities. He is truly a talent but he also has personality and lack of maturity problems which began to surface early last season. It would be nice to see him get himself straightened out because I think he has the potential to become a very good player.
As for Moss he really needs to get all the reps he possibly can, but I would imagine his absence has something to do with a contract as well. IMO if these guys just play, or at least demonstrate they have the desire to be team players ther contracts will take care of themselves.Attitudes and disposition go a long way towards the type contract they will be offered.

He's a stupid kid listening to the wrong people. I read in the Post today about how frustrated Coach is getting because Taylor and (sha-sha-shocker!!) Moss haven't shown up to work with the team.

We already did that and he signed the contract! Oh! That was last year? Then he probably wants to change it this year? No! He doesn't want to change it, he just wants to play, his agent wants him to change it. Oh, that's okay! Let's give him what he wants! Is that for another 6 years? If he wants to change it next year we'll worry about that .... ENOUGH!

Well SkinsJock, i said pay him as much as he wants. But i dont mean sign him 10 years for 130 million either. Pay him for whats hes worth.... I agree with you on the matter that his agent wants to change it, he seems to be a little low on money i guess.

You pay a guy for performance not potential. He's only been with us for a year, now we have seen a lot of good things but he still has to grow some as a football player to get the nod from me.

ASHBURN, Va. -- Santana Moss and Sean Taylor are skipping the Washington Redskins' spring workouts because they want new contracts, the latest chapter in a tumultuous offseason that has seen two top receivers request trades and LaVar Arrington criticize the way the team handled his knee injury.

Moss and Taylor are the only two unexcused absentees from the voluntary sessions. Moss is the team's biggest offseason acquisition, and safety Taylor is coming off a troubled rookie season in which off-the-field antics nearly overshadowed his promising talent.
"The only thing I would say to anybody: If you miss the offseason work, I don't think that's good for your career," Redskins coach Joe Gibbs said Tuesday.

"It's not mandatory" to attend, Gibbs added. "You can't make it mandatory, but it is a critical time for us."

Gibbs and Arrington met to clear the air over comments made by the three-time Pro Bowl linebacker. On Monday, Arrington said the team did not support him during his injury last year and implied that coaches rushed him back onto the field. Gibbs denied the claims.

If Tuesday's meeting yielded any positive results, Arrington wasn't telling.

"I said what I said. Y'all don't need a quote," Arrington said as he emerged on crutches from Redskins Park. "Y'all already got what you need. The truth is in front of you."

Gibbs has been in damage-control mode all offseason, and the sagas have involved many of his highest-profile players. The coach also lost two highly valued "core Redskins," cornerback Fred Smoot and linebacker Antonio Pierce, to free agency.

Moss was acquired from the New York Jets for receiver Laveranues Coles, who was dissatisfied with Gibbs' conservative offense. Moss is entering the final year of his contract and wants a new deal, but the Redskins aren't expected to give him one before June 1 because of salary-cap reasons.

Gibbs said Moss' absence is hurting chemistry with quarterback Patrick Ramsey. Ramsey will be working with two new starting receivers next season because Coles and Rod Gardner wanted out. The Redskins are still trying to trade Gardner.

"I've talked to Santana numerous times," Gibbs said. "I think Santana wants to be here. We're trying to work through a process to get him here."

By contrast, Gibbs said Taylor hasn't returned calls. Taylor doesn't like the seven-year, $18 million deal he signed a year ago and he's fired two agents. He was fined for skipping a day of the NFL's rookie symposium and was benched for a game after being arrested on a drunken driving charge of which he was cleared.

Gibbs cited unspecified "complications" of a new deal for Taylor, and the coach tried to be optimistic that the latest setback isn't an indication of a difficult year to come.

"Last year we wound up having a rocky first year," Gibbs said. "I know there are some things that Sean wishes hadn't have happened, and we wish hadn't have happened. I think the lesson's learned there, I hope. What we're trying to do is get Sean settled down here, being a part of this team. I'm hoping any day he's going to show up."

Moss and Taylor are represented by the same agent, Drew Rosenhaus. Rosenhaus did not immediately return calls placed by The Associated Press.

ALL of these players are stupid kids that are getting their advice from stupid,greedy agents!! I no longer stress over this crap because if ST or any other taylor can't live off the multimillions they make.......then *&%$'em!! I ROOT FOR LAUNDRY!!!

I dont get why Football players even sign a contract.
Why even sign a contract when you are just going to complain that your not getting enough $.
I'm starting to wonder if football players can read.
If a contract says, "Do you agree to these terms" and you sign your name and say yes, then guess what moron, you signed the contract for that amount of money so play! If you dont like the terms, then dont sign the contract. And if you do sign it, then guess what, you are held to it and you have to play by it.

And no knock on ST, but he didnt even win Rookie of the Week, he didnt even win Rookie of the Year, he didnt even make the Pro Bowl.

Yet I'm sure everything will be settled by Training Camp, I mean this is what the Offseason is, Mayhem.

Can't wait to watch Santana Moss, LaVar Arrington, and Sean Taylor in 2005!

I'd love to trade Arrington, Moss, and Taylor-- all three of them are idiots. Alas, we can't trade Arrington because of the cap hit and Taylor because of his talent. But what's stopping us from trading Moss, maybe picking up another no. 1 amd grabbing Miller or Pollock or Jones to go along with Williamson, whom we're likely to end up with at nine, or maybe using our 9 and Moss to trade up to get Williams and a third.

Doing that is going to put us in a worse position. Players already have a lot of leverage to cry and pout. Why should we give in to him? He's worth losing the things that this organization is now trying to stand for? What if Samuels does it, and then the new center, Patrick, who's going to stop the trend once we start to allow it?

If he doesn't want to be here, he can leave. Plain and simple.

I agree with you Chris, as usual. Screw them. You signed it, now play for it.

Off topic slightly, why is everybody so high on Williams? Edwards is THE receiver in the draft, hands down. If we take a corner, i don't really care. The top two (jones and ? (been drinking)) are both good and would fit here.

Let's see the draft before we even think about giving into these childish demands.

I agree Champsturf (Wholehartedly) I said the same thing about Coles, I say that about Taylor, and I said that about Portis before he came here. If you sign the dotted line, play for what you signed and we'll hear from you when your contract is up. I say that because can you imagine what it would be like if our team was littered with these type personalities? One or two years into their contract they begin causing disturbance because they're no longer satisfied with a contract they signed.Players continue doing this because they feel reasonably certain they're going to find some form of releif in another taker.(Example) We took Portis off Denver's hands because he was an unhappy camper with his origional contract, came here and received a sizable new one. My contention has been and will always remain, if you sign it play for it.

If Taylor, Moss or both hold-out once Training Camp starts, they can (and probaly will be) fined for each day of camp they miss because they are both under contract.

I dont know if you saw Mike Williams play his sophomore season but the guy is an absolute beast. Not only does he have TE like size (6-5, 230, CB's dont have a chance against this dude), he has AMAZING hands (something Edwards lacks), and has damn good speed for his size. Book this guy to be a 100 catch, 1,500 yard, 12 TD player in a few seasons.

Redskins' head coach Joe Gibbs said Tuesday that he has not spoken with Sean Taylor during the offseason because the second-year safety has not returned his phone calls. Gibbs has been trying to reach Taylor to find out why the 2004 first-round pick has not been taking part in the team's offseason workout program.

You have to question whether Gibbs is losing control of this football team. Taylor won't return the coach's calls and linebacker LaVar Arrington pitched a fit in front of reporters on Tuesday while accusing Gibbs and team officials of pushing him to return too quickly from knee surgery.
