Merriman's Playing Weight?

Post by Skinsfan55 »

Merriman maybe lost some weight to show he can be a 3-4 linebacker but I've heard his weight listed from 240-270...

What is his weight?

If the Redskins drafted him we would want him to play MLB (approx. 250-260 pounds) or more likely DE (260-270 pounds).

What is his weight that he played with, what is it now and how would he fit into our system?

That would be good to get a MLB out of him, i don't know if it would work tho. I still feel our biggest need is WR, but a cornerback could be taken in the later drafts. Maybe we will take a DE.

Merriman is out of Maryland and is supposed to be a good hard worker. A Gibbs kind of guy.

A workout warrior with incredible physical skills, Merriman would be an ideal end/linebacker combo in a 3-4 scheme. Not many players have the ability to start from a three-point stance or play on their feet at 274 pounds. Merriman is reminiscent of Patriots linebacker Willie McGinest, who was the first draft pick of the Patriots when current Cowboys coach Bill Parcells began his tenure in New England.

He gained weight. He played around 255 at UMD and now weighs in at 274.

He played DE at Maryland and would likely play DE for the Redskins on pass rushing downs. He's a bit too heavy to play MIKE at 274, although he could pull it off with his speed and instincts.

Hmmm...

ESPN's draft section has him at about 250... nd some drafts have him at 270...

Anyway, if he is at 274 he could drop some and play MIKE.

But I think it will take some time to get a return on investment if we drafted him.

He is my favorite player in this draft class. I think that he will be a monster and an immediate contributor. The idea of playing him at MLB sounds novel, but I think its just that a novel idea. He will be a DE in a 4-3 scheme.

I understand your enthusiasm, but it's extremely unlikely that he'll be available by the time the Skins decide to select a linebacker. He'll kick butt for some team, but it won't be ours.
