I don't know if this has been said or not, but I will say it again....I wish that Joe Gibbs would call up MR Darrell Green and ask him if he would like to coach the DBs....Green would be a great influence on the younger guys as well as the vets like Springs....Green was and still is my favortie Redskin and I would love to see him on the sideline again...

yea he (D.Green) was real close to coaching DB's right after he retired that following season but he turned tha job down because if his schedule as a business, family and his said"He couldnt give the teams the time like he should because of other very important needs". So hopefully one say we will get him as a coach hey why not he is "Mr.Redskin" 8)

I don't understand why we didn't sign brian mitchell, he was only 34, he could have at least helped coach us.

Green would be more interested in passing the collection basket around for his foundation while he was on the sidelines.
What he did on the field, you can't teach. That's why there was, and still is only one DG.
Mitchell wasn't signed to coach because he only just retired. You work your way up into those sorts of positions. If he has any interest in doing that, he'll make himself available at the mini-camps as a volunteer assistant. If that happens, we'll see if he's got what it takes to coach.

Let me explain. DG was an extraordinary athlete, and is a fine man. He is not without flaws. Does anybody remember when Marty came on as coach ? He initially benched DG because during the "meet and greet", all DG wanted to talk about was himself and his charitable works. Marty was looking for him to mention the team or the players just once, but it never happened. It's also fairly well-known that DG stayed on through the 2002 season (after having publicly announced that 2001 was to be his last) because the events of 9/11 got in the way of his charity. See, there had been an agreement in place between DG and the team that his foundation would be allowed to solicit donations from the fans at home games in honor of DG and his contributions to the team and community. After the attacks, the team felt it prudent to redirect those fundraising efforts to benefit those affected by the attacks. After some brainstorming, DG decided to stay on one more season, with the agreement applied to 2002. Whether that's right or wrong, I'm not here to say. All I'm saying is, that's where his heart is.
As for Mitchell, he really tended to rub people the wrong way with his me-me-me stuff. Maybe time has matured him to the point where he can put his ego aside and help another guy do better on the field. Who's to say, though ? That one, we'll have to wait out.
I wasn't trying to come off as a know-it-all, '53. Sorry 'bout that.

Very knowledable. DO you think there are any positions on the coaching staff that we need to shore up?

54 man roster and salery cap... we have young RBs who are better than Mitchell is now... getting him as a coach is a good idea, but not as a player/coach.

1- let him pass his collection plate
2- you can teach some of it... i think he was a big reason why Champ and Smoot did so well so quickly
3- i think u r right that he wouldn't be interested, DG has different priorities, and understands what a committement coaching is, and he won't see the skins short... thus he wont coach :(
