Upgrading the Defense with #9

Post by BurgundyandGoldfaith »

I've been reading alot about the DE's in this draft and believe that rather than depending on a rookie corner our D needs someone to get to the quarterback faster to take time and pressure off of Walt Harris and our nickel corners. It may be years before we get to pick this high and it's been years since we've had a noteworthy DE. Having said that, the more I read about David Pollack, the more I think he's the guy we need. compared to Erasmus James' 4.40 in the short shuttle and 4.78 dash, Pollack did a 3.9 short shuttle and a 4.79 40yrd dash. To give you an idea on how astonishing Pollack's 3.90 short shuttle is, CB Antrel Rolle ran a 4.01, WR Braylon Edwards ran 4.38, and DE Dan Cody ran 4.56. In three years as a DE(42 games), Pollack had 283 tackles, 58 tackles for loss, 36 sacks, 117 QB pressures and has never been injured. anyway, that's my take on it. Thoughts???

I'm not jumping on the Defensive End thing until we see Phillip Daniels healthy for a season in GW system, and Lavar tearing around the end...im just not sold that the need is so pressing that we need to use the 9 on that position. With a pick that high, Gibbs will probably take the best available player, rather than passing on say Rolle or Pac-Man to take Pollack.

I voted CB if we go defense, and I think that the DE class is deep enough to pick up a great talent in the 3rd, or 2nd if we acquire a 2nd rounder for 50/50, or backing down.

This year's best DE is Kiwi and he is not coming out, the rest of these guys benefited from his decision to stay, and Im not sure that on talent alone they are worth a TOP 10 pick.

Pollack is very good, but its hard to tell based on the drill numbers.

i can't really vote. i think rolle is awesome. but at the same time i think that a strong DE would probably benefit the team more than a CB. i'll just say that i leave it up to gibbs, and williams to decide.

I wish that I could agree with taking Pac-Man, but I see him all the time at my bar. He is definitely not Gibb's type of player, The guy already has character issues that bother me. I wont go into details about him on a public board but, he's gotten himself kicked out a couple of times now.

Sean Taylor has some issues, we took him, he left the the required rookies meeting, and i think he will hold out for more money because he did not like the contract he signed.

The only position I think we could improve at #9, is CB. From what I've read, the talent at the other positions doesn't merit a pick that high. I'd love there to be a can't miss DE in there - it seems so long since we had a dominaing end under the age of 30.

At the moment, I can't say that I'm really excited by any of the possible draft prospects at 9. I almost wish we had the cap space to go out and use the pick to sign somebody else's restricted free agent.

 When a QB is under pressure he is surely less accurate.

Ok, I voted DT... If we use the #9 to trade down. So far, I don't know what to vote for, so I am maybe lighting a fire under Joe Salave'a and Brandon Noble if they come here.

If we don't take a WR at #9 than I would say take a DE. ( Pollack ) I think Joe and Gregg can find an Adequate CB later in the draft.

I voted for DE but our O is what sucked and we should use it on Offense not D.

Definitely have to go with CB. They are one of the hardest to get. If MWilliams is not there I'd be dissapointed if we didn't pick up Rolle or Pac Man.

Coach Willaims can still do his smoke and mirrors show with the defensive line but we need either pac-man or rolle.

I would like to see some pick up at the DE spot later in the draft but remember Daniels missed almost the entire season and will be back.

Springs needs help and Walt Harris is not the answer. I will not hope and pray that Garnell will step up......Maybe Jimoah can start???? YES I AM JOKING.

This sums up my feelings as well. CB or DE. LEt Williams and Gibbs decide. This is an important pick. Hopefully we can trade down get the person the coaches are wanting and then have a second round pick. That would be awesome!!
