Sean Taylor getting a new number?

Post by Raised2BeARedskin »

I was recently in Virginia at a official Redskins store, and the lady working there told me Taylor jerseys were selling for 30 bucks because he is getting a number change. Anyone heard what number; or why he is changing it? I saw some old Taylor video from Miami and he has always been 36, can't imagine why the change.

...Better not change his number. I have gotten use to making big hit jokes with the #36.

He needs to make noise on the field not off the field. Keep the number that he has. Why do the former Miami players always keep drawing attention to themselves off the field? I wish they would keep their mouths shut and personal agendas to themselves and drop the "ME ATTITUDES". It has been always something since he has been here.

It's only a number change. Not too big of a deal.

I hope this isnt true.

I bought a Taylor #36 jersey for like 80 bucks at the first pre-season game last year.

Well what would he change it too? Maybe Portis will back to his college number and Taylor will get 26. But I doubt the Redskins will allow that since Portis' old number, #28, belongs to Mr.Redskin.

I thought that Portis fought pretty hard to get Iffy's #26. . .so it seems strange to me that he'd give it up so quickly (after all, DG had left by the time Portis rolled into town. . .so if he didn't take it then why would he now?)

Sounds like a bad rumor to me. . .I could be wrong. . .but if it was me. . .I'd probably go and gamble the 30 dollars on a Taylor jersy.

And now that I've said that, someone is going to find an article talking about the number change coming up. Maybe Taylor will offer Portis a car and the use of his house for parties or something. . .

I can only think of one number that Taylor has been trying to change, and it isn't on his jersey...

Wow...dude. The man can change his number if he wants. He is not drawing attention to himself by a number change, you are giving him the attention. Did he send us all a post card to notify us of a number change? We don't even know if the story is true.....relax.

He should just change it to #42 and get it over with. Those comparisons started before he was drafted and will probably continue until he retires.

He makes plenty of noise ON the field. Other than renegotiating his contract it's been pretty quiet on the Taylor front. Let's hope it stays that way.

This isn't a big deal. Like someone said previously, it's just a number. Portis made a bigger deal about his number last year.

He shouldn't change his no. 42 and be continued to be compared to Lott. He should leave it at 36 and make a name for that number, I cant think of any player with number 36 that has ever dominated in the league the only person I can remember with that number is Bettis. I don't really care either way, but I hope he takes that tape off his facemask this year, it looks like a candy cane. However, the visor is pretty cool looking, I always feel the db has an advantage when the Qb cant read his eyes.

I guess it has happened. You guys have given in to the Miami "Me Attitude". What happened to blending in to the team, setting a good example. The socks didn't cordinate with jersey so he and Portis tried to change that. Portis bought a jersey number and then did't want to pay for it. A few months ago Doc Walker hit the roof on Sports Talk 980 when the subject came up about Portis and Taylor. He said these guys are the type of problems that the Redskins do not need, he felt like they slaped Joe Gibbs and all former Redskins players in the face with their desire to be different. He mentioned Portis with his number change, him and Taylor wearig different socks. He said they will never win anything as long as they desire to be diffenent and not buy into Joe Gibbs system built around being one as a Team. I have right to be upset as a fan, I have had season tickets since 1983 and I will relax once I get to watch the Redskins win more than a few games every year. I do not care how good you are as a player if you are a distraction to the rest of the team "Don't let the door hit you in the A##". To go on record I love Sean Taylor and Clinton Portis as players I just wish they would put up or shut up.

Yeah, yeah. People will continue to say "the Redskins will never when as long as XYZ," right up until the skins start winning. Then they will say "see, I told you that ABC was the key to winning!"

Why does he want to change his number?

I would be pissed paying for a Jersey with a 1 year life too.

It's already bad enough, they dont stay with the same team very long, now something stupid like this.
• NFL Championships
1937, 1942, 1983, 1987, 1991
• Conference Championships
1936, 1937, 1940, 1942, 1943, 1945, 1972, 1982, 1983, 1987, 1991
• Division Championships
1972, 1982, 1983, 1984, 1987, 1991, 1999,
• All-Time Record:
515-465-27

You are over reacting man...Players do those things all over the place. Whether it is the type of shoe they wear, the type of facemask, having their gloves unstrapped, or a series of wristbands all over the place...it is what it is...the uniform.
Getting rid of cancers like coles, and gardner, is way more imporant that telling Portis to change his socks.

The funny thing about the socks thing is that they won that game. It wasn't a problem after that. The NFL would've doubled the fines if they had continued. Gibbs also changed the uniform scheme to suit these two guys after that. Obviously the entire locker room agreed with it. Again, no big deal.

I haven't enjoyed 5-11 and 6-10 seasons either. That's for sure. But Miami alum or not they're still pro football players. 95% of NFL players have enormous egos. They know they're physically superior to the 99.99% of the worlds population that doesn't play. Things like this can be expected. After the L.C. debacle nothing is going to surprise me anymore.

But to get back on topic here. I know a lot of Taylor fans who bought the 36 jersey. I've seen them everywhere around here recently. Sucks to be them.
