What?
Parcells LOVES to be infront on the camera. He comments on EVERYTHING to the media, even stuff that has nothing to do with him, the Cowboys, or any of his many previous teams.
They practically have a regular feature on the NFL Network where they just show a series of sound bites of Parcells talking just to hear his own voice.

I guess I should be clearer and say Parcells is easily annoyed by the media.cvillehog wrote:Primetime42 wrote:Parcells hates having to work with the media.

He IS great for sound bites, though.

That sounds like the Parcells I know from the Giants and that smaller team in New York. The media here played along with the rages, though. Maybe, partly, because they made him the Big Fish. He was always good copy. Maybe the questions were less challenging because the Giants, at least, always won. The questions were usually, "How's Bavaro?" and "Why do you always torment good old Phil Simms?" and "How is Jumbo Elliot feeling?"
New York reporters can be sleazy, but it's hard to argue with a Super Bowl and Lawrence Taylor. These Cowboys don't have that.
Is there still a media campaign to make Drew Henson the starter? That would raise BP's blood pressure a bit...

Wasn't even aware there was one to begin with.

Wait a minute.
You dispute that there was, at least at one point, a media campaign to start Henson and bench Vinny ?
C'mon, now. I'll bet you could get one or two guys here to admit that, at one point, there was some pressure to bench Brunell and start Ramsey.
Maybe, one or two guys. I don't know, for sure.

I'm going daft, or, as TC says, there was a loud drum playing leading the chant "Henson must play". Didn't he start once, even?
Wasn't there a debate on this Redskins board led by Cowboy fams who argued that Henson would be great because (a) He had been through a high-pressure system when he played in the minors for our Yankees, and (b) college coaches had rated him better than Tom Brady years ago.
I even remember defending the Yankees/pressure argument (which doesn't mean he can play QB) even against my naughty urge to make fun of the way Henson used to hit.
So...no campaign for Henson? No predictions that he was the next Cowboy sleeper, another Roger Staubach?
[just had to correct my typos...painful to see when quoted by PT42]

I for one still think he's the real deal.
But then I said that about Carter a few years back.

I think he's the real deal, but I don't think BP is going to give him a fair shot, this year, next year or ever.

My gut tells me BP just doesn't like the guy. He's not 100% sold on him. When BP likes someone he throws him to the wolves, gives them the fast learning curve. He started VT over Drew, way more than he should have and now he's brought his old faithful Bledsoe. If or when he finally does give this kid a regular shot, say a stretch of 3-5 games...he's going to have so much rust and his psyche is going to be mush.

BP was the one who told JJ to get him.Hogfather wrote:My gut tells me BP just doesn't like the guy. He's not 100% sold on him. The guy's rust showed in that Thanksgiving game last year. He's got a ways to go still, but he's got plenty of time.
The Bledsoe signing bought the Cowboys that time.

Time will tell and I hope I'm wrong, as I am a big DH fan and would like to see him succeed. I guess I just get a little impatient will Billy. It's a lot like the Brunell and Ramsey scenario, I just wanted Ramsey in from day one

I agree on that sentiment. I initially said, believe it or not, that you guys were better off going with Ramsey when that trade went down.Hogfather wrote:Primetime42 wrote:BP was the one who told JJ to get him.Hogfather wrote:My gut tells me BP just doesn't like the guy. That's not the case right now with Drew Henson in Dallas. Bledsoe is still more than servicable, unlike Brunell. (and please no one take that as a knock...you all pretty much agree he sucks and he's the backup anyway.)

Should the Cowboys have sent Henson to play in Europe to get his "football head" working up to professional level? As I remember, and I only paid attention to him as the Future Third Baseman, he did not have a lot of college experience.
I know, that's asking what Parcells has in mind, and only a member of the Cowboys organization would know.
And, for an example of a QB who came back after several years away from football, we all, here, know Jay Schroeder. Jay played only a few games at UCLA in his freshman and, maybe, sophomore years. Then he quit school to play baseball, and failed, like Henson. A strong-armed catcher who could not hit.
Bobby Beathard drafted him in the third round, as people said, "Who????". Beathard said, "Just wait". I don't remember if he sat on Joe Gibb's "special" injured reserve for a year, but I think so. Still, Schroeder could not have had much game-playing experience before that instant when Theisman's leg was broken, and Schroeder replaced him.
So...we have seen it done. It just seems like a long leap from freshman football in college, through baseball, to start in the NFL.
In baseball (ha!) they would send him to the minors for some seasoning, and maybe have him play winter-ball. But in the NFL?

God forbid Bledsoe should go down...Henson would be too worn out to help. Plus he needs to learn as much of the Cowboys playbook as possible, not some coach in Europe. All it does is beat him up and put more pressure than is needed.
NFL Europe is for guys who have the brains, but not the greatest talent, or vice-versa.
Sooner or later, Parcells is gonna have to count on Henson.

I'm just trying to think how Henson can bridge three or four years of high-quality football that he would have had in college. It's not only a matter of rust, but of the jump from being a freshman phenom QB -- only a little beyond high school experience -- to the highest level of football.
That's why I thought about the minors, which is how a baseball team would bring him along.
Can he get the training from being in camp and practicing behind Bledsoe? (And, yes, Schroeder did it...)
