Josh Davis

Post by BRO »

I was just surfing the web and found some stuff on Marshall WR Josh Davis. I put some quotes below. At leats he seems like he would actually want to be a Redskin.

"My favorite team growing up was the Redskins, and it was cool to get a chance to meet with them and joke around with those guys for a bit. I just told myself not to be nervous about the situation and just go out and do what I do best, and that's play football."

"I would say I'm like a mixture of Torry Holt and probably like a mixture of Art Monk."

You know what...the second link has a picture of this guy...and physically he does look just like Art Monk, but looks can be deceiving...can he play?

His physical stature is just like monk, except he is a couple of pounds heavier. I havent heard much about him though.

Any clue where he is in the draft?
"I was on the sideline and guys were talking about the score, and then it hit me -- we won by 21. I came in the locker room and I yelled it out, and immediately I just kind of broke down in tears. Because I miss Sean, you know."

I don't think this guy would be a good pick. He doesn't sound overly intelligent, and he had to go to prep school to even become eligable to play NCAA. This means he will likely take a little longer than average to learn an NFL offense, a feat which often takes a WR 3 yrs to master enough to break out. That being the case, we need to consider the fact that he is older than most seniors and thus will be older when he finally starts to contribute. Besides, aren't we looking for some quick help at WR? (not 3 or 4 yrs from now)

At least he's bright enough to be a Skin fan...and he can't be any stupider than that other receiver from Marshall....who happens to be one of the top 3 receivers in the league.
God bless our troops and Joe Gibbs.
We'll miss you, Joe.

If you are scouting based on intelligence, then you will be jobless in a short period of time. A great majority of these guys are not "academic" monsters, but they do know football for the most part...they've played it for over 15 years in most cases...I would not write him off based on that...

your other point, a lot of receivers that do well are late first day and even second day picks...terrell owens for example.

Yes, its great to draft skins fans, and yes there are lots of sucessful NFL players who are not intelligent; however, a player's intelligence effect's their performance about as much as their physical ability. AP is a perfect example. We all know how well he did last year, in spite of the fact that he was very undersized. This was because he was smart enough to read the play and know, based on where everyone else on defense was, where he needed to be, and get there before he could be blocked (since he read the play quickly). WR is like this in that on the NFL level, players must read the secondary and choose the correct route to run based upon that. WR don't go into a play with only one route to run. Also, they need to understand zone defenses enough to know where the wholes in the zone are. You may notice young WRs often running right through the gaps in a zone rather than sitting down in them.

As far as your reference to Randy Moss's intelligence, I have no idea how smart he is. My diagnosis of Davis' intelligence was based upon his needing to go to prep school before he could get into Marshall. I was NOT saying he must be stupid for having gone to Marshall.

Where did I say that? or anything against it?

btw, TO proves one of my points... that WRs normally break out in their 3rd yr a couple of other notable examples... Chad Johnson and Javon Walker

Lots of players want to play for Da Skins. Considering we have so few picks every one is GOLD.
