The Broncos only gave the former Redskin a $1 million bonus so they still have money to spend on Brown if needed.

Remember, Plummer just restructured again.

THE SAGA CONTINUES....

Brown's Decision Is Expected Today

By Nunyo Demasio
Washington Post Staff Writer
Thursday, March 24, 2005; Page D03

After visiting his fourth NFL team Tuesday, defensive end Courtney Brown is expected to inform his suitors -- including the Washington Redskins -- of his choice today, according to sources familiar with the situation.

Coach Joe Gibbs has publicly played down Washington's chances of acquiring Brown, despite a courtship that started when the Cleveland Browns released him March 14 for not accepting a substantial pay cut.

"One good thing about recruiting and free agency, sooner or later they wear out," Gibbs said yesterday at the NFL owners' meetings in Hawaii. "I'm going to be part of the wear-out process because I'm going to call them in the morning and I'm going to call them at night. Sooner or later, they're going to say, 'Okay. I give. We're not coming or I'm coming.' "

Last weekend, Brown was expected to decide between Denver and Washington. After Brown's visits last week, both teams made offers with incentives tied to his health. Brown -- who has missed 33 games in five seasons -- then decided to keep scheduled visits to the Jacksonville Jaguars (Monday) and Seattle Seahawks (Tuesday).

"He's going to a lot of places," Gibbs said.

The Jaguars are roughly $13 million under the salary cap. The Seahawks are about $10 million under. Denver ($3.3 million) and Washington (about $2 million) have much less room. But according to a source familiar with the situation, Seattle didn't make an offer after Brown's visit. Sources say Jacksonville has made him an offer.

According to a source, the Redskins and Broncos remain the front-runners, and both teams have called him repeatedly over the past two days. The Broncos also have publicly expressed confidence about obtaining Brown.

"There's a lot of competition for him," Gibbs said Tuesday. "We're not confident we're going to get him, but we want him."

Brown -- the former top overall pick in the 2000 draft -- is close to Redskins linebacker LaVar Arrington, a teammate at Penn State. And the Redskins recently signed Brown's cousin, reserve safety Pierson Prioleau. The Broncos have Brown's former defensive line coach, Andre Patterson.

Although Denver scheduled the first visit for March 15, the Redskins preempted the trip by sending Gibbs and defensive coordinator Greg Blache to Cleveland the night before for dinner with Brown and his wife. Brown visited Redskins Park on March 17.

Redskins Note: Larry Michael, the radio voice of the Redskins on WJFK-FM, has left his position with Westwood One to work for the Redskins. According to Redskins spokesman Karl Swanson, Michael has been hired by owner Daniel Snyder to be executive producer for all broadcast properties.

21 pages on C Brown maybe signing? Is this the longest thread in HogsNet history (aside, of course, from the interminable election threads)? Is there a new ABC soap opera called the Life and Decisions of Courtney Brown"?

Free Agency withdrawal

It is the off-season Welch. Worse, it is early in the off-season.

It truly got to the point that I do not care what this guy chooses. Even if he comes to Washington, he still has to prove himself to everybody.

But I believe that there is a psychological factor at play here. Remember that we have been mistreated to be the champions of the off-season acquisitions in past seasons. I call this syndrome: Free Agency withdrawal. ROTFALMAO ROTFALMAO ROTFALMAO

I have taken refuge mostly in the Lounge forum.
Daniel Snyder has defined incompetence, failure and greed to true Washington Redskins fans for over a decade and a half. Stay away from football operations !!!

I agree there is some "Free Agency Withdrawl". I think anytime we get a chance to improve our team we all get excited. Most of us on this site all have the same desire and that is to see the Redskins return to the elite status we used to know. Sorry for the enthusiasm but it is not very often that we get a chance at signing the #1 overall pick. Brown has under achieved but sometimes a change can make a world of difference. If we can get him at a reasonable price the upside is too great to pass up. Low risk - High reward potential.

Redskins await word from Brown

Post by Skinna Mob »

The Washington Redskins expect to learn today or tomorrow whether they will land free agent defensive end Courtney Brown.
Brown, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2000 draft, completed his expected team visits yesterday with a trip to Seattle. On Monday he was in Jacksonville, and last week he journeyed to Denver and Washington.
Initial expectations were for Brown to decide between the Redskins and Broncos early this week, but he extended his search with closer investigations of the Jaguars and Seahawks. Yesterday a Redskins source said a decision should come by tomorrow.

Despite Brown's pedigree, he struggled during five seasons with the Cleveland Browns. Expected to be a pass-rushing force, he recorded just 17 sacks and missed 33 games because of injuries.
Washington is offering Brown a chance to play in a rotation at defensive end with veterans Phillip Daniels and Renaldo Wynn. The setup could ease the burden on Brown, who played in just two games last season because of a torn ligament in his foot.
The Redskins demonstrated immediate interest when Brown was released, having coach Joe Gibbs and defensive line coach Greg Blache fly to Cleveland for a meeting. But the club apparently showed restraint in contract negotiations, defying expectations it would press for an immediate agreement with an over-the-top offer.
Note — At the league meetings in Kapalua, Hawaii, the NFL formally approved the sale of minority owner Fred Drasner's stake in the Redskins to owner Dan Snyder and Snyder's family. Drasner owned between 10 and 20 percent of the team.
"It's almost like, you play a kid's game for a king's ransom," he said. "And if you don't take it serious enough, eventually one day you're going to say, 'Oh, I could have done this, I could have done that."

Ill be glad when he decides one way or another. I'm tired of waiting. He must not be getting many great offers if its taking him this long. Maybe its coming down to personal preference.

Defensive end Courtney Brown kept his suitors in suspense for another day by informing them yesterday he needed more time, according to sources familiar with the situation.

ALSO

The Redskins are reportedly interested in wide receiver Kevin Dyson, who didn't play last season after being released by the San Diego Chargers during training camp.

This sucks because I want to know what his decision is.

Its good because it means that its not going to be a money decision but a decision based off of where he really wants to go. Not saying he's not greedy but it seems everyone gave him an equal offer. GREAT! The extra cool things are on our side. He and Gregg have the same agent, Lavar, Bowen, his cousin...

I think we have him.

PLEASE DO NOT SIGN DYSON!!!! HE'S 100 YEARS OLD!!! We have enough people!

Maybe they want Kevin Dyson as a special teamer. Otherwise, it wouldn't make any sense at all to sign a guy when we have so many young players at that position who deserve a shot.

Andre Dyson might make a little more sense cause we are a tad thin at the corner back position. Still neither should be signed in my opinion.
