Not that I agree with that proposition at all, but just thought I would throw this one out. Please re direct me if it has already been discussed.
But, Why not Arrington in the Middle, and alternate Clemons and Marshall at outside, which they both played very well last year?
Again...I visit this site a lot and I thought I'd throw out a topic that would arouse strong feelings one way or the other. And before I get ripped, lemme say I don't agree with moving him inside, but since people have suggested Lemar Marshall at 227 lbs, I thought this suggestion would generate opinions.

I will start with an argument for why not...His pass rushing ability is the first reason. He has the potential to be a beast rushing around the end.
Rebuttal to that is...Chris Clemons, emerged as a pass rushing specialist as well. And with the addition of another pass rushing DE, and the return of Daniels, that argument may get weaker.
I think Lavar should stick to outside.... His speed and size define him as an outside linebacker... especially since greg williams decided to put him as a weak side linebacker (so there would be no TE in his way).. I think lemar marshall will do really good at outside because him and pierce are basically the same.. But as we all know Williams likes to heavily rotate his positions, so we will see some switch arounds... but the starting three linebackers will be arrington and washington at outside and lemar at inside. I personally beleive that lemar marshall is capable of doing better at inside...
He would be wasted in the middle.Middle linebackers are used primarily to stop the run. I would love to see Lavar play a Lawrence taylor type role and just Go after the qb all day. We also have a good linebacker core. If that barrow dude can come back anytime soon he will fill the middle spot just fine. I just think Lavar is too much of an athlete to be wasted in the middle.

The biggest waste of talent currently at MLB is Brian Urlacker. I live in Chicago so I see plenty of Bears games and there is no way he should be there. Urlacker at Weakside LB would be devistating. He could blitz, drop back in coverage as he almost has the speed to be a defensive back. He could effectively take over one side of the field.
At MLB sure he is smart at calling plays and alignments but he can't shed blockers that well and his talent is not to be a plowing run stuffer.
Same goes for Arrington. Arrington at WLB has limitless posibilities. At MLB, he'll be effective but he has way to much talent to be there. Not the MLB aren't talented, but someone with the atheletic gifts of LeVar is best suited on the outside LB position.
While not disagreeing with any of the other reasons that have been posed, let me add this. I don't think that LA has the right mentality for an MLB. He also didn't spend hardly any of last year playing in Williams Defense. Lavar has never been known as a student of the game, and thats what you have to be to play MLB. Lavar also freelances too much. He doesn't play with enough discipline to be and MLB. Let him play the weak side where he can just attack all day.

agree totally. by far the best reasons mentioned that he SHOULDN'T be moved. if he had his head in the game, he'd already be the best linebacker in the nfl.
boss and i have discussed lavar several times. it's going to be a trip to see how he reacts by being the SECOND best player on the D.... behind taylor.

You don't put that speed in the middle..it would be wasted. Lavar is at his best when he's chasing people down. Why is it so hard to see where he fits best? You need to look no futher than what M.Lewis did with him three years ago.

Yeah, I just thought it appropriate for those of us who get up here and regurgitate one of three things:
1. What someone else already said in a previous thread.
2. What they heard in the media.
3. What someone told them.
Originality of thought is the only thing that will keep the offseason interesting. Not a knock on lawyers.

Of course, that was the pre-marriage Lavar, the carefree, fun lovin', line leapin', outta position Lavar. Now he's got something to play for, not to mention an outlet for all the pent up testosterone/agression.
I think he has matured, and he could get his head in the game now.
However, I do agree that it IS a waste to move him to the inside.
Aside from all his physical talents, he now has better pieces to work with in the defense. He's no longer "the man"; he, like the rest of the guys, is now a role player (and an expensive one at that).
He doesn't have to go out there solely to reach personal accolades because now the team has vision, a goal that can be reached, and I'm sure he wants to again be a winner.
With his head on right, and the burden of HIS shoulders, look for him to tear some of the opposing QB's heads of of theirs.
And of course, with Washington on the other side pushing him to greater heights, our LB corps will be downright NASTY
I think given that LaVar tends to free-lance more than he should, getting himself out of position, as much as I love the guy, I don't know if I trust him to be the signal-caller for the defense. Keep him outside.
