1niksder and myself resent the sucking of Jacksonville comment. Come on, now...give us credit...we're the largest small minded city y'all ever find, now. Ya hear...??? To be honest, though...it's a pretty nice place to live. And my wife is from Port Clinton, Ohio (REAL close to Cleveland.) She agrees that it's better here. I've kept quiet up to this point in baring my opinion. I've posted a link or two, but no opinion. I personally hope that we don't sign him. How are we ever gonna develop these "diamonds" that Joe unearthed in the undrafted pool, etc...if we keep signing people and putting them in front. Besides, I think we're gonna need this money that we've reserved for these offensive weapons that we're going to sign in the draft, etc. My reasoning for us not "collecting" Brown is that I think his demands are unjustified and will send a bad message to the "hard working, blue collar" members of our team. Joe did well, I think by not signing Pierce for more than Washington. Washington is a proven elite, while Pierce had a SINGLE breakout year. Not taking anything away from Pierce's season, though...because he was outstanding. Same scenario with Springs/Smoot. My 2 cents

I wonder if Brown already decided on the Redskins and is just visiting other teams to get them to raise their offer. I mean with all the intangibles to playing here how much more money would another club have to offer to get him to choose another team over Washington.

I can't imagine any team offering Brown a huge Kearse or S. Rice contract. Maybe that is what he thinks he is worth. It appears that three straight seasons on IR didn't humble him much.

I really think CB is looking for another payday. Let's not kid ourselves.

And as far as the intangibles, remember that his college roommate still has a "grievance" against us.

I am stating that CB does not truly want to be a skin. He is a hired gun.

Are you referring to LaVar? I thought he dropped that grievance.

As far as I know, and it has been reported in the news and on this site, Levar's grievance is still out there. I hope I am wrong, but...

Every passing day makes it less and less likely that we're going to land this guy, and somehow...I don't care. When it was a simple case of signing a free agent to what I assumed would be an incentive laden contract with a face value of nominally more than the vet's minimum, I was happy. Now that he's apparently shopping the value of his collegiate days, I'm not so interested.
Nobody is going to ask me what I think, but if they did...I'd say, let him go. Don't play that game.

I think he is just shopping hisself around to hear what everyone else is offering.

I doubt he wasn't given a MORE THAN fair offer from the Skins, and will get good offers and a promise to start from most other teams.

Every team that he is visiting needs help on the D-line meaming he'll be on his own (sometimes outnumbered)
In Washington we need help with our D-line meaning he'll have plenty of help (he'll be in a rotation and we have LBs that you never knew when they were coming)

If he can't figure this out ..... do we really want him?

i have to say that i'm a bit surprised at the animosity i see here towards brown because he didn't sign right away, and is listening to other teams offers. i'm sure the thrill of playing for gibbs isn't lost on him, but maybe he's more into a having a young energetic coach, like del rio. or maybe he's a big holmgren fan. who knows. but it seems silly to bash the guy and call him ignorant because he didn't kiss joe's feet and sign whatever contract they put in front of him.

if he signs with the skins, great, i'll cheer for him when he plays well and curse him when he doesn't. if he signs elsewhere, so be it. i'll get over it when we have the top ranked defense next year.

I hope my postings weren't construed as bashing. All I'm saying is, if Courtney is being realistic...he'll understand that the best situation for him is one where he's a role player and not the be-all and end-all.
He's not physically fit for the job of Savior.

i agree with you completely on what's best for courtney, tc, and i didn't take your posts as bashing. but you know how big players' egos can be, so if enough teams (read:one team) tells courtney he can be a full time starter and save their defense, i think he'll believe them.

Why Courtney Brown has not signed yet.

Post by coachKarl »

Brown wants guranteed money not an incentive laden contract. The team did not open up the wallet, had they ,he would have been signed already. This shows that the team is heading in the right direction trying not to overpay.

"There's a lot of competition for him," Washington coach Joe Gibbs said Tuesday of Brown. "We're not confident we're going to get him, but we want him."

Maybe Im reaching a bit, but when Gibbs came in didn't everyone tell me he's always a bit obscure and that he never really lets on to anything.

CLL, you're exactly right. Gibbs never did put his real thoughts out there in front for people to see. Being vague is his forte. He lulls a lot of people into thinking on thing...when something else is actually happening.

Right now, for example, Courtney Brown is probably picking out which locker he wants in Redskins Park.

I see that quote as more likely to really mean: if we can't get him, jack up his cost to the Broncos, or whoever lands him.

The Broncos signed Stephen Alexander to a $4.2 million contract. This should hamper their ability to sign Brown.
