Just a reminder that no one here will decide this woman's fate. This has obviously become a heated discussion and rightly so, but truthfully, there is no right or wrong, merely opinions, be they religion based, partisan based, personally based, whatever -- it doesn't matter, all opinons are valid. We've been playing pretty nicely here -- lets keep it that way.

NO PERSONAL ATTACKS. (Merely a reminder... not directed at anyone, just want this to remain in the lounge.)

If men can run the world, why can't they stop wearing neckties? How intelligent is it to start the day by tying a little noose around your neck?

now I'm color-blind? First I wasn't tricking you into contradicting yourself... I was just carrying on a conversation... you're the one that contradicted yourself... and as for your color-blind-"I'm trying to be witty and create some kinda hidden symbolic message that really no one will ever really get" thingy.... well I didn't get it... but I take it as I don't get what those who are bible thumpers know more about....

when you're sitting in the million dollar church, taping that pretty little bible... and you go home to that nice shiny new house of yours... I hope you sit back and realize, how many starving children you're cult could feed that they supposedly care so much about...

My, my, my. The "big meanie" is quite sensitive today, eh?

Got you usin' the ol' "bible-thumper" defense, coupled with my "being in a cult" charge. You truly are an amazing spectacle.

Please forward the info where I can send checks to the countless charities you support.

I'm not the one preaching brother....

Well, you are certainly spreading some false testimony about yours truly. I guess that must be what is described in the Bible as "other gospels".

REDEEMED,
I'm surprised you aren't interested in seeing her released from the constraints of this world to spend eternity in the Lord's shining light (or whatever).

Thanks for the reminder. I think this has remained pretty civil, probably because none of us do have any say in this, as you mentioned.

I certainly respect that people have different views on what is right an wrong with the withdrawl of care or who can determine that, in this case and in general.

But, my question for everyone here is: do you really want Congress determining such personal choices for us?

I've seen a person as a vegetable. 5 years ago, a 17 year old boy in my neighborhood shot himself in the head. He was on life support. He had zero brain activity. He didn't open his eyes. He didn't respond to any kind of human contact. He was dead, but had a heartbeat and was breathing because of a machine. A lot of people are putting Terry into this category. That is wrong. Brain dead people do not smile when kissed on the forehead. Brain dead people do not follow moving objects with their eyes. Terry isn't on a ventilator. I also remember in my psych class when we were discussing the brain. When certain parts of the brain are damaged, other parts of the brain can pull the weight. I believe it's called prunning. I haven't had that class in two years so my memory is fuzzy, but I believe prunning has something to do with the axons and synapsis reconfiguring themselves when part of the brain is damaged.

:shock:What are you insane??? Of course I'm right. Just kidding.

I hear what you are saying, no one on this board will determine her fate, in here. However, the beauty of this country is that we can have our voices count toward major decisions with a simple call to our representatives in congress.

My bad. "Vision impared" is what I meant. Of course, then that would mean you'd be handicapped, which means, you must now be forced to die!!!!

You are mixing up colloquial and medical terms.

That boy was comatose. This woman is in a Persistent (meaning permanent) Vegitative State.

A fuzzy memory??? It could be brain damage? Perhaps your cortex might be all gushy and liquidy by now. You can't possibly live on like this. You gotta die!!!!

Of course, you know I'm kidding.

Yes, there is a big difference between that boy and Terri. Terri is being kept alive (with food and drink) through a tube, because at some point she was not allowed the opportunity to swallow foods after her heart failure.

Sorry, bub. It would have been "die cowboys die", but that seems to be taken, and I don't want to have to pay royalties. I mean... I got many more million-dollar homes to buy and hungry children to neglect.

Well if you want to kill me, just leave it up to a judge to make that decision. I'll be dead in a few days. Thank God for justice

Yep. IMO Terry is no different from someone who is severely retarded. I guess we should starve all retarded people and put them out of their misery.

Of course you are entitled to your opinion, but if I were retarted, i would be offended by that. You are equating mental handicap with having a liquid brain.

The big difference between the Schiavo case and that baby is that the SAME people who want the "save" Terri "killed" that baby because his mom couldn't pay the bill.

I know you are being funny, but I feel compelled to elaborate, since you are misconstruing my post.

Mr. Bush signed the law in texas under which this baby was "killed" and signed the law congress just passed re: Terri Schiavo.

So we DID elect a flip-flopper. Boy, that Karl Rove was sneaky.

Well, if you were mildly retarded, you may be offended. There are different levels of retardation. Some retarded people can do simple task and just appear a little slow. Others can't talk or walk and need others to take care of all their needs, just like babies.
You are equating mental handicap with having a liquid brain.

I'm still skeptical about this "liquid brain". If her brain was liquid, she would be comatose, just like my friends brother who shot himself in the head.

You keep spinning this into another debate. I think the medical system is a huge cluster (fill in the blank). I think it's absolutly ridiculous that an aspirin is $30 in a hospital. I agree something needs to be done about the situation.

Brandon,
Get an encyclopedia and look up Cerebral Cortex and where it is and what it does. This is the part of her brain that is mostly gone, and has been replaced with spinal fluid.
