Challenge to Skins Fans

Post by The Hogster »

Hey Fans:

Everyone knows we have the #9 Pick this year, and everyone has an opinion on who we should take. Frankly, everyone thinks One of about 4 players (Williams, Edwards, Antrelle Rolle, or Packman)

Who, of the players available when we pick in the 3rd Round, should the Redskins Draft? Just to challenge the inner GM and Scout in you all, and break the monotony of everyone talking about our #9 Pick.

In other workds, who will be the Chris Colley of this year?

I think Corey Webster in the third and you are about to be told to go to the draft section. The moderators are really bothered by having to move stuff, and rightfully so. Not bashing you, but they will tell you shortly that you shouldn't have put this here.

Thanks for bailing me out there. To respond to the other post...I also REALLY like Marlin Jackson, and would love to have him, but in researching him I found that he had an assault charge on is record and some other team discipline problems. Joe Gibbs is not on to that type of guy, but I definitely would like to take him.

Here are a couple of names that may be there in the 3rd:

1. Vincent Jackson, WR Northern Colorado 6,4' 241 4.5 (40yd)
2. Chris Canty, DE Virginia 6,7' 290 (was top DE, injured last season)
3. Ronald Bartell, CB Howard 6,1', 211 4.3 (40 yd) (If he went to any other school and had this workout, he'd be a first rounder.
4. Robert McCune, MLB Louisville 6,0 245 4.5 (40yd).

Chris Canty is a very good suggestion.

I've been criticized for throwing this name out there in regards to our 3rd rounder before but I'll do it again- Mike Nugent.

This guy is a tremendous kicker. He was money from 50+ for the Buckeyes and frequently put his kickoffs into the end zone (something the Skins desperately need) He would be huge for us in the field position game, which we seem to have lost a lot the past few seasons.

I know taking a kicker in the 3rd round sounds stupid. I am just so sick of the revolving door of kickers the Redskins have had for what now? 10-15 years) Since Lohmiller thats for sure... I want Nugent. Of course I'd rather get him in the 4th round but I'd be willing to use a 3 on him. And don't throw Sebastian Janikowski's name in my face. For one I am saying we take him in the 3rd round, which is a far cry from crazy Al Davis using a 1 on Seabass. Plus Janikowski was more of a creation of the media with his booming leg and outlandish personality. Nugent is just a really really good kicker who goes about his business. Especially when the game is on the line.

In a perfect world we get Rolle in round 1, Canty in round 3, Nugent in round 4, and use the last couple picks on offensive linemen.

Wingman: I'm a Virginia alumni, and Chris Canty has been tremendous for the Cavs since his senior year. His only serious injury was last season. Mel Kiper had him in the Top 32 his junior season. The injury actually occured when someone fell on him, he is agile and 6'7 290. He and his brother also played basketball...but not for Virginia. I anticipate a guy his age to fully recover from his injury and be a force in the NFL.

That's definitely a tough question.

There's a couple of guys i'd like to fall to us in the third, but you just never know how things are going to shake out beforehand.

Couple of guys I'll be watching for personally...Terrence Murphy (WR), Fred Gibson (WR), CJ Mosley (DT), Brandon Browner (CB), Michael Boley (LB) and Jevon Haye (DE).

I like Nugent as well, but i dont think we will take a kicker since we already have John Hall and maybe Chandler (who i though was better than Hall)

But I'd like to get Vincent Jackson WR: Colorado or Lofa Tatupa MLB: USC

Vincent Jackson is like 6'4 and reminds me of Kellen Winslow Jr. but as a WR and without the attitude.

Lofa is a beast in the middle and would be a great guy to bring up. He is a lot like Pierce; they are both smart, strong, and #58! We could use Barrow and Marshall this year, and if they dont work out we could slowy bring Lofa up from special teams just like Pierce.

But if Chris Canty is their (which i highly doubt because even if he is a risk with that ONE injury, he has tons of upside) i would take him if we dont get a DE with the 9th.

I personally don't agree with the skins taking Canty. I'm as big a Virginia fan as anyone. I just think Canty is too big a risk with his injury. Virginia has its proday i think on the 23 of march,if he can't go then i would stay away. Besides skins gonna get Heath at number nine. I haven't really checked out the db's yet but think we could get a good corner at that position. Don't they usually try and even it up,one for offense one for defense. Lavarr/Samuels etc.

If Canty is there I say take him. If we don't take a CB with the 1st pick and Domonique Foxworth of MD is around at #3 I say take him.

Pro Teams don't pick even numbers of players for offense and Defense, they pick either who they need, or the best player's available, I havent heard of a team just alternating picks.

As for Canty, he is only 22 years old, and he will heal from his injury...that is not a risk, especially with the 3rd round pick. I doubt Skins take Heath Miller that early.

Heath is also a beast, but he would be more of an H-Back in our offense given his speed, hands, and ability to stretch the seams, and we already have Cooley...we would not be using his talents to the fullest to have him mostly blocking as our TE's do.

Moss,Patten,McCants,Jacobs, and Vincent Jackson....I think that would be a solid group at WR.

Does everyone think our offensive line is good enough not to warrant any consideration. The third round could have some really good offensive lineman. I'm just curiows if you folks think we go after need of position or best available player. There could be some steals in the third round and at the right price.

We definately need to address the offensive line. We pretty much have our starters inked in but in the case of injury and especially our future we need to get some good guys in the wings.

We picked up 2 good tackles last year, we have some longevity on this line but once we get these newer guys up to speed that'll allow us to swap players in and out and not miss a beat.
The road to the number 1 pick gaining speed!

We have Jim Molinaro, Mark Wilson, Cory Raymer, Lennie Friedman, Ray Brown, Jon Jansen, Chris Samuels, Casey Rabach, Randy Thomas and Derrick Dockery... that's if you don't include guys like Pita Eisara who ALWAYS plays well enough to hang around.

Personally... i don't see it as a need position. If we were going to take someone in the third round, I don't think there's any reason to believe that we'd get a better player than Molinaro and Wilson are now, having a year of experience in the pro game. if David baas fell to the third... okay... otherwise, I just don't see anyone better than what we have being there late on the first day.

I'm not saying we won't or shouldn't, you always take a player if he's going to improve your team... I'm just not sure that's 'presumable' in a mid-round pick.

My 2 cents
Sean Taylor was one of a kind, may he rest in peace.
