Hey guys, I just wanted to know if anyone caught any of the 5 or so radio appearances that Gibbs made yesterday. There was one thread yest. about it, but it was more about Darnerian McCants. I was wondering how callers were treating him, and what he had to say. Thanks.

Callers were treating him with respect and several didn't have questions, they just wanted to thank him for coming back and encourage him. He also cleared up the misunderstanding about his comment about if we don't start winning he will be out of here earlier than 5 yrs. He said he is here for the duration of 5 years no matter what and that his comment had been taken way out of context.

I knew he'd stick it out but it's great to hear from his mouth, Terri. Thank for the update! He's obviously here to try and win another Super Bowl but more importantly, he's here to turn the franchise around.

i have an inkling that gibbs will only coach for another 2 years, then allow williams to be the head coach, and gibbs will keep his title as president. he'll still 'be with the club', but just not as head coach. williams won't wait around much longer than that, i suspect. espescially if he keeps creating no. 3 defenses with less than awesome talent.

jbd, I understand your point but I think that if this thing does work out like we all hope it will then I think Joe will stay and he will find a way to keep Greg also. I have a feeling that this relationship will allow Greg to feel he can stay because of the success and how much of it is due to him.

Being around Joe Gibbs is probably not too bad a deal either.

I have always believed that Joe grabbed GW specifically because he is grooming him to be the next head coach. Remember Pettibone?

And I am willing to bet money that GW knows it too, which is why he is telling his agent to decline head coaching nods.

Moreover, he is paid as a head coach, and he has the full autority of a head coach for the defense. He also has the ear of Gibbs, which means you got to be dang good for a HOF coach to go against himself and draft a defensive player (Taylor)...GW made and won that case.

Writing on the wall...JG is building a set of winners for GW.

Gibbs is the smartest coach in football, although he will laugh and change the subject if someone tells him...unlike some coaches who aren't happy unless the sports entertainment media crew are calling them "genius".

Gibbs did not step across and learn NASCAR -- after three Super Bowl titles -- without some deep-down skills in leading people, planning, and insight that most of us don't have and hardly ever see.

(Petibon was a little different, Richie P. was loyal to Gibba and the Redskins. He wasn't all that interested in other jobs, except coaching the Bears. He had begun there. I think GW is more like a certain coach in New England, who, like GW and Petibon, was a defensive master, but who failed at his first head coach job. GW is young enough to get a second chance.)

I think this statement is the greatest testimony to his leadership ability.

In NASCAR, the hardest thing to do is to recruit and keep teams together. He was the first owner to do it. In fact, his team has been together for YEARS, not a season.

Also, he went into a sport he had ZERO knowledge (sound familiar...salary cap), and although he was ridiculed for it from NASCAR fans, he dominated it!!!

JG works from a simple principle that is tried and true: surround yourself with good people and empower them to do their jobs. And, he is too stubborn and competitive to not master something he attempts.

Three SB and HOF induction are impressive alone. Add to that three NASCAR championships, and it equals domination in TWO major sports. Name anopther who has done this feat! This, alone, should demonstrate to all that Joe is the "smartest man in football." This is why Joe went after Williams, and this is why I think Jow has every intention of leaving them in his hands.

My prediction for all to see:

1. Joe will stay on as coach for one more season after the upcming, and then give the team to over to GW, assuming if DS does not object, and I have no evidence to the contrary. He has always wanted Joe or Joe-like.
2. Musgrave becomes promoted to OC
3. Joe works the fornt office with Danny for the remainder of his contract.

Who the GM after that is anybody's guess.

1. Joe coaches us 4 more years counting this upcoming one and then after two more superbowl wins he hands the reigns over to GW knowing that he has taught him offense and how to relate to any player past or present and future.
2. Musgrave is let go after 2 seasons with the redskins.
3. After Joe hands the reigns to GW, he stays on as president of football operations and adds the title GM. He does this for at least 5 years.
