Gibbs Pays Visit to Courtney Brown Tuesday March 15, 2005 3:02pm
Washington (AP) - Joe Gibbs wasted no time pursuing former No. 1 overall draft pick Courtney Brown.
Within hours after Brown's release by the Cleveland Browns, the Washington Redskins (website - news) coach flew to Cleveland with defensive line coach Greg Blache and had dinner with Brown and Brown's wife Monday night, an official within the league told The Associated Press on condition of anonymity.
The official said Brown was expected to visit Redskins Park later this week.
Brown, the first overall choice in the 2000 draft, was cut by Cleveland because he would not renegotiate his contract. He would have been due a $2.5 million roster bonus Tuesday. Browns general manager Phil Savage said he still hoped the team could re-sign the oft-injured defensive end.
But Brown quickly drew interest from other teams, including the Redskins. Washington is in need of a pass-rushing end, having relied heavily on linebackers and cornerbacks for many of their sacks last season.
Brown was also a teammate at Penn State with Redskins linebacker LaVar Arrington, the No. 2 overall pick in 2000. If Washington acquires Brown, the team will have the top three picks from that draft: Brown, Arrington and tackle Chris Samuels.
But Brown also represents a gamble because he hasn't played a full season since his rookie year. He has missed 33 games with injuries over the past four seasons, including the final 14 games last year after tearing a ligament in his foot.
Brown's other injuries have included a torn knee ligament, a high ankle sprain, knee cartilage damage and a ruptured right biceps tendon. Only as a rookie did he appear in all 16 games, and he has just 17 career sacks over five seasons.
The opinion of 10,000 men is of no value if none of them know anything about the subject.
Taking Courtney Brown out to dinner? Does the meal count towards the salary cap? That's like .2 million right there!
Seriously though... I can't wait until Brown signs that contract, I am so pumped!

Hey zieggy, why don't you tell that to the Boss. I'm sure he'll lay out the rules. If you don't want to be a part of thehogs.net, then don't. Go over to the "extremeskinners"
Don't want to be too harsh...but that's how this site is structured and if you want to be a part of it, I say we listen to our "elders"
it's just that I check this site for information every day about the skins - and post when I have something to contribute. I enjoy listening to what people say, but I swear that every freakin' post on this site is followed up by some reference to some older post that someone should've recognized before posting.
This is a message board - it's where people post messages - it's not a scan-the-old-library-before-you-contribute-to-the message board. Why is it done this way? Why does it have to be what's thrown in everyone's face all the time? Why the ridgidity?
Remember this is supposed to be entertaining - listening to that is truly tiresome. If I'm not wanted here - I'm happy to walk. I'm just trying to figure out why it has to be every other post?

Read over those 1st.
2nd, mods work very hard to keep this forum maintained and trim. I visited another Skins site the other night and was lost in a sea of threads. At that moment I really was thankful for the upkeep of this forum. Our guys work hard, respect that and them. If not you can visist another forum.
I respect anyone who shows passion for something in life and follows up on it. I also understand "the rules of engagement" when working with a message board. What I don't understand is continually spanking people for contributing to the message board. They're excited, there aren't that many threads anyways - and there seem to be a lot of smack downs being handed out - but maybe that's just when I'm looking.
Please don't misunderstand my inquisitive nature (and sometimes lack of tact) as being disrespectful. I'm just used to a more open message board style and I'm trying to understand why this one's done this way.
Its definately a lot more controlled than any message board that I've ever been to but for those serious about discussing Redskin football in an enjoyable enviroment than this is the place to be. I'd gladly sacrifice the ability to post 10 threads of the same topic for a peaceful board like this.
Also its not that hard to check and see if there is a thread about your topic before you post. I don't believe the mods are asking you to check back through 2-3 pages of old threads. Just browse through the current page of the forum and if theres alreayd a thread, contribute to it. You split the posts and information by having multiple threads.
I understand where you're coming from. But, it should be pretty difficult for the moderators of this site to keep up with all these new threads. If these threads weren't combined instead of new ones made every day, it would take up more space and also be a clutter of information.
I just thought it would be nice to help them out. Just like recycling to help out the earth. It's simple, just use the "search" button and try to help this great site from being clutter free.

I got Zieggy's back on this one...and I'm sure I'll take some grief. Yes, we should avoid obvious reposts of the same article...but, in this, it's cool to be another post. We all need to lighten up.
