More on Antrell Rolle...

Post by Skinsfan55 »

I'm talking to a friend of mine today, big Miami fan... and he swears that Rolle hits just about as well as Sean Taylor.

Take that in for a second...

Rolle has absolutely shut down some of the best recievers in the college ranks, and at 6'0'' 205 pounds... there's no one too big for him to handle. Not only is this kid a great cover man, but he can blitz! We all remember Smoot blitzing and then missing the QB right? How would you like to see 205 pounds of Antrel Rolle coming in at lightning speed and leveling an opposing QB because we have Bowen and Taylor able to pick up some slack in the secondary?

For the record, I think Braylon Edwards and Mike Williams are awesome, and would love if one would drop to us, but now I am almost certain that Mike Williams will be selected by the Buccaneers.

Rolle would be another step towards making the Redskins one of the top defenses not just in the game, but in NFL history!

-----

I'm going way off the subject, but immagine:

DE- Courtney Brown (After working with Williams)
DT- Joe Salave'a (In a rotation with others)
DT- Cornelious Griffin
DE- Phillip Daniels (Perhaps also in a big of a rotation depending on situation)

SLB- Marcus Washington
MLB- Mike Barrow (I think he'll recover)
WLB- LaVar Arrington (Fully healthy)

CB- Shawn Springs
CB- Antrell Rolle

FS- Sean Taylor
SS- Matt Bowen

I mean, sure, seeing Pinkston, Mitchell and TO shy away from big hits from Taylor was great... with thgat we'd have everyone in the league shaking in their boots... even tailbacks wouldn't be able to breathe under this punishing defense... We could win on 6 points a game!!!

Anyway, I just think it would be great to have another guy back there with the killer instinct!

Can't argue with any of that. You have to belive the Skins are thinking the same. Take top flight WR if available, if not go CB, or DE.

I feel we need a DE more than CB given that we have Harris and several young players who I am sure one will develop. But if we are not going to trade down we have to take Rolle at 9.

None of the available DE are "sure things" or are likely to contribute immediatley. Rolle seems to be as close to "can't miss" as you can get.

A. Rolle has been my #1 pick for quite a while. IF he is not available at #9, we should trade-down.

I also do not feel that the top two recivers will remain available in the draft at #9.

i like that scenario as well, but I would give Ryan Clark the nod over Bowen for a couple of reasons.

Clark played very, very well last year.
He has continutity with the Secondary and after losing Smoot, it would be too much turnover in the secondary.

I do like Bowen, but his knee has to be 100 percent

I feel you chico, that is true, but I like Ryan Clark over Matt Bowen. I said it earlier, but Clark played very very well, and losing Smoot, and then benching Clark for Bowen coming off a torn knee might disrupt some continuity in the secondary, but I do feel your post

Continuity?

We play the best players and build chemistry in camp... we shouldn't play a possibly inferior player just because it might disrupt the secondary

Bowen was the better player before his injury and will be the better player coming out of training camp. Clark will provide good depth

Rolle

Image
Sean Taylor (left) and Rolle (middle) crush a dude

He is a big dude.

i still don't think that Greg Williams defense requires an elite corner back....but it wouldn't hurt. Afterall, Williams didn't need an elite safety but we went out and got Sean Taylor.

Rolle will probably be gone before #9..the Browns and Titans may take him.

Looks like Rolle and Sean Taylor have a lot in common:
7/12/04 - University of Miami football player Antrel Rolle is out on bond following an arrest this weekend on charges including battery on a law enforcement officer.

The Hurricanes' star cornerback -- whose father is Homestead police chief Al Rolle -- was arrested by City of Miami police Sunday, according to Miami-Dade Circuit Court records.

Rolle, 22, was taken into custody and charged with disorderly conduct and breach of the peace, and resisting an officer without violence, both misdemeanors.

Rolle also was charged with felony battery on a law enforcement officer.

Details of the arrest were not available late Monday, a Miami police department spokeswoman said.

Ummm Courtney Brown is "tender ronni"...But if Antrel Rolle...plays the game anything near Swoop...then I hope Redskins would be able to steal him in draft.
"It's almost like, you play a kid's game for a king's ransom," he said. "And if you don't take it serious enough, eventually one day you're going to say, 'Oh, I could have done this, I could have done that."

How can you say Bowen is 'the better player'? Bowen had 94 tackles last year, 73 solo in 16 games, solid for a Strong Safety, but Clark duplicated those numbers in only 11 games this season...Bowen is markedly slower than Clark too.

I don't think Bowen is the clear starter going into TC, even before he was injured, he was averaging 5 tackles/game. Clark is averaging 9..so who's the backup?

Tackles as a stat can be misleading, especially for a safety. You've got to take into account where on the field the play was, where it was in regards to the line of scrimmage, what kind of play it was, what the rest of the defense was doing ...

Does anyone have any idea what kind of person Rolle is? Is he a Gibbs character guy?

I would suggest you re-read oafusp's post, particularly the quote at the bottom. Character certainly needs to be a consideration before drafting a player.

So Rolle's father is a policeman. Well, if memory serves me correctly, so is Sean Taylor's father. We better do our due diligence on this guy. There are at least 2-3 other CBs that are on a par with Rolle so if there is a character problem, Gibbs will have some flexibilty in the draft.

Did you guys see Rolle's first draft today on Total Access? I'm starting to like this guy more and more.

He's solid, physical, tough, and smart (in a football point of view)

If Mike Williams is not there at #9, I would like to get Antrell Rolle.

Would you like fries with that??

Just kidding. Just sounded like you were placing an order. I think we will be drafting an offensive guy at #9.

sure, but could you make those Kingsize?

But Antrell had a one on one interview with Rich Eisen today on Total Access.

He was very confident and somewhat cokcky, but which Miami player isnt?

Every time I see him i want him more and more.

And in the words of Rich Eisen,
"You know he's butter, when he's Antrell Rolle"
