Redskins | Interested in Saints' Howard - from www.KFFL.com Sat, 12 Mar 2005 10:58:19 -0800
Jeff Duncan, of the New Orleans Times-Picayune, reports the Washington Redskins have engaged in trade talks with the New Orleans Saints about acquiring DE Darren Howard. Several other NFL teams have also expressed interest in acquiring Howard, the Saints' franchise player. The Saints are seeking a first-round draft pick or a starting defensive player in return for Howard.
While Dallas is considered the front-runner, Miami, Minnesota, Seattle, Washington and at least two other teams have engaged in trade talks with Saints officials in the past week. Oakland and Kansas City also have been mentioned as possible suitors, but an NFL source said Friday that neither is a candidate at this time.
Hmmm... what could we offer them? Barrow? Bowen? Would we really trade our first rounder for him?
Hmmmm...
"Guess [Ryan Kerrigan] really does have a good motor. And is relentless. And never quits on a play. And just keeps coming. And probably eats Wheaties and drinks Apple Pie smoothies and shaves with Valvoline." -Dan Steinberg DC Sports Bog
I don't know if I'd be willing to give up a starter on D or a first round pick to further improve upon a defense that was in the Top Three last year.
Signing a DE does not offset the loss of the MLB or CB.
"Sit back and watch the Redskins.
SOMETHING MAGICAL IS ABOUT TO BEGIN!"

we can do it, we have some cap room but, yeah he will be looking for alot of money. I think he would be a good pick up, he may take less money to play with the number 3 D but most likly not
Courtney Brown is expensive too...he was a the Number 1 overall draft pick of 2000. Besides, he only has 17 sacks in 5 seasons, and has torn a ligament in his knee.
I think Boss Hog said this on another thread... Courtney Brown must have a great deal of bonus money as his salary because of restructures... and Bonus money gets accelerated when a player's traded... we wouldn't pay any of that.
Besides, they would be releasing him soon anyway, we could get Courtney Brown for pretty cheap by dealing Gardner and then signing him to a pretty reasonable deal based on past performance.
It would be great to get another big talent for Williams to work with.

I don't think we'll get him, he'll probably end up a Viking.

Daniel Snyder has defined incompetence, failure and greed to true Washington Redskins fans for over a decade and a half. Stay away from football operations !!!
They were together at Penn State. Each one had a lot of respect for the other. They are still friends.
I like C. Brown. He 's had some real bad luck.

We wouldn't have to pay his bonus this year, but he's in the last year of his rookie contract. If he plays well, which we hope he would, he would command big money next year so pick your poison. I don't think 17 sacks in 5 years is worth it IMO.

I wouldn't consider Courtney Brown a big talent...
Salvae is and noble are just fine... forget Court"knee" Brown.. that guy is a bonafide bust...
Rod Gardner will be part of a package on draft day...

He's not a bust at all. He's been a monster when healthy. If anything, you can say he's injury prone. That I will grant you, but as somebody else mentioned, Phil Simms was injury prone his first 5 seasons as well. Brown would be a great to pick up on a low contract with high(unlikely to receive) incentiives. That way we don't overpay and he gets what he earns. Hopefully he would earn a lot
Edgerin James is okay... but we're all set with Samuels and Jansen!!
-Brown is a defensive end, Salave'a and Noble are defensive tackles...
