I think that if we hold on to gardner it would not be such a bad idea. I dont think we will trade him if the value is not there and gardner would certainly help us more in the short term then say a 3rd round pick. He also will have a seconfd year in Gibbs offense which may prove to be what he needs to turn the corner. Either way it couldnt hurt to keep him for the final year of his contract.

This is pretty much what Gibbs said after the Coles-Moss trade first fell apart. Gibbs is telling the market: "Don't low ball us with a low draft pick". My view is Gardner will be gone no later than after the draft. He'd make good trade bait on Draft Day.

I've never been as down on Gardner as others have been.

That said, I take issue with your post in two respects. First, I don't know that Gardner's more valuable to the Redskins than a third-round pick. A fourth, maybe, but if someone offers a third-rounder, I'd say he's gone.

Also, don't forget Coles' comments in Sports Illustrated that he and Gardner used to listen to Gibbs' game plans and shake their heads. At this point I don't attach much credibility to anything Coles tells me, but if he's right and Gardner is also a malcontent, Gibbs will ship him out regardless of the consequences. I think that's been vividly demonstrated this week.

I'm sorry, but we do need to move him and get the most we can for him.

If they feel they need more receivers fine but 50/50 is going to bring us another player. End of story!
Let him be super good somewhere else we need to get as high a choice as possible.

I don't think Gardner on the field with Moss/Patten is such a bad thing. We shouldn't just give him away.

No i haven't either and the only pick i think that would be worth trading him for is a 2nd rounder and i doubt we'll get that. If we do great if not lets bring him back especially with the injury factor with moss. All this i keep hearing about malcontent would be remedied by winning. Any one would be upset if the team that drafted him has stunk every year they were a part of it.

No, but the coach must be doing this for a reason. He knows better than we do and I think that his agenda does not include this former 1st round pick. There must be a very good reason to do this.

I agree with you that 50/50 looks and should be a good receiver and if JG is looking to move him then there is something to that.

I also do not think that JG will let him go for anything that he feels is not a "good & fair "price".

All im saying is we have the quarterback situation squared away (we hope) and we have what should be a formidable o-line. A guy like gardner could be a factor in this sytem where the average reciever we have is about 5'10.

And it doesn't seem that he wants be here anymore either (from what Coles has been saying). A big receiver with marginal speed (deceptive speed, if you want to be generous) is an asset if they use their physique and catch everything that comes their way. Gardner has been here long enough to show that he won't be the player we need. Take what you can get in a trade, and spend it on someone who might be able to help us.

If we trade Gardner, it's for a draft pick, only. A player will cost us too much cap space. Snyder has the money, he just doesn't have the cap space for a veteran player who wants bucks -- if we did, we would have signed Smoot.

Gardner will have more value after Burress is signed...there won't be much left in the FA market at that point.

check out these quotes from a real General Manager, Ron Wolf; in an article about the packers losing a lot of their players to free agency this year...

Gardner is gone one way or another...

Gibbs said he good seek a trade it's hard to bring that player back with just 1 year left on his contract.

Gibbs never dressed more than 5 WRs most games last year and we have Patten-Moss-McCants-Jacobs-Thrash-Brown and Gardner.
Taking Rod of that list also removes $2M off this years cap, that may be why Gibbs is only looking for a 3rd or 4th round pick. There are a few teams interested so a bidding war might be higher.

Plax being on the market this long may be improving Gardner's value. He wants way more than he is worth, and will chemistry problem nomatter where he lands. With Gardner being the next best thing he is starting to look better.

Btw, A scenereo that might work out is us trading gardner to move up in the draft, since he's worth about a 2nd or third pick, and that's what it costs to move up a few spots in the NFL Draft. Plus teams might be more willing to trade down this year knowing they're getting a proven starting receiver.

I say we trade him to cleveland or tampa and move up to their spots in the draft.
