5 early things i think so far in the offseason...

Post by tokyoskins »

1) it was very disappointing to see Smoot choose an extra $500,000 or so on a $10.5 mill bonus (less than 5%) rather than resign with the skins. but he got his justice. hey fred, how does it feel knowing that anthony henry and ken lucas got just as much and more than you! i'm sure if you polled 32 GMs, 30 of them would have said smoot was better than these 2.

2) i love the patten and moss signings. we get 2 guys who actually want to be here and are not known as prima donnas.
say goodbye to morton. moss and brown can return punts, and thrash and betts kickoffs. how much of a cap hit or space would we get by cutting him?

3) the winners so far in FA are teams we will be playing this yr. the consensus seems to be that the raiders, cowboys, giants, and cardinals are the early winners so far.
the nfc overall seems to have done better than the afc which might make it tougher for the wild card spots.

4) i again bring up my previous question from a prior post: is a 4-4-3 formation so outrageous on 1st and 2nd down? who would you rather have up in the box...matt bowen or derrick johnson or shawn merriman? move marcus inside with barrow/lemar, and have merriman and lavar on the outside. i have never played or coached football but it seems to me that the LBs run stopping skills are just as good as bowen, ditto with covering a TE or a back, or just rushing the passer. the grim reaper in the back makes things so much easier for the D!!

5) with teams likely to test walt harris and our nickelbacks, perhaps we need a better pass rush to hurry the throws rather than draft antrel or pac man? the shaun cody kid seems interesting, and erasmus as well. perhaps trade out of our spot and somehow miraculously be able to get both david pollack and matt roth? all indications are that these 2 guys are the hardest workers in the draft. i'll take effort and dedication over ability any day of the week.

I think Smoot is also guaranteed a yearly salary of like $6 million for the next three years. That's a big difference from what the Skins offered, isn't it?

Not resigning Smoot is by far the most disappointing thing about this offseason. I'm putting my trust in Gregg Williams on this one though.

Smoot won't be missed. He was never our #1 CB, after Chump left Springs came in and took over. I'll enjoy watching him get burnt left and right like Chump did.

He's not a skin anymore so I could careless.

The exception is Antonio, I still like him.

ARG!!

4. Are you serious about a 4-4-3 formation? In that thinking who's covering the TE? A LB? Who's helping out deep? A lone safety? I think any team in that formation would be play-actioned to DEATH.

5. What we want, is not effort and dedication over talent. It's talent PLUS effot PLUS dedication. Why do we think the trio is mutually exclusive?

dont we normally have lavar cover shockey? do you want bowen covering shockey or lavar or marcus? let them play action. the 2 inside LBs would be in the backfield quicker than you can "holy cow!"

as for #5, obviosuly, that triple combo is ideal but i`m hearing that spears might go 1st overall to niners and there have been questions about his effort and dedication to the game whereas there are zero questions about pollack and roth...thats all.

whats all this talk about smoot not being missed. Hey, he was a good guy on our team. He was fun to watch even when he messed up b/c you knew he would end up doing something big like an open field tackle in the backfield on a RB. He will be missed. By a lot of us. Yeah, we will find someone to take his place but i would prefer to have him on our team.

I'll miss his occasional big play..I did feel that his hitting had improved this passed season. I'm with you though, I'll definitely relish his ass getting beat every Sunday.

What you gonna do 'bout that avatar Chris?

5 things to think about early!!

I think it's too early to worry!

I think it's too early to "see" anything!

I think it's too early to really miss a player from last year!

I think it's too early to say who will be on our team!

I think it's too early to say we're going to the playoffs!

Maybe tomorrow things will be a lot clearer!
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)
