Great "Core" quote

Post by ArmyHog »

How true is this?

This is the world Joe Gibbs has walked back into. A world in which a player can be a "core Redskin" one day and a New York Giant the next -- all because of a few lousy dollars. A world in which another "core Redskin" can catch 90 passes, not be particularly pleased about it, and gripe his way into a trade to the New York Jets (for whom he was previously a "core Jet" before jumping to the Redskins). It's enough to make you wonder if the whole business isn't, well, rotten to the core.

Well...it's hard to argue with that, isn't it ?
You'd be hard-pressed to find a guy who didn't think either of these players was a "core" guy.
To tell you the truth, I'm getting a little sick and tired of that word.

In todays game or any sport there are no loyalties anymore. It's all about the dollars, that's the only thing that matters, not what HOF coach you play for, what color you wear, none of that, the only color they play for is green.

TC you and I are in complete agreement. I AM SICK of that term. Pierce, who was supposed to be c***, is gone. Smoot, was supposed to be c***, is on his way out of the door, because the other c*** guy coles, whined his way back to the jets and screwed up the skins cap. can we just ban that word and allow it only be used in the smack forum?? this offseason is completely rotten to the c***.

sorry for the bad joke.

That is a great qoute, but I still believe in some places you can find core guys with loyalty to their team. Take the New England Patriots, a lot of their guys in the last few years have signed smaller contracts so that they could stay with the team, rather than sign elsewhere for more money. We can't overlook some of the players on our team who did the same. I think labeling Pierce as "core," is ridichulous. As I stated in a previous post:

"Also, lets stop calling Pierce a "core" player. He had one good year, and then leaves the team that gave him a chance for more money. He should have taken a look around, and see what Samuels, Jansen, Ramsey, etc. were doing to keep this team together. I read that the skins offered him pretty much the same contract almost, just that the signing bonus came in about $3 million less than the Giants offer. If that is the case, then he definately is just a player for the money. So, let him go. I believe the players on this team buy into Gibbs system, and see good things to come. If Spurrier, or any other coach were still here, I am not sure how many of those players still renegotiate their contracts to free up more space."

Those are my feelings on Pierce. He is a sell-out in my mind. Also, regarding the cap situation, this organization is quite reputable, and they are all professionals. I do not believe that any of them would do anything that would completely screw the team, even if a player was whining or wanted more money. I believe coming in to this off season they had a plan and are sticking to it, and they will do what they can to stick with that plan. I don't think b/c of one player complaining mostly within the organization, they would throw away their chance this year or any other year to sign FA and draft picks. So, I personally say we need to get off Snyder and Gibbs back, and let them work. Lets see where we go from here. And if at the end of the season, we are in a worst position, then maybe we can jump on them and say that was a terrible decision to trade Coles and let pierce go, but first, let's let the season play out.

i think every team can only really afford to have 2 or 3 players MAX on each side of the ball as "core"
guys. i would say that on the redskins, there are probably only 2 or 3 that are already established:

*lavar arrington
*chris samuels
*john jansen

i think ramsey and portis may establish themselves this year- though i don't know if i believe a RB can ever really be a core guy... at least for long. it seems like they slow down pretty quickly and there's always plenty of fresh talent coming out of college. take indy for example- manning and harrison are definitely core guys (can you imagine either of them EVER going to another team, unless it was in the twilight of their careers?). but edgerin james may be departing this year, despite being a part of "The Triplets".

obviously there are some other people on the skins that may be able to establish themselves as core guys. but i guess my point is there are only a few people that i can't imagine being on another team. to me, that is what being a "core" guy is about, i suppose.

I'm glad someone finally criticized that "c" word. Its gotten way outta hand, just like "shut down corner".

Joe Gibbs is the ONLY core Redskin in this organization.

What the hell does that term mean to the rest of the team? Hey, guys, you're on the team, but you didn't quite make the "cor*".
SPIT HAPPENS!!
