Patrick Ramsey

Post by Tug_72 »

Is Ramsey the next QB for the Skins to hold up the Lombardi Trophy?

I think so. He played very well last season, especially towards the end of the year. He has a solid RB in Portis, (and now a good O Line to help), he has some new receivers, a good HB in Cooley, and a very, very strong defense. I think this is Ramsey's year to shine. He'll go into all of the minicamps and practices, Training Camp, and Preseason as the starter. I've always thought Ramsey could be good, and now he'll show off his stuff.

GO SKINS!!!

I think Ramsey will be a solid QB if given the time. Gibbs will give it to him, so if he can stay healthy he should progress nicely. I can't wait to see him throw the deep ball to Moss and Patten!!

I personally, do believe that Ramsey will develop into the QB that we all hope he does. He has great talent, and just needs time, and I believe that will come by this year. The last few years, the guys has been jerked around. Went from playing a few games, to being the starter in the "fun-n-gun-get-sacked-every-other-play" offense, which could tear apart any QB's hopes and drive to play the game, but instead he stayed in there, took the hits, got back up, and into the huddle. Then, just when he thought he was going to be the true starter, the organization signs a washed-up QB for a ton of money, and lost the job to him in spring training, for the mere fact that Boonell had more experience and as a result of that could learn an NFL system quicker than a young Ramsey. Finally, he got his shot again, but that came with really no practice with the #1 offense, so it was going to take time to get used to their timing/route running, etc. It was the same way in college, it took him a year or to to get the system, and improved his stats every year. I think with this offseason, and the signing of both Moss and Patten, tru deep threats, and two players that want to be here, not just to play, but I think to prove to their old teams that they lost something good, that they will all take the time to learn the system together.

Another important point, of course is the improvement in the O-Line, which will not just give Ramsey more time to stay in the pocket and let plays develop, but will also open more holes, create better lanes, and "tie-up" the D-Lines of other teams to allow Portis to run up the middle or to the outside and show his speed and elusiveness.

Also, over the next few years, which I believe he has already proven, but I believe Chris Cooley will prove to the rest of the league what a "sleeper" he was in the draft. The Redskins took him because they saw something positive in him, and I think a lot of Redskins fans underestimate this guy. He plays with both his head and his heart. As he continues to develop and learn the offensive system even more, I think he will just continue to improve. I have seen several times Gibbs mentioned after the year that he regrets not utilizing Cooley more, and giving him more looks. He caught almost every thing thrown his way, and after he catches the ball, he makes things happen, whether it was running over defenders or making them miss. This guy led our team in TD's last year, and he is anxious for more.

So, back to the original statement, I do believe Ramsey is the QB for the future of this team. Any guy that gets sacked 30 times in 11 games and still wants to play every down, shows heart and commitment, and I think Gibbs realizes that, and wants him to stick around. They made the move to bring in a new QB coach to help out, and I think we will all see a new & improved Ramsey this year. So, that is my two cents.

Last season Ramsey really made progress under Gibbs' "conservative" system. I think that was a great way to bring him along. You could see that Gibbs was helping him to improve his weaknesses.

First of all, his mobility and awareness in the pocket really took a huge step forward. For once he started to avoid sacks rather than walking into them.

He also stopped hanging onto the ball so long. I think that the little hitch passes really got his rhythm going and got him into the habit of getting the ball out on time.

Finally, he made better throws. He still threw a couple costly interceptions but in general he avoided making bad throws and forcing the issue.

You can see the improvement in his numbers alone. Over his last five games he completed more than 68% percent of his passes. In four of those five he completed over 65% and in the fifth, against a Philly secondary that sent three players to the Pro Bowl, he completed 64.4%! In three of his last five he also had a passer rating over 100!

His game is certainly progressing and he is becoming a more well rounded player. It seems like this year, with the additions of Patten and Moss, he will also have more of a chance to unleash his cannon of an arm which is clearly his best weapon. Ramsey's improvement was really the highlight of last season for me. I think Gibbs is doing a masterful job bringing him along. He is developing into a nice player. I can't wait until he has had a full offseason to work on the playbook and learn it inside and out.

very optomistic here. the guy is a class act. and very smart. wish him and us the best. would love to see it. he just has to do a couple things better, and i'm sure gibbs is working on that with him as we speak.

that said, ramsey is still my favorite player right now. go pat.
