ASHBURN, Va. (AP) -- The Washington Redskins finally traded disgruntled receiver Laveranues Coles back to the New York Jets and got the speedy Santana Moss in return, a source within the league said Saturday.

The source, who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity, said the deal was contingent on both players passing physicals. Moss had his physical scheduled for Monday at Redskins Park. The source also said Coles got the new deal he wanted, which held up the trade for the last week.

Terms of the deal weren't available.

Coles met with coach Joe Gibbs twice after the season to state his desire to leave the Redskins, following an unsatisfying year in the conservative offense.

He had 90 catches for 950 yards for a career-low 10.6 yards a catch and only one touchdown in the Redskins' 6-10 season. The year before, under pass-oriented coach Steve Spurrier, Coles had 82 receptions for 1,204 yards and six touchdowns.

Coles emerged as a favorite of Chad Pennington in 2002, but left the Jets as a restricted free agent after the season, when the team declined to match the Redskins' seven-year, $35 million offer -- including a $13 million bonus. He was critical of the Jets and coach Herman Edwards after he left, though it appears the organization is willing to look past that.

As for Moss, the game-breaking receiver had a breakout year in 2003, with 1,105 yards and 10 touchdowns. But his productivity slipped in 2004, when he had 45 catches for 838 yards and five touchdowns while battling through a sore hamstring. He also was critical of his role in the Jets' conservative offense, wondering why he didn't get the ball more.

One area of concern for the Jets could be a chronic toe injury that has plagued Coles the last two seasons. The Redskins wanted him to have surgery, but Coles was reluctant to undergo any procedure. If he is healthy, Coles provides the Jets with a solid receiver under new coordinator Mike Heimerdinger to go with Justin McCareins.

I think the Jets made out unless we got something else included. All they said was the deal was done. I also am curious if he is going to give part of the $ back.

... anyone less interested in half-truths report it yet?

where's the article from, i didn't see it at ESPN.com.

Not doubting it... just don't believe anything Pasquarelli has to say about the Skins.

I just can't understand this trade if I'm Washington.

Couldn't they have gotten more? :?

And if i lived in the US, I may very well be able to just 'turn on the news' and see.

So like i said... anyone other than the same ESPN that reported Rolle was a done deal confirm it yet?

Yeah but how notorious is ESPN.com for being slow?

Well, this is actually on ESPNews as we speak Boss.

I see it as Breaking News. The Rolle thing didn't fall under that category.

It's done.

I see your point. I wouldn't post unless i verified it.

I understand the concern, but PFL is far from reliable.

This is definetly one of those deals where we will see in one year who really got the better deal. Right now I would have to say that the Jets are getting the better player, but the Skins are able to get rid of a disgruntled and expensive player who wasn't living up to his billing. Moss will be much cheaper and could easily be as effective for us. He doesn't have the heart of Coles however. I will miss his toughness and the way he put everything that he had into every play.

The telling factor for me will be what happens with Moss' contract. Will he demand a new deal or not. Will he end up a free agent next year?

I'm not sure how I feel about this trade. I was hoping we would be able to trade LC for a draft choice.

I do love the idea of having a super return man tho.

Everything Moss has said over the past year and a half points to him wanting a new deal. And he's gonna want top dollar too.

I think Moss will definitely want big bucks at the end of this year.

But if we end up with Moss for one season and then he walks arent we still getting more in return than if we had just cut Coles.

....I'm just trying to justify this trade any way I can here guys.... someone help me out.

That's why he got traded. He is too small and isn't a Legit #1 WR and he is going to expect to be paid like one.

I would say that we DID get faster with Moss. Coles was very fast but with his toe injury the quickness just isnt there like it used to be.

We're going to get hit with 9mil against this yearscap and next year, if he's giving $ back, we'll get a credit to our cap. I think i explained it correctly for BossHog
