Marshall/Pierce/Smoot updates

Post by ArmyHog »

From the Washington Times....

The Washington Redskins aren't going to pursue any high-end inside linebackers to replace departed free agent Antonio Pierce. Instead, Washington's new man in the middle is Lemar Marshall, who performed admirably in place of injured LaVar Arrington on the weak side last year.

I think this will work out for us. This also may send a sign that Barrow will be gone.

Pierce said he is delighted to be a Giant.
"I couldn't be in a better place to make a bigger name for myself," said Pierce, who made the Redskins as an undrafted rookie in 2001

So much for being a "Core Redskin".

Here is another interesting piece from the article....

Although coach Joe Gibbs said the Redskins couldn't meet Pierce's contract demands, a club source said Washington matched almost all of the Giants' six-year, $26 million deal, including a $6.5 million signing bonus, but offered less during the first two years.

I guess Pierce thought the grass was greener on the other side. Now I want to beat the Giants even more.

And about Smoot.....
Not only do the Redskins apparently have no plans to pursue such available inside linebackers as Pittsburgh's Kendrell Bell and Baltimore's Ed Hartwell, they don't plan to increase their standing $10 million bonus offer to Fred Smoot, leaving it up to the cornerback to find a better deal from Kansas City or another suitor and then decide if he'll return to Washington.

I thought about that, but they were all covered in this one article.

I hope I did not step on any toes

This quote makes me sick. He's such a hyprocrite. He said the same thing just before he left here.

And he already DID make a name for himself, obviously.

Antonio, say what you mean and mean what you say.

No pinched toes, and no confusion. As said above, it helps to have the info in one place. Right now, there is just so much going on...

Cut him some slack, Jake. When we signed Washington last year from Indy (a team that really didn't want to lose him, it just didn't work out financially)...You never heard him say "I wish I could still be in Indy...but I'm here because they gave me more money"...of course not...He's moving on and he said nothing other than what he had to say...

I hope the Giants get used to this...sounds like his ego is huge now.

I just hope that Pierce was a product of Greg Williams system.

i don't think that pierce said anything wrong... everyone talks like that when they have their press conference for their new team...

i don't feel bitterness towards pierce... but he's going to turn out just like trotter... he's never gonna put up those number outside of the system...

It must be a clause in their new contracts to say stuff like that. Everyone does. Pierce is still okay in my book. He's earned every right to earn the big payday, DESPITE having had a different coordinator every year.

Who would have thought that a professional athlete could improve under such a scenario. That never happens in Washington!!

Why boo Coles? He played his heart out last year amidst his fingers and toes issues. He has told teammates if he stays in Washington he'll play hard, and i believe him. He just doesn't like the Gibbs' offense.

With the revamped O-line, Coles will be just fine and happy. That Y/C will be closer to 18-20 this year with Patten in the mix.

I won't boo him if he stays....only if he goes. If he goes, it will be at his request and to the detriment of the team.
