ROB MORRIS

Post by VASkin27 »

I didn't realize this until just a while ago, but Colts MLB Rob Morris is a free agent. Since there is no true MLB in the draft as proven as Morris, why not take a shot? We don't need to throw a 12 mil signing bonus at his feet, and he is a veteran with much accolade. IMO he would be a quick solve for our LB problem.

Yuck...no way. We already got Indy's best LB.
Morris has been going down hill the past years (stats).

How about this:

1. Kendrell Bell
2. Ed Hartwell
3. Mike Barrow is under contract already

If we could get Ed Hartwell, I wouldn't be too unhappy. Thats if and only if Peirce leaves. Im not too sold on Lemar being able to step up. I don't think Barrow is going to pull through for us. This one are where we may need to pick up a FA.

I'd definately take Ed if we needed to.

Easy Ed is going to get a lucrative contract, which we shouldn't even think about dishing out until we've re-signed Smooty and added a legitimate receiver and or defensive end.

I think all 3 of those guys are going to get more money than we can pay if we intend on signing a big name dlineman or receiver or corner. Morris should come relatively cheap.

"You get what you pay for"

Rob Morris has only been in the league 5 years...3 years ago he had 100+ tackles...then down to 80, then down to 70 something...that means he is missing a few here, and a few there.

He could work, but the decline is a red flag. You'd rather have a guy that is up and coming (Pierce)...or someone who is consistent...there is an obvious decline in production for Morris.

I'm not much for adding someone whose tackle totals have declined for three strait years. Making the right move is about finding that diamond in the rough, and a lot of times getting lucky. There's got to be someone out there waiting for a chance to start like AP was last summer.

I say lets Resign Pierce, Smoot, and pick up a guy in FA, and trade Barrow.

You cant judge him based on his tackles alone, it's not like Indy had a good DLine, and when your MLB is shedding blocks b/c DLmen aren't filling up gaps, and are getting blown off the ball. Then yes your tackle totals will most likely decrease. We have had our share of MLBer's who's stats didn't reflect there play do to a crappy DL. Morris would not be bad a pick up, he is young, can tackle, and would probably do really well in our system. But there are other MLB's out there that I think would also be nice additions - Claiborne - Minn, Bell - Pitt, Johnson - Oak, Fields - Car, and we still have Barrow ? should be healthy next year ? and there is some good talent in the draft that can be aquired in the later rounds. I'm confident that greg will make the right decision / choice. Not to worry if pierce doesn't sign his loss.

Maybe we look at the draft instead of free agents. This is from ESPN.com "Texas OLB Derrick Johnson was the "real deal" with one of the most impressive linebacker workouts in years, including a 4.54 in the 40-yard dash". They compare him to Brian Urlacher. He has moved up into the top 10 and may be the first defense player taken. This could be our replacement.

We won't sign him because he'll ask to much....
