2004 draft..Sean Taylor

Post by Guest »

In my humble opinion it Sean Taylor (Safety/Maimi)
is there we have to snag him. We are in desperate need of a hard-hitting enforcer in the defensive backfield.

Most experts predict Taylor to be the best safety in the league somewhere in his 2nd - 3rd year.

I look forward to drafting him, too. I've read that he could be the next Ronnie Lott. I don't believe it but if he comes close, I'll be happy.

Ronnie Lott was a good hitter...

... Taylor can cover too!

He's a lot like Roy Williams of the Pukes.

I would like Taylor too... but only if we have already addressed the d-line with at LEAST one player come draft day.
Sean Taylor was one of a kind, may he rest in peace.

We can take Taylor with the 1st pick and P/U Randy Starks with either our 2nd or 3rd pick depending on how far he falls on the draft board. I think in a perfect world the order goes like this:

1. Sean Taylor
2. Ben Troupe
3. Randy Starks

Etc... After thinking about this for awhile I feel we can make do with our current RB's and should not use any of our limited cap room for this. Any thoughts?

Can you imagine Champ, Smoot and Taylor all roaming the secondary? And Matt Bowen will be back there too! Scary...

I also think we can get by with the RBs we have now. At least until we get a better feel for what they can do in a normal system. And you all know that Spurrier's system was not the best judge for RB talent.

Worse yet for other teams is that secondary with the main job of pass coverage, not run support...

I still say trade down, get Starks (who many draft scouts say is going to be the #1 DT after the combine) with say the 10th pick, picking up a couple more picks, trade Bailey for a first rounder, get one of the top 3-4 backs like Greg Jones or Steve Jackson then Troupe with the #5 pick in the second round if he is still there

Hey great site!
I'm hoping for Taylor. As much as I hate the cowboys, Roy Williams is unreal. If Taylor can make that kind of impact he's the guy. Then in FA and the second round we get that d-line fearsome. Boo Williams for tight end, too. RB? In Gibbs I trust.

I heard that Starks was at best an early second round pick. That's why Ralph told him he should stay for his senior year. #10 pick sounds a little high for someone who has gotten really no press coverage. This guy is not on too many peoples radar. But you are right...if he kicks ass at the combine that all can change.

Trust me - if he lives up to what I have read about him in the strength, speed and accel department, along with the fact that he is supposed to be a guy who works all year round to improve he will show up at the combine.

There are a lot of experts who have him going anywhere from pick 12-29.

I don't see us grabbing Taylor when the safety spot isn't horrible with the Skins, just not good. The line, though, sucked. If I had walked towards that defensive line with no blockers in front of me I MIGHT have gotten tackled this past year. It was rather dreadful.

Did you see the PFW mock draft yesterday on ESPN? They predicted the 'skins would take KELLEN WINSLOW JR at TE. Basically because we need a tight end and because Snyder loves the big name players.

Not who I would have guessed, but its an interesting idea. I think that first pick is going to say alot about the Gibbs/Snyder era Redskins. We'll see...

First of all I hope Matt Bowen moves to Dallas this offseason. He was terrible. He got beat every time they threw over the middle and can't tackle. He's the most overrated player on this team and I hate him. bring back sam shade. Hell Ohalete is better.

Secondly I hope champ goes somewhere else too

Third and finally the runningbacks we have will do to have a winning season in order to get somewhere that matters like the playoffs or the big game we are gonna need a fresh big name back like Greg JOnes or Kevin Jones.

I'm so glad your one of the only people i've heard say that Matt Bowen is some garbage. Boy, does he suck or what? I wouldn't mind if he played second string safety for us, but theres no way I want him to be the starter.

you know who else plays the cover 2? Dungy and the Colts, which I hate to see - you know how their defense looked like swiss cheese versus the Cheifs? That is one big reason...

I can't tell you why - it is an attitude I believe. People are so scared to get beaten by the one deep pass that they play 7 in coverage. It scares the crap out of me to have a coach come in and say "We aren't going to allow any big plays" because every coach we have had that has said that has played this or other similar schemes.

I like the stop the run and scare the spine out of the QB defenses better - yeah, you might get beaten, but it ain't likely. I love watching the SB reruns from NFL films - you think about how many sacks we got on Elway and Kelly... sheesh... you know they needed morphine drips.. and that was with Kaufman, Coleman, Olkewicz and Gouveia playing linebacker... can you imagine with these three speedy LBs and 4 good defensive linemen? Not just fill ins, but guys who can put pressure themselves and open blitz lanes?

Salivating for the next season - this is gonna be the longest Jan/Feb ever in my football loving history...

no doubt. offseasons are usually loooooooooong, but this one is already really looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong, we haven't even seen the SB, and were already ready for the draft.

CHECK IT OUT WE TAKE TAYLOR

PICK UP KINNEY, VET DT Sam Adams and snag Barlow the same way we jacked Coles ...and instead of Kearse we get that guy in Miami ...Adewale Ogunleye
...75 tackles and 15 SACKS in 2003...and a unrestricted free agent in 2004....
check him out:

actually, Ogunleye is an RFA I believe - I couldn't see anything listing free agents on that site...

We would have to give up a pick for both Barlow and Ogunleye if the teams they are on protect them with tenders - and if they tender high enough it will be a first rounder... that kills the idea of Taylor

Not only is Ogunleye a FA, he might not even be that good. I hear sports analysts all the time saying that Ogunleye has speed and good strength, but one of the reasons for his amazing success this season is because of Jason Taylor drawing double teams on his opposite side, and those two meaty tackles in the middle.
