Cowboys release Coakley

Talk about the AFC, NFC, the NFL Draft, College Football... anything football that has no Washington Football Team relevance.

Cowboys release Coakley

Cowboys bid farewell to Coakley

The Cowboys have broken ties with one of the most prolific linebackers in club history.

Dexter Coakley, a third-round pick out of Appalachian State in 1997, was released Tuesday, when a restructured contract could not be worked out.

Coakley, who will turn 33 in October, was scheduled to receive a $502,000 roster bonus this week.

I had heard they were using him as trade bait...glad to see they received nothing for him.
God bless our troops and Joe Gibbs.
We'll miss you, Joe.

This does hurt me.

Dex was one of my all-time faves. Sad to see him go but his contract wasn't worth his production.

Should have been traded at the very least. :(

Unfortunately, he had a 1/2 million roster bonus due this week and the cap implications made releasing him the way to go.

It'll free about 2.5 million in cap space (2.8 -330K rule of 51). A much better fit can be found for that type of hit.

He'll be hard pressed to find a starting gig at this point in his career having lost a 1/2 step, but he'll make someone a pretty decent nickel/dime LB.
This space reserved for BTP......If he ever wins it.

 Man, that's chump change for us.
Let us all gather around and drink the Cooley-Aid of the Redskins.
