Gardner can do it

Post by Great Natale »

Lets keep Gardner for this season. I mean I am hearing we can get a fifth rounder for him!!! He is not that bad. Granted he had a bad year, but I believe he has enough talent to come back huge if things start rolling right. I just have this feeling that once traded he is going to be very good for another team. Doesn't anyone else want to give old Roddy a second chance??

I'm thinking he's had way more than enough chances. Maybe somewhere else he can be 75/25 instead of 50/50.

i was a big Gardner fan too, but we have said "He's going to have a big season" for 3 years now.

You have to face it and move on. Joe Gibbs has already said, Rod will NOT be here. They are going to trade him and if need be, release him. It is OVER (period).

I hope Gardner gets with a good team and uses this as a wakeup call. He has talent, I'd like to see him rebound in the next few seasons....as long as it is not in the NFC East.

I sort of agree with the original poster. Not that I think we should absolutely keep Gardner, but if the best we can get for him is a fifth rounder then we should just keep him. He wasn't THAT bad.

We are shopping him for hopefully a 2nd or 3rd. I doubt we're getting something as low as a 5th for him.

As much as I like him as a person, I don't want him on the roster anymore. He can't catch. His hands are horrible. It's time for him to leave.

I think if we get a 3rd or (hopefully) a 2nd we can then look at a center with that pick which is exceptionally deep this year.

This from the person who prays to Darnerien McCants on Sundays? Gardner is at least 200X better...

Does anyone else find it ironic that we picked Gardner instead of Santana Moss in the draft and now we are trying to trade Gardner while we could pick up Moss in a deal for Coles.

Darnerian and Rod are two totally different guys. Darnerian was a 6th round choice (I think?) and makes very little money. Gardner is paid starting WR money but has never really played like a good starting WR. For every great catch he makes, he drops a couple easy first down catches. he's not blazingly fast and has not shown much improvement.

The other thing people always seem to leave out when discussing draft picks for a player is the salary. IMO, Rod is not worth his salary and offers little in the way of leadership or locker room character. Therefore, if he left and we got NOTHING for him we wouldn't be worse off for it. That same money that we were paying him could easily go to a replacement receiver with similar talent. Other teams know this and they are not going to give up a 2nd round pick for Gardner when he is maybe barely worth the cap room he takes. I think we need to go in another direction (I think Gibbs agrees) and getting a draft pick of any kind would be okay.

Also, in Gibbs offense, I think Thrash or Jacobs could do at least as well as Gardner if not better over time.

Certain receivers drop passes. Rod Gardner is definitely one of them. That's why we call him 50/50. He definitely makes great catches at times. The problem is that he drops the ones he should catch. That has been killing us. Dropping passes that you should catch is one thing you can't afford to have. Once in awhile is fine. Everybody drops a ball here and there. Rod is a drive killer. He must go even if we don't get much for him.

I say let him go ONLY if we get a 2nd or 3rd round pick or a solid player in a trade. In Rod's defense he has played in several different systems, he did catch 8 TD's last year (which is pretty amazing in it self), and had to deal with very inconsistant QB's, it won't really hurt us in any way if he stay's and usually players in the final year of there contracts tend to have a huge year, we payed our dividends might as well reep some of the benefit if there is going to be any. Plus his sizes helps with the running game when we run off tackle probably one of our better run blocking WR's.
HAIL!!!!
