Coles/Moss Trade DEAD?

Contract demands hold up Moss-Coles trade

The Santana Moss for Laveranues Coles trade appears to be dead.

FOXSports.com has learned that the trade-swap of the two receivers stalled on Saturday due to concerns that Coles wants a new contract with figures the Jets aren't willing to meet. Redskins sources remain hopeful that something could change in the next few days.

The only way a trade could happen is if Coles is willing to go to the Jets under similar terms as his current contract. If talks resume, they are expected to begin Monday or Tuesday. But in the meantime, they may look to shop Coles elsewhere. Any team hoping to trade for Coles may have to agree with the receiver on a new contract, to avoid an unhappy player.

There have been reports that Coles is unhappy playing in Joe Gibbs' offense and the Redskins don't want a disgruntled player. However, the team doesn't want to release Coles and receive nothing in return.

Coles has great stock in the NFL as a tough player because he plays through pain. And when he played with the Jets, Coles was known as Chad Pennington's go-to guy.

Last season, Coles made 90 catches — averaging 10.6 yards per reception, but found the end zone only once. On the flipside, Moss tallied 838 yards receiving and five touchdowns on just 45 receptions in 2004.

I hope it is dead. Coles for Santana would be a stupid trade unless we got some good picks with the deal. If last year is any indication we'd end up giving them Coles and a 3rd pick for JUST Satana, we can't have that.

I'm a jets fan and it wud be a stupid trade. On the Jets side of it. The jets need atleast maybe a 3rd rounder and coles for moss. But if washington dosen't wanna give it up. Fine i'll take coles for moss any day. Moss is a wuss who dose'nt like getting hit over the middle unlike aggresive coles.

You're serious, right...??? In one sentence, you proclaim that the Jets should receive a 3rd rounder and Coles for Moss. Then...not even a couple of sentences later state that Moss is a "insert a poorly edited swear word of your choice here." Fact 'O the matter exists that MANY people think that Moss is an excellent #2 receiver, but a weak #1. Coles is a better decision for the #1 slot even with a banged up toe. It doesn't matter anyway, because once again, the J E T S jets jets jets don't wanna pay him what he wants. Sounds like deja vu to me.

No i said if washington dose'nt want to give a 3rd and coles for moss thats understandable. But i think it shud be like that because moss is a more speedy player than coles and thats what the jets need to fit new OC Hemidinger (sp?) offense. Thats why we chould get a 3rd and coles simply because coles is'nt as fast as moss. and the jets needy speed at WR

I'd be willing to bet that Coles is just as fast as Moss if not faster. Coles is arguably the fastest man in the NFL.

NYJ...you're a walking contradiction

every one of your post has you saying one thing and then the next sentence you flip flop and say the complete opposite...

if you would take the coles for santana trade anyday...then why the hell would it makes sense for us to also include our 3rd round pick? you said it yourself, coles takes big hits, goes over the middle, and santana is a "P*ssy" (how you would say)...so if anyone should get a pick included in the deal, it's us.

I really hope this trade doesn't go through unless we get picks. I bet other teams are willing to make a better offer, i say wait it out a while and see what comes to us

Because Coles is NOT willing to return ANY of his bonus if he is traded we are going to take it on the chin no matter who we trade him to OR FOR WHAT. No team is going to trade much value to the Skins for a player that wants to leave the Skins, has a two-year toe injury and is DEMANDING AN EVEN BIGGER SALARY from his new team! Santana Moss is at least SOMETHING in return. It won't make up for a 9 MIL cap hit but he could be useful.
Build through the draft!

If Coles really wanted to get out he would make consessions to help it happen. He isn't doing that, so the Skin's should just keep him. At least we would be taking the cap hit and have somebody catching the ball for us. I don't blame the Jets for not wanting to give Coles a new contract, he is going to make a boatload of money on the one he has currently signed that has several years to go on it.

I don't hold out hope that the Ravens will offer enough for a fair trade. Last year they gave a 2nd for Terrell Owens only to have the trade fall apart. I don't see them giving a 2nd for Coles. They may offer somebody like Adalius Thomas or Travis Taylor but Thomas was a FA last year and we didn't sign him and they are going to cut Taylor.

I think we ought to swallow our pride for a season and just keep Coles until he makes it a little easier to let him go. He is, after all, all signed up. I don't believe for one second that he'll go out on the field and not give it everything he's got.
To hell with it. Just keep him. I don't want Moss.
